Winter Hand Repair with Weleda Skin Food

My hands have gotten so dry this past month with the colder winter weather. Since I had temporarily misplaced my tube of hand cream from the Body Shop but had a free sample tube of Weleda Skin Food (that I received with my last order from well.ca). I decided to try it out.

Here’s what it says on the website:

Weleda Skin Food is a unique, ultra-rich whole-body cream that deeply hydrates, restores and protects skin with nourishing plant oils and extracts.

The essential fatty acids and vitamin E in organic sunflower seed oil take care of stubborn dryness on your elbows, hands and feet as organic pansy calms dry irritation. Soothing rosemary leaf extract’s mild antiseptic properties and the anti-inflammatory properties of Biodynamic® and organic calendula flower extract gently nourish and care for dry skin.

Deeply moisturized and protected, your skin looks soft and supple with a healthy glow. It’s your recommended daily allowance of radiance, and it’s just what you and your skin are craving.

My experience: This thick, pale yellow cream has a definite herbal scent which I really like, but if you don’t enjoy herbal scents, then this one is definitely not for you. It is super moisturizing and my poor dry hands are nearly recovered after just a few days use! I don’t think that I would want to use this cream as a full body moisturizer, it is just too insanely thick and rich, but for dry hands, feet and elbows, this stuff is incredible. For a sample tube, it is quite generous in size at 1oz /$12.50 (USD) – the full size tube is 2.5oz / $19 (USD).

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Disclosure: Free sample with purchase from well.ca. (I bought a new yoga mat by the way)

Concrete Minerals – Pro Matte Swatchfest

Hello, hello! Today I’m continuing the swatchfest from my most recent Concrete Minerals haul, this time with the Pro-Matte Eyeshadows.

Concrete Minerals Pro Matte Eyeshadow

Concrete Minerals Pro Matte Eyeshadow

Pro-Mattes: The website descriptions are in italics.

Wednesday – (Stormy medium-grey) We never knew we could need a grey eyeshadow so much until we came up with this shade. It seems to truly embody the doom and gloom that we love so much about Wednesday Addams!

Concrete Minerals Pro Matte Eyeshadow - Wednesday

I have so many grey toned shadows in my collection, but this is my first matte grey shade.

Concrete Minerals Pro Matte - Wednesday

Notorious – (Bright magenta-purple)

Concrete Minerals Pro Matte - Notorious

Holy brightness batman! This one is INCREDIBLE ❤

Concrete Minerals Pro Matte - Notorious

The Nude Pro-Mattes: I have very few neutral matte shades in my collection, so I thought that I would start with these ones.

Cosmonaut – (Pale cream nude)

Concrete Minerals Pro Matte - Cosmonaut

So soft, and creamy. It nearly  matches my skintone!

Concrete Minerals Pro Matte - Cosmonaut

Bandit – (Soft dusty rose)

Concrete Minerals Pro Matte - Bandit

This one is really soft and pretty, I think it is more rosy brown nude than dusty rose on my skin, but I still love it.

Concrete Minerals Pro Matte - Bandit

Disturbia – (Warm chocolate-brown)

Concrete Minerals Pro Matte - Disturbia

This one makes me want to have a cup of hot chocolate. It is really is a beautiful chocolatey shade. The photo does not truly show how chocolatey that this colour is in real life!

Concrete Minerals Pro Matte - Disturbia

So there you have it, my newest additions to my Concrete Minerals collection! Which ones do you like the best?

Project Focus 10 Collab, Week 1 – Review of Hard Candy Primer

Hello, hello!

Reporting in with my progress for the Project Focus 10 collab that I’m doing with Ingrid from Curly Sping Blossom, Stashy from Stash Matters, and Joy from Styled with Joy. Here’s the lowdown on the Project Focus 10 collab:

10 different products that have been forgotten or neglected, or that we just want to use up, that have not been reviewed on our blogs before (but are still on the market). Over the course of 10 weeks  we will make an effort to try to use them, and review one of the products weekly (every Monday), and update on our progress on each of the 10 products over the 10 week period.

Here’s my review of the Hard Candy Sheer Envy Perfecting Primer. On the back of the tube it says:

Face primer evens complexion, fills in lines and wrinkles. Silky smooth primer creates a flawless canvas for even makeup application while extending the wear of makeup. Apply with fingertips onto the face and gently blend into skin. Let it set and follow with makeup.

Hard Candy Primer Perfecting

My experience: This primer is a whitish gel type formulation and it goes on silky and smooth. But I found that my foundation applied a streaky in places over the primer (and normally it applies without streaking). It made my skin look like it had dry patches in places where I did not. Within a few hours of applying this primer and makeup my skin started to feel a little itchy and irritated in places, so I washed it off because it felt like the start of a reaction. What I had originally thought were the start of an allergic reaction (red welts), rapidily turned into several painful pimples across my chin, and one on my cheek near my nose! I rarely get breakouts, so this really not good! I don’t think that I want to risk using this primer and having the same thing happen again! This is not the product for me and my weirdly sensitive (and sometimes allergic) skin.

Project Focus 10 Collab

Make-up:

1. Essence Lash Mania Mascara – used once

2. Urban Decay Naked 3 palette – used several times (at least four times, maybe five)

3. Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer – used twice

Make-up Tools:

4. Georgie Beauty False Lashes and Adhesive – did not use

5. Wayne Goss Brush 01 (Foundation Brush) – did not use

Haircare and Bodycare:

6. Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Long and Strong Shampoo – used twice

7. Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Long and Strong Conditioner – used twice

8. Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream – used daily

9. Living Proof Prime Style Extender – used twice

So I think that I made mostly good start to Project Focus 10, except for the skin reaction to the primer, and not using either of the make-up tool items even once. I’ll be back with the new review and update on my progress with the Project Focus 10 collab on Monday, February 1st (not counting my regular posts on Wednesday and Friday). Don’t forget to check out my fellow collaborators’ posts:

Concrete Minerals Mini Haul Swatchfest – The Mineral Eyeshadows

Remember my excitement about my Black Friday haul from Concrete Minerals – well, my package FINALLY arrived in early January due to the holidays. Well here’s the swatches from the mineral eyeshadows. I’ll be swatching the Pro-Mattes from the same haul next week (probably on Wednesday).

Concrete Minerals - Mineral Eyeshadow

As you can see, I picked out three different colours – Bitches Brew, Arsenic and Party Monster. They swatch so much better than they appear in the jar, which you will see once we get to the swatching part of the post!

Concrete Minerals - Mineral Eyeshadow

Concrete Minerals - Mineral Eyeshadow

Bitches Brew – (Electric lavender w/ golden-orange shift) The new favorite duochrome! This shade is completely intriguing, which makes sense being that it was inspired by Miles Davis’ classic experimental album from 1970!

Concrete Minerals - Bitches Brew Mineral Eyeshadow

It was really really difficult to capture the duochrome nature of this eyeshadow! In person it is so beautiful – you can really see the orange shift as the light hits it.

Concrete Minerals Bitches Brew Swatch

Arsenic – (Shimmery red-brown w/ blue undertones) A deep, sexy shadow that also looks killer foiled or as a liner! Use this color as a contour, or try deepening a look by adding to the outside crease!

Concrete Minerals Arsenic Mineral Eyeshadow

Similarly, the photos just do not capture the blue shift when the light hits it. It is gorgeous!

Concrete Minerals Arsenic Swatch

Party Monster – (Glittery golden-honey) We originally released this beauty as a LE shade for our birthday sale — when we heard everyone’s amazing feedback we KNEW we had to add this to the full line-up! Neutral honey with enough sparkle to brighten-up any night out, we dubbed this “New Years Eve in a jar”!

Concrete Minerals Party Monster

This one is really pretty, in real life it is more honey toned.

Concrete Minerals Party Monster

Below are some slightly blurred photos to try try to capture the duochrome effect:

I’m a huge Concrete Minerals fan, and have been for years, so these did not disappoint!

Custom Scent Blending with Demeter Fragrance Library

I was super excited to receive a box from Demeter Fragrance Library to introduce their Foolproof Blending Kits. The box contained: a Foolproof Blending Duo in Clean Skin and Sunshine, a Foolproof Blending Trio kit in Vanilla Notes (Hawaiian Vanilla, Angel Food, and Gingerbread), a USB key, and a travel sample keychain in the Laundromat scent.

Demeter Fragrance Library Foolproof Blending

Demeter Fragrance Library Foolproof Blending

Here’s the lowdown on Demeter scent blending from the Demeter website:

RULE # 1
There are no rules.
Simply select your favorite scents. Combine. Experiment. Blend.

BLENDING TIPS

  • Try combining one from the TOP, MIDDLE and BOTTOM note sections on the
    Demeter Blending Pyramid
  • Experiment with different fragrance combinations and proportions
Even the order that you apply the fragrances to the skin will affect the
    final fragrance
  • Try combining multiple fragrances from the same row
  • Try combining multiple fruits or multiple flowers
  • Spray each fragrance on separate paper strips. Combine strips and smell in
various sequences until you find the scent you want to use on your skin.
  • TIP: Use multiple strips of a single fragrance to play with different concentrations

Inside the Foolproof Blending Duo Box, there are two fragrances, Sunshine and Clean Skin, an Empty Bottle to mix your custom scent, several droppers, and a funnel to make your blending process foolproof. Demeter Fragrance Library Foolproof Blending

With my notebook by my side, I began by testing out the Foolproof Blending Duo, first spraying each one separately on my skin and letting them dry down to smell how each scent worked with my body chemistry. Descriptions in italics are taken from the Demeter website, and my reactions are listed after each scent description.

Sunshine – Cotton, warmed by the sun, was the smell that best represented the idea of Sunshine. This is a truly perfect summer scent, it worked great with my body chemistry.

Clean Skin – A blend of orange, lemon, white rose, bergamot peach and vanilla, make for the perfect shower-fresh scent. I LOVE LOVE LOVED this one. Lightly floral and fresh.

The Foolproof Blending Trio comes with three different Vanilla scents: Hawaiian Vanilla, Angel Food and Gingerbread, as well as several blending test strips.

Demeter Fragrance Library Foolpoof Blending

Next, I repeated the same process with the Foolproof Blending Trio, taking notes on how each scent reacted with my body chemistry.

Hawaiian Vanilla – Cultivated on the Hamakua Coast on Big Island of Hawaii this unique orchid grows in the wealthiest soil on earth. Hawaiian heat, sweet rains and mild breezes transform Hawaiian Vanilla blossoms into the richest most aromatic vanilla beans in the world. Demeter’s Hawaiian Vanilla is rich in the aromatic scent of the vanilla bean. This vanilla scent beautiful, it goes quite floral on me, and not too “foody”.

Angel FoodThe critical ingredients reflected in Demeter’s Angel Food are egg whites, sugar, vanilla and coconut. The coconut is our own special touch, from a generations old Pennsylvania recipe, passed down through the family of our founding perfumer. This one is very foody, very cake-like and sweet on my skin.

Gingerbread – Demeter’s Gingerbread is a rich, spicy ginger scent, extremely warm and sexy. At first sniff, it wasn’t very gingery at all, but once it dried down, I loved the spicy undertones and the vanilla helped bring it out.

Demeter Fragrance Library Foolproof Blend

Next I came up with a list of blend combinations that I thought would work, and tested them on the blending strips, on pieces of paper (when I ran out of blending strips), as well as on my skin. I really loved both Clean Skin and Sunshine, so I knew that my base scent would start from that point. I tested the following blends for my base before I started tweaking the scent.

Demeter Fragrance Library Foolproof Blend

  • clean skin + sunshine –  a summery blend, light, bright and floral.
  • clean skin + hawaiian vanilla – nice at first, then became too sweet on my skin
  • clean skin + angel food – the coconut note is too much for me, and this turns too sweet on my skin. (I have an aversion to coconut scents)
  • clean skin + gingerbread – a wintery blend, spicy and floral
  • sunshine + hawaiian vanilla – a summery blend, light, bright and floral, a little too sweet on my skin
  • sunshine + angel food – the coconut note is too much for me, still have an aversion to coconut scents.

Demeter Fragrance Library Foolproof Blend

I decided that for the colder months, that the spicy floral scent would work best for me, so I proceeded to mix Clean Skin with Gingerbread, starting with a 1:1 ratio, and gradually increasing the concentrations until I felt that the scent had the right balance of floral to spicy. I let the scent sit overnight, and tested it on my skin again before tweaking the blend further, and added a touch of Hawaiian Vanilla to add a bit more depth to my custom blended scent. The approximate percentage for my custom blend is Clean Skin 50% Gingerbread 40% and Hawaiian Vanilla 10% for a spicy floral scent with a hint of sweetness that is just so me.

Demeter Fragrance Library Foolproof Blend

Thanks again Demeter Fragrance Library  and Canadian Beauty Bloggers network for this opportunity! #CBBFOOLPROOFBLEND

And finally,  to my followers, thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

OZ Naturals Super Youth 2.5% Retinol Moisturizer

Hello there! Today I’m reviewing the Super Youth 2.5% Retinol Moisturizer from Oz Naturals.

OZ Naturals Super Youth Retinol Moisturizer

Here’s what it says on the website:

A powerful cocktail of antioxidants combine with Vitamin A to diminish fine lines, wrinkles, and premature aging due to sun exposure. This results-oriented formulation fights free radical damage as well as restores and renews firmness, elasticity, and thickness to the skin. Vitamin A boasts a long list of clinically proven restorative, anti-aging, and youth-enhancing properties.

The key ingredients are: Vitamin A (exfoliation, skin cell turnover), Hyaluronic Acid (hydration), Vitamin E (antioxidant), Green Tea (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory , Vitamin B5 (moisture, exfoliation), and Jojoba Oil (super skin ingredient – antioxidant, reduce inflammation, moisture, exfoliation).

OZ Naturals Ret4

And here’s the full ingredient list for those of you who are into the science side of skincare (you know who you are! <3):

Organic Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera), Isopropyl Palmitate (Palm Oil), Kosher Vegetable Glycerin, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Organic Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower Oil), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond Oil), Hyaluronic Acid, Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba Oil), Organic Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea), Organic Resina Propoli (Propolis), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexyl Glycerin, Xanthan Gum, Allantoin, Citric Acid.

My experience: When I started using this moisturizer two weeks ago at night, I stopped using my Retinol Serum (OZ Naturals) because I didn’t want to over do it with the retinol. For the first few nights, I used the moisturizer alone to test for skin sensitivity /reactivity, and once I knew that my skin tolerated it, I added my Vitamin C Serum (also OZ Naturals) back into my nighttime skincare routine. I find that when I combine the two, my skin GLOWS the next day. With the arrival of colder weather, my skin is normally dry and dull, but my skin seems to just drink this moisturizer up, leaving me with hydrated, glowing skin. I especially like the fact that this moisturizer has no real scent.

Naruko Jing Cheng 60 Actives La Creme

Hello there! Today I’m reviewing the last of the items that arrived from Naruko Canada, the Jing Cheng 60 Actives La Creme. This tiny jar (1.6oz / 48gr) of facial cream is packed with sixty different botanicals!

Here’s what it says on the website:

Benefits: A fine-velvety cream that contains 60 Eastern and Western natural botanical extracts which nourishes, repairs and strengthens the skin.  Not only stimulates collagen production to boost elasticity and firmness, but also deeply hydrates, smoothens wrinkles, rejuvenates and balances skin tone.

Directions: Apply a dime size amount onto the fingertips, and evenly massaging onto the face, neck and eye area until it is fully absorbed.  Rub your hands and use palms to press cheeks, forehead and chin for 5-10 seconds to enhance the absorption of the cream.

Skin Type: All skin types, especially aged skin with wrinkles, dullness, sagging and poor absorbency

Formulated WITHOUT: – Parabens – Sulfates

Ingredients: There are so many ingredients, that it takes up two sides of the box – this was very difficult to photograph, and the print is tiny. Hopefully you can read them.

Naruko Jing Cheng 60 Active La Creme

60 La Creme 2

Naruko 60 Creme5

My experience: This cream thick, is almost putty-like in texture, until the heat of your hands warms it up, and you press it into the skin. It is insanely moisturizing. I used mainly for super dry spots, or wrinkle prone areas (I have some fine lines, not major wrinkles so I applied it there). This cream is highly scented, almost perfume-like, which is a bit of a problem if you are sensitive to scents like I am. Although I did love the way that this beautiful cream made my skin feel, I can’t get past the scent, so sadly, this is not the cream for me.

This concludes the reviews of all the things that I received from Naruko Canada. Thanks again Naruko Canada!
