Winter Skin Repair

I don’t know how the winter was where you live, but here in Montreal , it has been COLD. Really cold.  As in the coldest February ever recorded! And my poor sensitive skin took a beating.

So how did I repair and recover moisture in my skin?

I decided to try something new for me, a hydrating facial mask: Paula’s Choice. Skin Recovery Hydrating Treatment Mask. I’ve been using it for almost a month now, with amazing results!

PC Mask1

You can apply the treatment mask like you would with any facial mask, on clean skin, and wash it off after 20 minutes, or you can even leave it on overnight. I’ve tried it both ways, and on a particularly cold day, I used it  in place of my daily moisturizer, and my make-up didn’t slide off of my face!

Here is the product description on their website:

“Skin Recovery Hydrating Treatment Mask contains an outstanding combination of rich plant oils, essential fatty acids, and lipids that dry skin needs to repair and replenish itself. Plant- and vitamin-based antioxidants soothe and reduce inflammation that worsens signs of aging. The creamy, emollient-packed formula feels wonderfully moist on the skin. It works to instantly restore radiance and banish signs of dryness. Skin Recovery Mask has such a creamy, silky texture it can also be used as a moisturizer around the eye area and on the neck.”

And here is the ingredient list:

“Water, Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate (emollient), Butylene Glycol (slip agent), Glycerin (skin-repairing ingredient), Sorbitan Stearate (emulsifier), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (skin-repairing ingredient), Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate (emollient thickeners), Dicaprylyl Ether (emollient), Ethyl Macadamiate (macadamia nut oil/emollient), Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane (silicone/water-binding agents), Glyceryl Behenate/Eicosadioate (emollients/thickeners), Borago Officinalis (Borage) Seed Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil (all non-fragrant antioxidant plant oils), Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols (antioxidant fatty acid), Tocopheryl Acetate, Tocopherol (vitamin E/antioxidant), Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Ascorbyl Palmitate (stabilized vitamin C/antioxidants), Linoleic Acid, Phospholipids (cell-communicating ingredients), Sodium Hyaluronate (skin-repairing ingredient), Retinyl Palmitate (vitamin A/fatty acid-based antioxidant), Sodium Dilauramidoglutamide Lysine (skin-repairing ingredient), Cetearyl Glucoside (emollient), Sclerotium Gum (thickener), Hectorite (mineral-based suspending agent), Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol (preservatives)”

I really like the way that they list the ingredient and then include what the ingredient does in the formulation. As you can see, there are several plant-based oils, antioxidants, fatty acids in there.

I would highly recommend this to anyone with super dry and super sensitive skin. You can buy it on the Paula’s Choice website, it is $21 USD for a 4oz tube, and they have a 3.0ml (0.10 fl oz) sample size for $0.80 USD.

Paula’s Choice is a cruelty-free company, that is Leaping Bunny approved (which means that not only do they not test their products on animals, their ingredient suppliers also do not test on animals). All of their products are fragrance free, with no added dyes, and no skin harmful ingredients. Their website is a wonderful resource for researching not just their own products, but for other brands through their Beautypedia.

  1. I love their ingredient listing and how you shared them in your post too ^_~ My skin isn’t quite the same as yours, but this cold Detroit winter hasn’t been kind to me or my skin. I’ve been using a lot more coconut oil. I literally slather it on my face and let it absorb over a couple hours. I work from home, so I can get away with looking a little oily for a few hours. I do need to replace my moisturizer, though, so I might look into something from Paula’s Choice ^_^

    1. DelilaSophia, my skin is usually more on the normal side (not too oily, not too dry), but this winter it has gotten so dry! More and more people have been talking about coconut oil, I should really try it out! 🙂
