I’ve walked by the Bioderma display at the pharmacy for YEARS, never even glanced at it. But after reading loads of reviews for it and several other brands of micellar water, I figured that I would give it a try. Here’s the description from the Bioderma website:
Sensibio H2O is the 1st and only dermatological micellar water that is completely biologically compatible with the skin: its fatty acid esters, the constituent elements of micelles, are similar to the phospholipids of the skin cell membranes and naturally help to rebuild the skin’s hydrolipidic film, which guarantees unequalled tolerance and comfort, for optimal make-up removal efficacy.
So what exactly is micellar water? On the Beautypedia website, they explain:
Micellar involves micelles, which are a type of electrically charged particle. Micelle technology is simply one way of explaining how any detergent cleansing agent (which this product and thousands of other cleansers contain) combines with water and interacts with oils to clean any surface, including skin.
So basically, it is a lazy way to remove makeup and cleanse your skin without using water. All you have to do is put it on a cotton pad / cotton ball and swipe over your face until all of the makeup is removed.
Because I have super sensitive skin, I decided to try the Sensibio version which is specifically formulated for sensitive skin. As always, I did a patch test on my wrist and waited 24 hours before testing it on my face. Since no reaction happened on my wrist, I was ready to go.
I found that it removed most of my make-up (bb cream, powder, blush, highlighter, eyebrow pencil, and eye makeup), BUT it barely made a dent in removal of my waterproof mascara, so I had to remove that using my usual method (grapeseed oil). So while it removed the makeup, my face did not really feel clean.
Would I purchase it again? Maybe. It isn’t a holy grail item for me. But I would definitely recommend it for those who want a quick and easy method to remove makeup and clean your skin.
As far as I know, you can buy the Bioderma Micellar Water at most pharmacies. It was on sale when I purchased it, I can’t remember the exact price that I paid, but on Beautylish, a 250ml bottle costs $13.95 (USD).
Disclosure: In case you missed it just above, this product was purchased by me.
