Project Pan 12 Collab, Week 8 Review

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the 8th of 12 products for my Project Pan 12 collab with these lovely fellow bloggers:  Ingrid from CurlySpringBlossom, and Stashy from Stash Matters, and Chanelle from ChanelleHayleyyy!

Basically, the Project Pan 12 goal is to use up (or at least make a good attempt to use up) twelve products over the course of twelve weeks, and to review one of the products each week. After the product review, I’ll give a very short comment on the remaining eleven products just to account for whether or not I’ve been successful in using each of the products.

Onto the review!

This week was originally planned for my review of the Sukin Rosehip Day Cream but my mom fell in love with it on our trip, so she has it now. To be fair to my fellow collaborators, this product has been replaced by the Sukin Purifying Facial Masque.

I originally reviewed the Sukin Purifying Facial Masque back in May. Here’s the info from the website:

A purifying base of gentle Kaolin clay combined with soothing aloe vera and antioxidant rich rose hip oil will leave skin feeling refreshed, nurtured and completely clean. Paraben Free.

For the past two weeks I’ve been using this mask once a week. It is so gentle and soothing. I cannot believe that I’ve been neglecting this facial mask. My skin looks and feels amazing after using it! Like all Sukin products, this mask smells amazing – due to the essential oils of tangerine, mandarin orange, lavender, vanilla and grapefruit.

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Bentonite, Talc, Kaolin, Lecithin, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil (Rose Hip), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Citric Acid, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Peel Oil, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Peel Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Vanillin, Vanilla Planifolia Extract, CI 77491, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Limonene*, Linalool*. * Natural component of essential oils.

Maui Moisture Launch at Hotel William Gray, Old Montreal

Hello, hello! Today’s blog post is going to be a long one!

Yesterday I attended the breakfast launch for the Maui Moisture haircare line at the gorgeous Hotel William Gray in Old Montreal. Their tagline is Feel good about looking beautiful / Se sentir bien d’être en beauté.

Maui Moisture

We were greeted by the PR team, and were treated to a breakfast buffet, with fresh juice or coconut water from Greenhouse Juice Co. I had the Wake Up Juice which is a blend of grapefruit, orange, lemon and cayenne. It was really good!

Look at the beautiful table setting:

Maui Moisture

At each seat there was an empty glass terrarium that we were able to make and take home from the Crown Flora Studio. This was a really beautiful idea, I loved that we got to customize our terrariums!

Maui Moisture

We could choose which gravel to use (various colours and textures), mosses, driftwood, stones, and little plastic figures (some of which included dinosaurs!), as well as different air plants. Here’s the one that I made:

Maui Moisture / Crown Floral Studio

After we made our terrariums, we were introduced to the Maui Moisture brand and the different ranges. Maui Moisture is a

refreshing and reparative hair care line developed with exotic botanicals and plant essences found on the tropical islands. This new collection, comprised of handcrafted shampoos, conditioners and hair treatments, is the first in the marketplace to use pure aloe juice as the first ingredient, replacing deionized, chemically treated water, and infuse all formulas with pure coconut water. Using aloe juice as its base, each Maui Moisture product is super rich in minerals, electrolytes and vitamins. The result is a deeply nourishing and restorative hair treatment from root to tip for hair that’s soft, shiny, healthy, and strong.

Maui Moisture is responsibly sourced, vegan and made with eco-friendly materials. The products do not contain any parabens, phthalates, sulfate surfactants, colorants, petrolatum, silicones, gluten or mineral oils.

And their stance on animal testing:

MAUI MOISTURE® products are NOT tested on animals. MAUI MOISTURE® does not initiate animal tests on either finished products or ingredients whether directly or indirectly. All ingredients used are carefully monitored. All suppliers are requested to confirm that their materials have not been tested on animals. Ingredients which do not have this data supplied for them are not used in any products. MAUI MOISTURE® is against the suffering endured by animals when ingredients and products are tested. We support suppliers and organizations that are developing alternative methods of testing without using animals.

There are five different ranges that will be available in Canada:

Maui Moisture

Maui Moisture Coconut Milk – Nourish & Moisture (normal to dry) with coconut milk, guava oil and mango butter, available in shampoo, conditioner and oil mist.

Maui Moisture

Maui Moisture Shea Butter – Heal & Hydrate (dry, damaged, over-processed) with shea butter, coconut oil, and macadamia oil, available in shampoo, conditioner and hair mask.

maui-moisture7

Maui Moisture Agave Nectar – Strength & Anti-Breakage (chemically treated) with agave nectar extract, hibiscus oil and pineapple oil extract, available in shampoo,, conditioner, and hair mask.

Maui Moisture

Maui Moisture Coconut Oil – Curl Quench (thick, curly hair) with coconut oil, papaya butter and plumeria extract, available in shampoo, conditioner and curl smoothie.

Maui Moisture

Maui Moisture Bamboo Fibers – Thicken & Restore (fine hair) with bamboo fibers, castor oil and neem oil, available in shampoo, conditioner and blowout mist.

The Canadian release for January 2017, and the products will retail for $10.99 at local drugstores and other retailers across Canada. The line is currently available in the United States at Ulta.

Maui Moisture

We each got a little box that contained our choice of a shampoo and conditioner from either the Bamboo Fiber or the Coconut Milk ranges, as well as a fresh juice (this time I got Deep Roots – beet, carrot, apple, celery and lemon) and a coconut water.

Because my hair is already voluminous, I chose the Coconut Milk set as this would work for my hair type which needs hydration and shine. It does not smell like coconut to me! *As some of you might recall, I have an aversion to coconut scents* I think that the guava oil and mango butter make the scent work for my nose!

Maui Moisture

I can’t wait to try this shampoo and conditioner out! Full review to follow once I’ve had a chance to test them out long enough to have a solid opinion on them.

Maui Moisture

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Disclosure: PR samples from event launch that I was invited to attend. My opinion is my own, based on my experience.

October Ipsy Glam Bag First Impressions

Hello, hello!

My Glam Bag only arrived last week, and to be honest, I was a little underwhelmed this month by its contents. The bag itself, however, is super cute and I love it!

Ipsy Glam Bag Oct 2016

This month’s bag was designed by Valfré – I really love this month’s bag! Onto the unbagging!

Ipsy Glam Bag Oct 2016

The first product is the Tatcha Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil. I was super excited about this one since I’ve yet to try a cleansing oil that I haven’t liked! I’ll be testing this out in about two weeks (or so) as I’m currently taking a slight break from testing new facial skincare products. Here’s what it says on the Ipsy website:

Come into bloom. Nutrient-rich camellia oil from the Goto Islands moisturizes as it removes makeup and cleanses. That’s what we call flower power.

  • Ready for liftoff. Leaves no residue behind whatsoever.
  • Rice bran oil hydrates and makes skin feel silky.
  • Just say no to irritation. Mild enough for all skin types.

This is a cruelty-free brand according to my research.

Ipsy Glam Bag Oct 2016

The second product is the Ciaté London Fierce Flicks Eyeliner. I guess that I doomed myself into getting a black eyeliner every month because I had originally said that you can’t have too many black eyeliners. I’ll be passing this onto someone who will use it as I already have too many black liquid eyeliners (that I rarely wear). Here’s what it says on the Ipsy website:

The little black dress of liners. One sweep of this intensely dark shade is all you need to create a chic look. Easy to apply and goes with everything.

  • Exacting standards. Precision felt tip makes drawing thin or winging out simple.

  • It’s not going anywhere, thanks to the long-lasting and budge-proof formula.

  • Keep it smooth. Glides on, even over eye shadows.

This is a cruelty free brand according to my research.

Ipsy Glam Bag Oct 2016

The third product is VINTAGE by Jessica Liebeskind Brighten and Define Eyeshadow Palette in Vanilla / Espresso. This “palette” is tiny. I already have similar colours so I’ll probably pass this onto someone who will use it. Here’s what it says on the Ipsy website:

Black and white and pretty all over. Two matte shadows that really make our eyes pop. If we had to pack only one palette, this would be it. #Essential

  • The softer side. Velvety texture glides onto lids.
  • Add some sweetness. Creamy vanilla shade brightens.
  • Double up on espresso. Deep brown-black creates the perfect lines.
This brand seems to be cruelty free based on my research.
Ipsy Glam Bag Oct 2016
The fourth product is the Lovely Sarah Jessica Parker Fragrance Rollerball. Description is taken from the Ipsy website:

Every girl’s dream. Whether we’re feeling like a Carrie, a Miranda, a Samantha or a Charlotte—this silky white amber scent is just our type.

  • Feminine and a bit fantastic. Goes from office hours to after hours.

  • Top notes of mandarin, bergamot and rosewood set a dreamy tone.

  • Patchouli, cedarwood, white amber and orchid release the sultry side.
The description sounds like a scent that I would love. But there is something about this fragrance that my nose does not like. I’ll be passing this one onto someone who will use it.
 Ipsy Glam Bag Oct 2016
The fifth and final product is the TrèStiQue Matte Lip Crayon in shade Belize Bordeaux. Description is taken from the Ipsy website:

Lips on lock. Creamy and lightweight formula glides on smoothly and leaves a long-lasting matte finish. Our go-to for a perfect pout.

  • Super cute cap is made to stay put—so the color doesn’t dry out
  • Won’t emphasize lines or imperfections on lips (like many other crayons do)
Belize Bordeaux is a lovely matte wine shade. I do find it to be a little drying, but still wearable with a bit of lip balm added once it starts to feel dry.
This brand seems to be cruelty free based on my research.
Ipsy Glam Bag Oct 2016
Overall, this month’s bag was underwhelming for me. I am only excited about the bag itself and the Tatcha Cleansing Oil. The TrèStiQue Lip Crayon is ok, but the other three products (Ciaté Eyeliner, Lovely SJP Rollerball and Vintage by Jessica Liebeskind) will be passed on to someone who will use them.
I am happy that Ipsy seems to be mostly sending brands that seem to be cruelty free based on my research. *If you know any brand research is incorrect, please let me know, so I can correct my info*
Were you happy with this month’s Ipsy Glam Bag?
Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Project Pan 12 Collab, Week 7 Review

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the 7th of 12 products for my Project Pan 12 collab with these lovely fellow bloggers:  Ingrid from CurlySpringBlossom, and Stashy from Stash Matters, and Chanelle from ChanelleHayleyyy!

Urban Decay Mini Palette in Urban Vices

PP12 Urban Decay Urban Vices

PP12 Urban Decay Urban Vices

I originally reviewed this mini palette from Urban Decay after Sephora’s V.I.B. sale last year. It comes with an eyeliner that I’ve been using daily since getting this palette, so it isn’t part of the PP12.

PP12 Urban Decay Urban Vices

As you can see, there are four shimmery shades – Dope (pale peach), Hoodoo (pale purple), Derailed (taupe grey metallic) and Smokeout (brown black).  Because there aren’t any matte shades in this palette, I find that I have to use it with other shadows in my collection.

PP12 Urban Decay Urban Vices

My favourite shades are Derailed, and Dope. I’ve been using this palette at least two or three times a week for seven weeks now, and there is barely a dent in it, mainly in my faves!

Update on the remaining 11 products:

Annabelle BigShow Waterproof Mascara

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the BigShow Waterproof Mascara from Annabelle Cosmetics, a Canadian brand!  Here’s what it says about the BigShow WP Mascara:

Dare to get the max volume effect with the new BigShow Waterproof mascara! Its volume-boosting waterproof formula, enriched with carnauba extract for a softening effect, delivers instant volume. Plus, its clump-free brush helps you avoid heavy lashes.

It also says that three coats will give 11X the volume.

Onto the review:

Annabella BigShow Waterproof Mascara

My lashes are long and stick straight. My eyes are sensitive so many mascaras tend irritate my eyes. That being said, I have seven requirements for a mascara:

1. waterproof

2. smudge-proof

3. non-flaking / non-clumping

4. must be DARK black (not blackish, not brown black, and definitely not grey black)

5. volumizing

6. must hold a curl

7. non-irritating to my sensitive eyes

Annabella BigShow Waterproof Mascara

So how does this mascara measure up to my seven requirements? I would say that this mascara is on par with my holy grail mascaras (Essence Cosmetics I ❤ Volume and Get Big Lashes Waterproof)! It meets all seven of my requirements! I just don’t think that it gives 11X the volume, but it does add a nice bit of volume to my lashes, even with just one or two coats. I never wear three coats of mascara, so maybe it really is the third coat that does it volume-wise.

I was hoping to do some swatching and photographing today, but thus far it is a dark and rainy day. Hope the sun comes out later!

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

IQ Natural Skincare Lavender Sugar Scrub

Hello, hello!

I was recently contacted by IQ Natural Skincare to see if I would like to review something from their bath and body line. As you all probably know, I love bath and body products, so I jumped at the chance to review the Lavender Sugar Scrub. IQ Natural Skincare uses natural and organic, sustainably grown ingredients, are cruelty free, and small batch produced.

Here’s what it says on the website about the Lavender Sugar Scrub:

Exfoliate skin all over body with this Lavender Argan Oil & Brown Sugar Body Scrub. Slough away dead skin and reveal and fresh Plump and smoother younger looking skin. Contains rich skin softening natural & organic olive and morrocan argan oils.

IQ Natural Skincare Lavender Sugar Scrub

Ingredients: Organic Brown Sugar, Olive Oil, Argan Oil, 10% Glycolic Acid, Essential Oils, Herbs, Honey.

Onto the review:

This is a lovely and moisturizing sugar scrub, and it is absolutely filled with lavender scented goodness! My skin was so soft and smooth after using it!

IQ Natural Skincare Lavender Sugar Scrub

I love that the ingredient list is so simple. I think that the argan oil is what makes this scrub so silky!

Disclosure: I was sent this product for testing and review purposes. My opinion is my own, based on my experience with the product.

Project Pan 12 – Week 6 Review

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the 6th of 12 products for my Project Pan 12 collab with these lovely fellow bloggers:  Ingrid from CurlySpringBlossom, and Stashy from Stash Matters, and Chanelle from ChanelleHayleyyy!

Nyx Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator in Gleam – deluxe sample size

Capture that sexy glow with our lightweight multi-functional illuminator. Use as a foundation base or over cheekbones décolletage or cupids bow for that refreshing luminosity that’ll have everyone talking.

I received this in a recent Ipsy Glam Bag, and really only started using it since starting the Project Pan 12 Collab. My favorite way to use this is to mix it into my foundation to give my skin an extra bit of luminosity. I really like this liquid highlighter. I’d actually like to try the sunbeam one which seems to be more of a silvery pink whereas gleam is more of a rose gold highlighter. I will probably end up buying a full size of either sunbeam or gleam if I manage to finish this sample. You only need the smallest amount for a subtle glow.

Update on the remaining 11 products:
