July 2016 Empties

Hello, hello!

July Empties 2016

I didn’t finish up that many products this month, so this will be a short one!

July Empties 2016

Rock Your Hair Spray It Clean Dry Shampoo * – This was a freebie from GenBeauty. I really liked this dry shampoo, but haven’t ever seen it in stores, so it is unlikely that I will purchase this (unless Sally Beauty opens a store here). Review is here.

Co Lab Sheer Invisible Dry Shampoo in Rio (tropical scent) – I’ve already purchased a replacement for this dry shampoo, it is my favourite one so far! I’ve never actually reviewed this, but it has been in several of my empties posts!

Alterna Caviar Repair Instant Recovery Conditioner – I’ve had this conditioner for YEARS. It is crazy thick and nearly impossible to squeeze conditioner out of the bottle – there is still a little bit in the bottle, but it refuses to come out. I don’t think that they are cruelty free, so I won’t be repurchasing this one unless I find out for sure.

Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom Super Hydrating Hand Cream – This one is great for dry skin, but is highly scented. If you are sensitive to scents, then this one might not be for you. I mostly used it on my feet, due to the scent being a little too much. I believe that this one was gifted to me. I’d like to try some of the other scents, but not right away as i’ve got quite a stash of hand creams to use up.

Skinfix Ultra Rich Hand Cream * – I love this stuff! It is so rich and hydrating, without being greasy. As an added plus, it is fragrance free. I’ll probably purchase this one in the colder months once I use up more of my stash. This was a freebie from GenBeauty. Review is here.

Sukin Hyrdrating Toner Mist – This one made it into my July Faves. I love this facial mist, it is so refreshing and soothing. It has a mild rose scent that I absolutely love. I’ve already repurchased this one. Review is here.

July Empties3

Essence Prettifying Lip Oil – I purchased this at the Essence booth at GenBeauty. I really loved this lip oil. I will repurchase it if I find it in a store. Review is here.

Tarte Lipsurgence Natural Matte Lip Tint – To be honest, I’ve had this for YEARS. After reading Stashy’s blog post about her makeup purge, I decided to go through all of my lip products to check to see if any of them had gone off. This one was the only one – the minty scent is still there, but slightly off, and the sides are discoloured, so it is time to pitch this one. I have several red lipsticks in my stash, so I don’t need to replace this one any time soon.

Have you finished up many things this month? I just hit pan on my Too Faced Cocoa Powder Foundation – I wonder how long it will take me to finish it?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

July Faves (2016)

Hello, hello!

I cannot believe that it is the end of July already! This summer is flying by!

Today I’d like to show you my faves for the month.

Sukin Hydrating Mist Toner – this facial mist is so refreshing and soothing. I use it after I was my face, and during the day whenever I feel that I need a blast of soothing goodness. Especially great during the past two weeks of super hot and humid weather. Reviewed here.

Sukin Purifying Facial Masque – I’ve been multi-masking these days, using this one everywhere except for my nose and chin. Reviewed here.

Pixi Glow Mud Mask – I’ve been using this one on my nose and chin along with the above mentioned Sukin Facial Mask. I’m going to be sad when this one is finished since I haven’t found anywhere that carries Pixi since the closure of Target. Reviewed here. *

NuWorld Botanicals Multi-Nutritive 3-in-1 Oil in Energy Boost – I’ve been using this one a LOT these days, in the bath, or applied after a bath or shower, even in my hair. I just love the scent! It is a definite mood lifter!  Reviewed here. *

Schmidt's Natural Deodorant

Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant – I just reviewed this on Monday, but this is a definite fave. Especially after the hot and humid weather! Best deodorant that I’ve EVER used. Review is here.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Frick’n’Frack and Dopey. This summer I’ve been all about rose toned lips. Reviewed here and here.

Nyx Ombre Blush in Mauve Me. I’ve been wearing this one a lot, it gives a subtle glow when applied. Reviewed here.

Wet n Wild Coloricon “Bronzer” in Reserve My Cabana. This has been my go-to highlighter nearly every single day this month. I can’t thank Stashy enough for this one! Reviewed here. %

What were your faves this month?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Schmidt’s Deodorant Review

Schmidt's Natural Deodorant

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing two Schmidt’s Deodorants. Schmidt’s Deodorants are natural, vegan and cruelty-free and are available in stick or jar format in five different scents: lavender and sage, bergamot and lime, cedarwood and juniper, ylang-ylang and calendula, and fragrance free.

I’ve been testing the Ylang-Ylang and Calendula, and the Mr. has been testing the Cedarwood and Juniper scent.

Schmidt's Natural Deodorant

The elegant aroma of Ylang-Ylang + Calendula is sweet with delicate floral notes. This formula is soothing to the skin with enhanced antibacterial protection.

Ingredients (Ylang-Ylang and Calendula scent): Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, Cocos Nucifera (coconut) Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (candelilla) Wax, Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (fractionated coconut oil), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cananga odorata (ylang-ylang) essential oil, Calendula officinalis (calendula) essential oil, Tocopherol (vitamin E)

Cedarwood + Juniper is a favorite among men and women alike. This provocative blend offers a warm, woody scent that is irresistible, with antiseptic & detoxifying benefits.

Ingredients (Cedarwood and Juniper scent): Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, Cocos Nucifera (coconut) Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (candelilla) Wax, Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (fractionated coconut oil), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cedrus deodara (Himalayan cedar) essential oil, Juniperus (juniper) essential oil, Tocopherol (vitamin E)

For the past week (me), and for the past two weeks (the Mr.) , have been wear testing these deodorants under pretty tough testing conditions as the weather has been super hot and humid, and the final test was yesterday with a 5.4 km hike in Rigaud! *see my Instagram for a few photos*

Schmidt's Natural Deodorant

These deodorants REALLY WORK! Yesterday was a really active day, and there was lots of sweating during our hot afternoon hike. But neither of us smelled AT ALL! Not even a tiny bit!

Schmidt’s is long lasting, I’d say easily 20 to 24 hours. And no skin irritation reported by either of us. Out of all the deodorants that we have tested, I think that this brand might work the best for both of our body chemistries!

In case you’ve missed it, I’ve reviewed a few different deodorants, the first in my blog post about switching from anti-perspirant to deodorant where I talk about the detox process, and review three different brands (Primal Pit Paste, Zabana Essentials, and Earth Science Naturals), Herban Cowboy, and last week’s review of the Tom’s of Maine deodorant.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Disclosure: I purchased these things!

Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting Deodorant in Soothing Calendula

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the Long Lasting Deodorant from Tom’s of Maine in the Soothing Calendula scent.

Just a few points to remember from my previous deodorant reviews – 1. Every one’s body chemistry is different, what works for me might not work for you (and vice versa), 2. If you are new to switching from anti-perspirant to deodorant, there is a detox period (I wrote about this process previously, check it out here), and 3. I have sensitive skin, and certain ingredients can trigger skin irritation.

Here’s a little info about the product from the website:

Clinically proven 24-hour odor protection. Dermatologist tested. Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting deodorant sticks provide clinically proven 24-hour odor protection to help keep you feeling fresh throughout the day! This effective long-lasting, aluminum-free deodorant stick contains the botanical ingredient hops to inhibit the growth of odor-causing bacteria. The Soothing Calendula stick contains 100% natural fragrance to help keep you feeling confidently fresh all day!

Let’s take a peek at the ingredient list:

Propylene glycol, water, sodium stearate, aloa vera leaf juice (organic), glyceryl laurate, natural fragrance, hops [CO2] extract, sunflower seed oil (organic), ascorbic acid, lemongrass oil (organic)

My Experience:

I tested out this deodorant for a full week. The week that I wear-tested the Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting Deodorant was super hot and humid, so I knew that I would definitely be putting this product through a tough test.

First off, this deodorant stick is gentle on the underarms, and applies easily. I did not experience any skin irritation with this one. The scent is mild and pleasant. I can’t say that it lasted 24 hours on me, but it lasted fairly well, anywhere from 10 to 12 hours most days, and on the hottest and most active day, I’d say that it lasted about 8 hours. On me, this deodorant gradually stops working (giving you time to “touch up” before getting smelly), not like the Herban Cowboy one that abruptly stopped working and went from smelling great to dumpster stench on both myself and the Mr. (review is here).

Overall, this one works pretty well on me. If you’ve made the switch from antiperspirants to deodorants, how was your experience? Which one do you use?

Both myself and the Mr. have been testing out yet another brand of deodorant this past week (another super hot and humid week). Next week I’ll be posting my review with both of our experiences.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Sephora Wishlist – Makeup

Hello, hello!

Today I’m going to show you what is on my Sephora wishlist. Surprisingly, it is a small list of things that I need to go swatch at my local store. *All photos are taken from the Sephora Canada website*

Eyeshadow Palettes:

Anastasia Beverly Hills

I’m torn between the Anastasia Modern Renaissance Palette and the Tartelette In Bloom Palette.

Bite Beauty

Oh my, there are so many of the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipsticks that I need to go swatch! So far on my list are: Thistle, Taro, Sugarcane, Molasses, Chai, Verbena, Rhubarb, Sake, Fig and Pepper.

Too Faced

Once again, I’m torn between two products, the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer, and the Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer (which was just reviewed by the lovely Stash Matters).

So there you have it, my current Sephora wishlist. Are you wishing for any of these products? What is on your current wishlist?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Disclosure: Nothing to disclose, this is a wishlist, silly.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Frick’n’Frack

Hello, hello!

Today I’m swatching the last of the three ColourPop liquid lipsticks that I decided to keep from my recent mini haul – the Ultra Satin Lip in Frick’n’Frack.

You be Frick and we’ll be Frack and we’ll both look good in this rosy terracotta.

I really love this one, it is a perfect earthy rose shade. Darker than Dopey (reviewed here), but still a perfect summer colour. I don’t know which one I love more!

This one is a wee bit drier than Dopey, but is not drying on the lip (hopefully that makes sense), and is just a long wearing.

I definitely want to try a few more shades in the Ultra Satin Lip collection! Have you tried any – if so which ones?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Lost

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Lost

Hello, hello!

Today I’m swatching and reviewing another one of the ColourPop Ultra Satin liquid lipsticks in the shade Lost.

I once was lost, but now I’m found …and I’m looking amazing in this warm-toned brown red lippie.

Ok, this one does not look in any way like a brown toned red on me. It swatches very brightly on my skin (and on my lips) – more of a bright crimson red. I think that I will be wearing it a lot in the colder seasons. But for right now, I’m going to stick with my pink and mauve tones for summer.

Like Dopey (reviewed here), I find it to be not quite matte, and not quite satin in its finish, but again, very comfortable on the lips. This one STAINS majorly, so application has to be perfect, otherwise you can’t clean up any mistakes. This one is a little tricky to apply, I find that I need to either use a lip brush to apply, or use a lip liner to keep the edges nice.

The photo on the right is after wiping with a kleenex and then rubbing with a micellar water soaked cotton pad. It took a second round of scrubbing to remove the staining completely.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Dopey

Hello, hello!

I gave a little sneak peek on my Instagram of my recent ColourPop mini haul in which I purchased five liquid lipsticks – four Ultra Satin and one Ultra Matte, out of which two will be set aside (without being swatched) for my upcoming giveaway that I’m planning, and three are for me!

First off, my package took forever to arrive (NOT ColourPop’s fault) as it got stuck in customs / postal system on the long weekend leading up to the Canada Post union negotiations and possible strike / mail stoppage. Secondly, because it was packaged in a padded envelope, the boxes got a little squished when the package was jammed into my mailbox (again, NOT ColourPop’s fault).

Onto the review! I’ve been so busy, that I haven’t had the time to photograph and swatch all three Ultra Satin liquid lipsticks yet. I’ve managed to test out only one so far in the shade Dopey, a dusty mauve shade.

This is my first testing of the Ultra Satin liquid lipsticks. It dries to a not quite matte, not quite satin finish that is long wearing and very comfortable on the lips. The first time that I wore it, I applied it at 9am, and it was still visible, although slightly starting to fade by 5pm, lasting through lunch. I made sure to not top it up and not apply lip balm to test longevity.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Dopey

And the colour, oh the colour! I love the pinky mauve shade! It is slightly pinker toned than my well loved Wrath from Black Moon Cosmetics (reviewed here).

Have you tried any of the Ultra Satin liquid lipsticks from ColourPop?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

July Wishlist – Skincare

Hello, hello!

Today I’d like to share my current wishlist of skincare products that I really want to try out. *Please note, all photos are taken from their respective websites*

The first three skincare products are from Antipodes – some of these picks were influenced by the lovely Anne from Doves and Roses, a cleanser, a facial oil and a day cream:
