Hello, hello!
Today I have a review of the highly coveted Serum Foundation from The Ordinary.
Descriptions in italics are taken from their website:
Serum Foundations are lightweight medium-coverage formulations available in a comprehensive shade range across 21 shades. These foundations offer moderate coverage that looks natural with a very lightweight serum feel. They are very low in viscosity and are dispensed with the supplied pump or with the optional glass dropper available for purchase separately if preferred.
I chose shade 1.2P (light with pink undertones) and it seems to be a perfect match for my skintone. This Serum Foundation is very liquidy, and lightweight on the skin. I’d say that the coverage is closer to light than to medium, but it is probably buildable to a medium coverage. I prefer light coverage, so this works for me.
The pigments used in this format are treated for a rich, highly-saturated effect. These pigments are suspended in our proprietary spreadability system that allows pigments to look natural on the skin, resist collecting within fine lines and stay on for longer. The foundations offer a semi-matte finish and are compatible with most primers and are designed to work exceptionally well with the primers offering from The Ordinary.
This foundation gives my skin a very natural look, it evens out my skintone and doesn’t crease. I’ve tested it alone, with the High Spreadability Fluid Primer (review is here), with concealer, and with sunscreen. It plays well with everything that I’ve tried so far. The finish is very much semi-matte, and not a super flat matte.
I find that applying the foundation with my fingers and then blending out with either a sponge or a foundation brush gives me the best finish. If I apply directly with a sponge, I end up streaky and have to spend longer blending it out.
Serum Foundations sold in the European Union offer an SPF 15 claim. This protection is achieved without the use of chemical sunscreens and only through physical protection from Titanium Dioxide. Additionally, no nano-particles are used to achieve this sun protection. These attributes are unique in foundations because it is exceptionally difficult to create a natural, lightweight look and consistent shades when using only non-nano forms of Titanium Dioxide for sun protection without any chemical sunscreen agents.
I love that the foundation has SPF. Although in the summer I tend to wear higher than SPF 15, but some sunscreen is better than none. But I’ve been wearing my SPF 28 and 30 from MyChelle Dermaceuticals most days underneath the foundation.

I just feel like even if I’m having a bad skin day, a heavy product makes me look even more unhealthy and my skin mask like. I’d most likely need the lightest colour like you too. Will definitely add this to my to-buy listβΊ x

Really? I tend to be light with pinky undertones. It’s good they have a large range of shades x

So happy the color worked out well for you! I also love that there is additional physical sunscreen in the foundation.

It is such a good match! I’ll have to get a lighter shade for winter though!

Cries… everyone got their paws on this foundation and they’re still out of stock at the Deciem store! They said they won’t be back in stock until the end of June… which I guess is ok since I’m still on a no-buy until July… π
I was matched to 1.2N when I was at the store last weekend though. Good to learn that there’s SPF15 even though it’s not really called out on the product itself – and yay, it’s mineral sunscreen! I know there’s a lot of talk about nano-particles and zinc oxide but I don’t know too much about it. Have you looked into it?

Yes – nano particles supposedly increase free radical damage.

It really is a great match for me. Usually shades are either chalky pale or too pink or too yellow toned for me. This one blends in perfectly! π

I’ll have to try the finger application then use a sponge over the top method as well π

Lots of buzz on this one – I can’t believe how cheap it is. How did you find the wear time?

I’ve applied at at 8am and washed it off at 9pm, and other than some minimal t zone shine, it wears well for my normal to dry skin.
