Today I’m going to show you my new HD powder foundation from Nyx, the stay matte but not flat powder foundation. Here’s what it says on the Nyx website:
Want a matte finish to help you achieve a flawless complexion? The Stay Matte Not Flat Powder Foundation comes in a variety of gorgeous shades that provide the perfect finish to flatter all skin tones! You’ll look naturally flawless with minimal effort!
Let’s start off by taking a look at the packaging. On the back it says that the Nyx stay matte but not flat powder foundation is mineral enriched, and formulated without talc, is oil free, and water resistant.
It is available in 20 different shades, I purchased the powder in shade nude because it was the lightest shade that was in stock at the time, but porcelain or creamy natural would probably suit my skin better once my “tan” (which is not a tan by most people’s standards) fades back to my normal pinky / peachy toned pale. Out of the 20 different shades that I saw online, they looked to be mostly in the light to medium shades, with only two options for darker skin tones, and three medium deep shades. This will pose a problem for those with darker skin tones.
I’ve been wearing it over my e.l.f. BB cream, or just with moisturizer and concealer and it works great with both, providing me with a nice matte but not chalky finish.
The powder is finely milled and blends well. I’ve been using my Sephora mineral powder brush for applying, but it comes with a round sponge that you can use wet or dry, depending on the level of coverage that you need. Since I use it dry, I would describe the coverage as light, but buildable to medium if I used the sponge (dry). On the packaging it say that you can achieve full coverage using the sponge dry, and to apply with a wet / damp sponge to achieve heavy duty coverage. Personally I think that you could probably achieve a medium to full coverage with a damp sponge. So if you want a full to heavy duty coverage then this is probably not the foundation one for you.
Verdict: I really like this powder foundation as it blends well into my skin and gives a nice mattifying effect.
Disclosure: I purchased this!

It sounds good to me. I look for oil free and finely milled powder. Ever since they discontinued the maybelline dream matte powder, idk what drugstore powder to use!

So far this one is working great for me. I have no idea if it will work well for me one the weather gets cold and my skin gets dry.

True. If it doesn’t I’d just use it to set concealer instead of the entire face.

I bet this would create a flawless face on top of a tinted moisturizer or BB cream. I don’t need another powder (not for years and years, I gather) but I definitely like the look of this one!
