April 2016 Empties

April 2016 Empties

Hello, hello!

Can you believe that April is nearly over already? Just a few products used up this month:

April 2016 Empties

Hair and Body Care:

April 2016 Empties

The Body Shop, Deep Sleep Comforting Milk Bath Float – I loved this foaming bath milk. If I didn’t have a stash of bath and body products to use up, I would buy this one again. The original review is here.

The Body Shop, Wild Rose Hand Cream – I loved this hand cream, but the metal tube cracked and split open before I was finished using it. Not only did it leak hand cream every time I used it, it was sharp enough to slice open my finger. I won’t repurchase this unless they change to a different packaging. The original review is here.

Consonant, Intensive Therapy Organic Hand Cream – Stashy sent this one to me as a part of her Totally Awesome Giveaway. I love, love, loved this hand cream. I will be purchasing a replacement the next time that I make an order from well.ca. The original review is here.

CO LAB, sheer invisible dry shampoo in Rio scent – This is my second can of this dry shampoo. It works well and I like the scent. I’ll be picking up a replacement this afternoon. The original review is here in my March Empties post.

Skincare Empties:

April 2016 Empties

Oz Naturals, Hyaluronic Acid Facial Serum – I’ve gone through several of these serums since my first purchase. Love this stuff. I’m currently testing out some other products right now, but will likely re-purchase this at some point as it works so well with my finicky skin. The original review is here.

Naruko, Rose & Botanic HA Aqua Cubic Night Gelly EX – this stuff is so amazing. I love the rose scent (true rose, not cloying synthetic rose scent). It made my skin so soft, smooth and glowing. I’m currently testing out some other products right now, but will likely purchase this at some point as it works so well with my skin. The original review is here.

Oz Naturals, Vitamin C Facial Cleanser – I liked this cleanser more than the Ocean Minerals one. It worked well for my sensitive skin. I might repurchase at some point, but I’m testing out some new things right now. The original review is here.

Make-up Empties:

Both liquid liners are from Essence. I didn’t use them very often and the pen dried out, and the wand got clumpy – both from lack of use. Despite having a big love for Essence, I won’t be repurchasing either of these liners. The original reviews are here.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Brilliant Brunette – John Frieda Voxbox

Hello, hello!

I received my very first influenster voxbox a few weeks ago, for John Frieda’s #MyJohnFrieda campaign. In the box were three products from the Brilliant Brunette line, more specifically, the Visibly Brighter Shampoo, Conditioner and In-Shower Lightening Treatment.

#MyJohnFrieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter

Here’s some information on the Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Subtle Lightening Shampoo:

Give your brunette hair a natural-looking, illuminating glow. Formulated with honey and marigold flower extract, our Brilliant Brunette® Visibly Brighter™ Subtle Lightening Shampoo cleanses and gradually infuses golden tones to illuminate the spectrum of your brunette colour

Here’s some info on the Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Subtle Lightening Conditioner:

Hydrate your hair with a natural-looking, illuminating glow. Formulated with honey and marigold flower extract, our Brilliant Brunette® Visibly Brighter™ Subtle Lightening Conditioner moisturizes your hair and illuminates the spectrum of brunette tones.

Both are free of ammonia and peroxide, and safe for natural and colour-treated hair, including high-lighted / low-lighted hair.

Now, onto the Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter In-shower Lightening Treatment:

Cast a light on colour. In just 5 minutes, Brilliant Brunette® Visibly Brighter™ In-Shower Lightening Treatment illuminates to reveal a lighter shade of brunette in 1 wash. Lightens only your natural brunette spectrum, so hair won’t appear bleached or orange.

Here’s the usage instructions:

Slip off clear outer cap and discard. Break off tab to expose both holes and apply entire contents of treatment to wet hair, concentrating on the root regrowth or all over. Rinse hands. Leave treatment on for 5 minutes, then rinse completely. Follow with Brilliant Brunette® Visibly Brighter™ Shampoo and/or Conditioner, if desired. Use 1-2 times in between colourings.Safe for natural, highlighted and coloured hair.

#MyJohnFrieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter

My Experience:

First off, here’s a little background on my hair. I’m naturally a dark brunette shade, with a few “light streaks” starting. My hair is colour-treated, and I’ve recently changed from a dark brunette to a warmer toned medium brunette shade that has auburn / mahogany tones.

I decided to approach this review in the same way that I would for a skincare review and use the products exclusively for approximately 3.5 weeks, starting with freshly coloured hair, and take a photo each week for comparison purposes. Hair is air-dried, no styling products added, taken outdoors in full sun. *Warning, my hair is crazy without styling products to tame it. *

The shampoo and conditioner work well on my thick, wavy, frizz-prone hair. The scent is pleasant, and not at all overpowering. My hair feels clean and conditioned after use. I did notice after a few uses that my hair colour was not fading out as quickly as it normally would, and that the colour was more dimensional, with high and low tones.

I used the In-Shower Treatment two weeks after colouring my hair. It has a faint “hair-dye” scent, likely due to the peroxide and ammonia content, but it isn’t overpowering, and the scent washes away when you rinse the treatment out. I didn’t find that my hair was a full shade lighter, but it did help even out my hair colour – the ends are darker than my roots due to changing from a dark to a more medium brunette colour (and I need to get the ends trimmed). My hair was a little dry after using the In-Shower Treatment, so if you have dry or damaged hair, be prepared for this possibility. But it was nothing that a hair mask couldn’t help.

Disclosure: These products were provided by Influenster and John Frieda in exchange for an honest review. My opinion is my own regardless of this fact.

Herban Cowboy Deodorant Reviews

Hello, hello!

I purchased two deodorants from Herban Cowboy a few weeks ago for myself and the Mr. to test out. We’ve both made the switch from anti-perspirants to deodorants about two years ago, and wanted to try some new ones.

Herban Cowboy Maximum Protection Deodorant

Herban Cowboy deodorants are free of propylene glycol, triclosan, and aluminum. They are vegan and cruelty-free and are supposed to be long lasting.

I picked out the Herban Cowboy for Her, Maximum Protection Deodorant in Love for me, and for the Mr. I got Herban Cowboy Maximum Protection Deodorant in Dusk.

Here’s the ingredient list for Love:

Ingredients: Propanediol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Aqua, Sodium Stearate, Glycerin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Carum Petroselinum (Parsley) Extract, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Allantoin, Bisabolol, Mineral Salts, Fragrance

Love has a mild, pleasant, slightly herbal scent, with a faint musk undertone. And Dusk has a generic slightly stronger “manly deodorant” scent.

Neither of us experienced any skin sensitivity or irritation while using them.

Both of us had very similar experiences with using the deodorants. They worked well. Until they didn’t. It works great, and then BAM! It doesn’t work and both of us found that when it stops working, it REALLY stops working, worse than if we had skipped wearing deodorant that day.

If I know that I am going to have a long day, I bring it with me to touch up, since it seems to break down and stop working after anywhere from 6 to 8 hours, depending on activity level.

Because everyone has different body chemistry, you might try this deodorant and it will work amazingly well. Or you might have a similar experience. The only way to know, is to take a chance and try it out.

This is my second blog post about natural deodorants. For the original post, and talk about the underarm detox process that happens after switching from anti-perspirant to deodorant click the link to check it out.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Also – I went for my first run of the season this morning! It felt great to ease my way back into running, and my knees did not bother me at all! My endurance is not great, but it is always like that when I first start running again each year.

Dislosure: I purchased these things!

Black Moon Cosmetics – Sale!

Since so many people liked my review of the liquid to matte lipsticks from Black Moon, I thought that I would share this email that I received:

I’m not affiliated with Black Moon Cosmetics, nor will I profit from any sales.

I just wanted to share this with you beautiful people!

Back to regular posts on Monday!

Swatching Eyeliners

Hello, hello!

Since people seemed to like my swatching singles posts, I thought that I would continue with the theme and swatch all of my eyeliners for you. I’d gotten rid of a lot of old ones at some point last year, so my collection is fairly small.

Swatching Eyeliners

I have several from Urban Decay, one from Tarte, one from Kat Von D, and an ancient one from Stila.

Here’s the one’s from Urban Decay: from left to right perversion (the blackest matte black), zero (black), smokeout (more of a dark brown), psychedelic sister (awesome purple) and goldmine (gold). Out of these ones, I use perversion, zero and smokeout the most. I sometimes use psychedelic sister, and rarely ever use goldmine.

Swatching Eyeliners

These two I had completely forgotten that I owned – the first one is from Tarte, I think that this one came in a 500 points gift from Sephora ages ago. The other one is from Stila, and is ANCIENT. I don’t even think that this product still exists, but it continues to be smooth and creamy, so I’ll probably keep it a little longer.

Swatching Eyeliners

Up next are the only two liquid liners in my collection. The first one, is a mini that I’d gotten in my giveaway winnings from Hello Kaily last year. This was another one that had gotten lost in my makeup trays, so I think that this is the first (maybe second) time I’ve ever opened it. I’ll probably try using it later this week. The second one is from Essence, and it has thickened up, so I’ll be putting it in my April empties post before trashing it.

Swatching Eyeliners

So there you have it, all of the eyeliners in my make-up stash.

Do you have a lot of eyeliners? Or do you just have “the one”?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Disclosure: None of these things were given to me by companies. I either purchased them myself, or got them as point perks from Sephora ,or won in a personal blog giveaway.

Swatching Singles – Black, White & Silver

Hello, hello!

This is the last colour grouping for my single shadows swatching project. I hope that you’ve enjoyed taking a peek at my shadow collection. I really liked doing this as it made me rediscover some hidden and forgotten gems! These ones are from Concrete Minerals, Urban Decay, Fyrinnae and one oldie from Annabelle. Here we go, from left to right, swatched on bare skin / no primer, taken in natural light with favourites in bold.

From Fyrinnae, we have Pure Sugar, and Mithril:

Swatching Singles B&W, Silver

I completely forgot that I owned these two! With primer, Pure Sugar is more white, and Mithril is more silver.

b&w&silver2

Next we have two from Concrete Minerals – Wednesday and Ether:

Swatching Singles B&W, Silver

I love these two shades so much!

Swatching Singles B&W, Silver

Up next is Urban Decay Gunmetal, and Concrete Minerals Nocturne:

Swatching Singles B&W, Silver

Gunmetal was my go-to for a smokey eye for a long time!

Swatching Singles B&W, Silver

Here’s Annabell Carbon, and Concrete Minerals Black Metal:

Swatching Singles B&W, Silver

Black Metal is amazing when used over primer, or used wet!

Swatching Singles B&W, Silver

Here’s another two that I completely forgot that I owned, Fyrinnae Immortality and Kuroneko:

Swatching Singles B&W, Silver

Photos do not capture the the amazing rainbow flecks in Immortality! Again, these two are best used over primer, or wet.

Swatching Singles B&W, Silver

So there you have it, my entire single shadow collection has been swatched! Which ones do you like the best?

In case you’ve missed it, here’s my  gold / copper / bronze and oranges,  greens, bluespinks , purples  and browns in my collection.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Disclosure: I purchased all of these things!

Swatching Singles – The Browns

Hello, hello!

Today I’m swatching the brown toned single shadows in my collection. As always, swatched on bare skin / no primer in natural light. My favourites are in bold. These ones are from Concrete Minerals, Urban Decay, Fyrinnae and ColourPop.

Let’s get started! From left to right we have: Urban Decay (Smog, YDK, and Lounge)

Swatching Singles - The Browns

I’d forgotten how beautiful these ones were!

Swatching Singles - The Browns

Up next we have Fyrinnae (Medieval Haunting), Urban Decay (Underground) and Fyrinnae (Pumpkinfire).

Swatching Singles - The Browns

Pumpkinfire is really difficult to photograph, it has such a beautiful dark orange micro glitter type flash.

Swatching Singles - The Browns

Up next are that are so closely matched, Fyrinnae (Iberian Lynx) and Concrete Minerals (Party Monster).

Swatching Singles - The Browns

In person, they are even more similar than the swatch appears! That is a good thing because I think that the Fyrinnae one has been discontinued!

Swatching Singles - The Browns

Up next we have three from Concrete Minerals – Cosmonaut, Disturbia and Bandit:

Swatching Singles - The Browns

I’ve been wearing this three paired together a lot lately, and sometimes with a bit of Party Monster thrown into the mix.

Concrete Minerals Pro Matte - CosmonautConcrete Minerals Pro Matte - Disturbia

Concrete Minerals Pro Matte - Bandit

And lastly we have ColourPop (Stereo) and Concrete Minerals (Arsenic):

Swatching Singles - The Browns

I need to use these two more often. That is the wonderful thing about this project, I’m rediscovering so many gems!

browns9

So there you have it, all of the brownish toned single shadows in my collection. Which ones do you like the best?

I have just one colour grouping left to swatch for you all – the black, white, grey and silver toned shadows.

In case you’ve missed it, I’ve already swatched the gold / copper / bronze and oranges, the greens, the blues, the pinks and the purples in my collection.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Birthday Loot

Hello, hello!

And now for something a little different, today I’m showing you some of my birthday loot.

A few days before my birthday, I was given a box filled with one of my favourite teas – Clipper Organic Detox Infusion. This tea has been harder and harder to find for the past several months, so this was really awesome!

Clipper Tea

On the weekend before my birthday, I was given a bottle of bubbly. It says Sexy Brut on the bottle, which makes me laugh. It was actually a really lovely wine.

Sexy Brut

I got myself five pairs of sunglasses from the Sunglass Spot as a birthday gift to myself. I know that there are only three pairs pictured, but the other two have mirror lenses and just didn’t photograph well.

Sunglasses from the sunglass spot

I was given two records, and supposedly a third one is coming in the mail today.

Florence & the Machine, Amy Winehouse

I was given a new pair of Blundstone boots! I’ve had my first pair in black for several years. I can’t wait to start wearing them!

Blundstones!

I was given a black wrap (poncho?- I’m not quite sure what to call it), and a black and white infinity scarf.

Black poncho wrap and black & white infinity scarf

I was also given a bottle of bath milk. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ll review it once I’ve had a chance to try it a couple of times.

Caprina Foaming Milk Bath

As well, we went out for dinner on my actual birthday to a cute little Mexican place nearby, called Restaurant Mais. There was a mini snow storm happening that night, so the restaurant was nearly empty, it was just us and one other table while we were there which was lovely!

I’ll be back to swatching singles on Wednesday with the purple shadows in my collection.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤
