Concrete Minerals Swatchfest

One of my favourite cruelty-free and vegan cosmetic brands is Concrete Minerals. In my excitement about my Black Friday order, and because the lovely Gym Bag Make-Up asked me about them, I decided to show you swatches of everything that I already own from them so you can see how pigmented they are.

All are swatched over the Electric Eye Primer from Concrete Minerals. Any patchiness in the swatches are because I was using my fingers (I had just washed my brushes and they were still drying). Descriptions in italics are taken from the Concrete Minerals website.

Up first are the Mineral Eye Shadows:

Concrete Minerals Black Friday Sale!

I wasn’t planning on doing any Black Friday shopping because I’m on a low buy at the moment, but when I got an email from Concrete Minerals about their Black Weekend promo, I decided to pick up a few things as a Christmas gift to myself because the deal was so good (30% off and free worldwide shipping for orders over $50 USD)! So despite the terrible exchange rate, I placed an order.

If you don’t know about Concrete Minerals, they are 100% vegan and cruelty free, and their loose eye shadows / pigments are absolutely AMAZING and FABTASTIC and AWESOMESAUCE.

Anyways, here’s a peak at what I ordered:

Concrete Minerals

8 full-sized eye shadows, and one tinted lip balm are coming my way!

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but I always buy myself presents for Christmas and for my birthday. Do you buy yourself a little treat for the holidays (whatever holiday that you celebrate)?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation Review

Good morning /afternoon / evening!

Nars 1

I’ve been testing out the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation for the past week and wanted to share my perspective with you all.

If you are new to my blog, you probably will not know that I don’t like wearing liquid foundation. But based on reading several reviews of the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation, I thought that this one might work for my sensitive skin.

Nars 4

Here’s what it says on the Nars website about Sheer Glow:

A glowing, natural radiant finish foundation with sheer and buildable coverage that immaculately evens skin tone. Replete with skincare benefits and the NARS Complexion Brightening Formula, it leaves skin hydrated, more luminous, softer and smoother. Used daily, Sheer Glow Foundation improves the skin’s brightness and texture.

The Sheer Glow Foundation is available in 19 different shades on the Nars website (20 shades on the Sephora site). I chose shade Mont Blanc (Light 2) light with pink undertones.

Nars 6

I find that this foundation feels very light on the skin, a huge plus for me as most foundations make my skin feel like it is suffocating.

Nars 7

The website’s description is true for me, it gives my skin a radiant finish, and makes it appear soft and smooth. I love it, it is the perfect shade for my skin.

Nars 8

I only have two complaints about this foundation and neither of them are about the product itself, but about the packaging. Firstly, it doesn’t come with a pump. But you can buy the pump separately directly from Nars, and probably other places as well. Secondly, the gorgeous matte black cap gets dirty with handling, and is difficult to keep clean.

Urban Decay – Urban Vices (Sephora 500 point perk)

Hello everyone! Sorry for posting this later than usual, but better late than never 🙂

UD Urban Vices3

During the VIB sale at Sephora I noticed that they had a little box set from Urban Decay as a 500 point perk. I tend to hoard my points, so I actually had enough to get this little box set.

UD urban vices5The Urban Vices set contains four mini eyeshadows (0.8g) and a mini 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, and a single-use sample of the Primer Potion  in a cute little cardboard palette. There is a small mirror in the lid of the palette, which I do appreciate.

UD urban vices6

I really love the shades included in this little palette, they are very wearable, especially at this time of year. Swatches are done without primer (sorry, my primer seems to have run away). I don’t think that the photos below really capture the shades, they all are faintly metallic in finish. It would probably show better with primer.

UD urban vices7

UD urban vices8

My only complaint about this palette is that the eyeliner was jammed so tightly into the slot that I had to use a nail file to pry it out.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Disclosure: I used my Sephora VIB points to pay for this palette, so technically I paid for it by shopping at Sephora.

Mini Wild Rose Hand Cream – The Body Shop

Hello!

With the start of colder weather, I decided to get myself a travel sized hand cream to keep in my bag because my hands get very dry. I wanted a hand cream that was super moisturizing but not greasy, and either unscented or lightly scented.

I was taking a shortcut through one of the malls to get to the metro and spotted a Body Shop and decided to pop in to see if they had any travel sized hand creams.

Body Shop1

The Body Shop that I went to had four different travel sized hand creams – absinthe, hemp, almond and wild rose. I smelled them all in the store and decided to buy the Wild Rose scented hand cream because it has a true rose scent (it smells exactly like a freshly picked rose from the garden *swoon*).

Body Shop2

The Wild Rose Hand Cream really is super moisturizing, and not at all greasy.

Body Shop3

I only have two small complaints – the first is that you have to be careful not to squeeze the metal tube too hard, else the hand cream will continue to ooze out of the tube while you are trying to get the cap back on the tube. My second complaint is that, although I do love the wild rose scent, it was VERY STRONGLY scented when I first opened the tube. So much so, that it was be smelled from across the room. But after using it daily, for nearly two weeks, the scent has started to lessen (thankfully).

Nyx HD Concealer in Porcelain

Just a short little review today of the Nyx HD Photogenic Concealer.

Yes, I bought another concealer to try out.

Nyx HD1

I picked this one because I had heard that it was a dupe for the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer (which I have yet to try). Here’s what is says on the Nyx website:

This lightweight cover-up obscures imperfections discoloration and under eye circles without ever looking cakey or obvious. Little wonder the HD Photogenic Concealer Wand is one of our best-sellers. The concentrated emollient-rich formula goes on like a dream and creates medium to heavy coverage. Use the lavender for sallow skin the green to reduce the appearance of redness and the yellow for under-eye darkness.

Nyx HD2

I decided to try the concealer in Porcelain, the lightest shade that they make, as I figured that if it was too light, that I could use it as a highlighter. The doe foot wand makes application super smooth to apply, and you can build the coverage. I’ve been able to use it as an undereye concealer, as well as to minimize any discolouration without having it cake up on my skin. I particularly like this concealer now that my skin is a little drier from the cooler weather. So far, I haven’t had any issues with creasing in the past three weeks (or so) that I’ve been using it.

Nyx HD3

It is available in seven different skin tones (porcelain, fair, light, beige, medium, tan and nutmeg), three different colour correcting shades (lavender, green, and yellow), and one highlighting shade (glow). The skin tone selection should be broader, as the darker skin tone selection is sadly lacking.

Here are some of the other concealers that I’ve reviewed:

Nyx Above & Beyond Full Coverage Concealer (here)

e.l.f. HD Uplifting Concealer (here)

Nyx Dark Circle Concealer (here)

Au Naturale Creme Concealer (here)

Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil – Rocky Mountain Green

Today I’m swatching the Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Rocky Mountain Green. Here’s how the Jumbo Eye Pencil is described on the Nyx website:

A radiant eye liner that also doubles as an eye shadow. Made with a blend of mineral oil and powder our creamy Jumbo Eye Pencils glide on effortlessly—no pulling tugging or fading—and come in a rainbow of vivid hues. Our most voluptuous pencil yet!

 Nyx Jumbo2

I had high hopes for this eye pencil since it can be used as either a liner or as a shadow. Rocky Mountain Green is described as being a true green. In the packaging, it looks like a bright emerald green with a bit of a metallic finish.

Nyx Jumbo4

Here it is swatched directly onto the skin, no primer.

Nyx Jumbo5

I was expecting a more rich, jewel-toned, slightly metallic, emerald colour. The colour isn’t bad, it just isn’t as intense, or pigmented as I was hoping for. But all is not lost! I can use it as a primer of sorts for my ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in Empire. They work amazingly well together!

Nyx Jumbo6Nyx Jumbo7

I will probably pick up a few more to try out since it worked so well to keep my shadow locked into place.

ColourPop Mini Haul November 2015 – Super Shock Shadow in Stereo

Happy Friday! Here is the final swatching post from this month’s mini haul from ColourPop, posts for the Lippie Stix here and the Super Shock Cheek highlighters here. Today I’m showing you the Super Shock Shadow in Stereo.

ColourPop Stereo5

ColourPop Stereo1ColourPop Stereo2

Stereo: “Someone will definitely blast “In Your Eyes” outside your bedroom window if you wear this Blackened burgundy with copper and pink violet duo chrome glitter sprinkled on top in a Metallic finish.” In the packaging and with the lid on, Stereo looks more brown toned burgundy than coppery and pink violet as described. *This one was VERY difficult to photograph, so I tried to shoot it from different angles.*

ColourPop Stereo3ColourPop Stereo4

Instructions for use:

For maximum coverage: Use fingertip and tap shadow onto eye lid. A flat, fine tip synthetic brush will work fabulously as well and is actually better for a more detailed application close to the lash line. However, your fingertips make for the most intense application. To blend: Use a fluffy brush that has good movement, dip tip of the brush into the shadow and blend with a “wind shield wiper” movement throughout the crease of the eye. This will make your shadow softer and more diffused (like a total pro). When finished, close that sucker up tight! Don’t leave the jar opened for long periods of time, you may lose some of the magic that makes the Super Shock Shadow so amazzzing.

ColourPop Stereo6

This final photo is the best representation of Stereo, colour-wise. It best shows the duo-chrome flecks of copper and pinky violet. If you apply it very sparingly, it appears as a blackened shadow with just a hint of sparkle. To get the gorgeous duo-chrome effect, you will have to apply it using the “patting” technique described above.
