Project Focus 10 Collab, Week 1 – Review of Hard Candy Primer

Hello, hello!

Reporting in with my progress for the Project Focus 10 collab that I’m doing with Ingrid from Curly Sping Blossom, Stashy from Stash Matters, and Joy from Styled with Joy. Here’s the lowdown on the Project Focus 10 collab:

10 different products that have been forgotten or neglected, or that we just want to use up, that have not been reviewed on our blogs before (but are still on the market). Over the course of 10 weeks  we will make an effort to try to use them, and review one of the products weekly (every Monday), and update on our progress on each of the 10 products over the 10 week period.

Here’s my review of the Hard Candy Sheer Envy Perfecting Primer. On the back of the tube it says:

Face primer evens complexion, fills in lines and wrinkles. Silky smooth primer creates a flawless canvas for even makeup application while extending the wear of makeup. Apply with fingertips onto the face and gently blend into skin. Let it set and follow with makeup.

Hard Candy Primer Perfecting

My experience: This primer is a whitish gel type formulation and it goes on silky and smooth. But I found that my foundation applied a streaky in places over the primer (and normally it applies without streaking). It made my skin look like it had dry patches in places where I did not. Within a few hours of applying this primer and makeup my skin started to feel a little itchy and irritated in places, so I washed it off because it felt like the start of a reaction. What I had originally thought were the start of an allergic reaction (red welts), rapidily turned into several painful pimples across my chin, and one on my cheek near my nose! I rarely get breakouts, so this really not good! I don’t think that I want to risk using this primer and having the same thing happen again! This is not the product for me and my weirdly sensitive (and sometimes allergic) skin.

Project Focus 10 Collab

Make-up:

1. Essence Lash Mania Mascara – used once

2. Urban Decay Naked 3 palette – used several times (at least four times, maybe five)

3. Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer – used twice

Make-up Tools:

4. Georgie Beauty False Lashes and Adhesive – did not use

5. Wayne Goss Brush 01 (Foundation Brush) – did not use

Haircare and Bodycare:

6. Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Long and Strong Shampoo – used twice

7. Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Long and Strong Conditioner – used twice

8. Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream – used daily

9. Living Proof Prime Style Extender – used twice

So I think that I made mostly good start to Project Focus 10, except for the skin reaction to the primer, and not using either of the make-up tool items even once. I’ll be back with the new review and update on my progress with the Project Focus 10 collab on Monday, February 1st (not counting my regular posts on Wednesday and Friday). Don’t forget to check out my fellow collaborators’ posts:

  1. I would go back to Walmart and return it ASAP !!! Even if you don’t have the receipt, I would still tell them about this awful reaction !!! I won’t be trying this primer anytime soon 😦 It sucks big time. xo’s

  2. Too bad this primer didn’t work for you. I haven’t been too drawn to Hard Candy products – just worried about the quality of the ingredients especial liquid / cream products.
I like how you list all the Project Focus 10 and how often you used it. 🙂

    1. I have now tried two Hard Candy products – and both of them were disappointing – remember I was telling you about the separated and runny Glamoflage concealer? Yuck. Not for me.
In my blogging notebook, I have the list (per week) and I have notes on each product if I’m liking it or not, and how often I’ve used it to try to keep everything somewhat organized.

  3. That is such a shame that you had a reaction to the product but at least it’s one less in the collection! Do you have a ‘go-to’ primer? I think as far as drug store products go, mine would be the Maybelline Dream Smooth Primer.

  4. Sorry to hear that primer didn’t work for you and how are you feeling now after the breakouts? I hope you are much better now. Well, some of the other products from your list looks interesting and in particularly lemon butter cuticle cream from Burt’s bees

  5. Hard Candy seems to be hit & miss, with more misses than hits. Am I the only one who remembers when they were a high end brand? I remember in the 90s seeing their nail polishes in high end department stores.

      1. I also remember in the late 90s the band Duran Duran was collaborating with Hard Candy to create a nail polish called Electric Barbarella (a song of theirs at the time, plus they got their name from the movie Barbarella), but it fell through and the polish was never released.
