Essence Volume Stylist 18h Curl & Hold Mascara Review

Hello, hello!

Today I have a mascara review from Essence Cosmetics – the Volume Stylist 18h curl & hold mascara. Info in italics taken from the package:

Essence Volume Stylist 18h

mascara for perfectly styled lashes, with micro styling waxes for voluminous and curved lashes, up to 18h hold. ophthalmologically approved.

Just a little about my lashes before getting into the review:

My lashes are long and stick straight, so I have to curl my lashes before I apply mascara or else it looks like I don’t have any lashes. As well, my eyes are sensitive so many mascaras irritate my eyes.

I have seven requirements for a mascara:

1. waterproof

2. smudge-proof

3. non-flaking / non-clumping

4. must be DARK black (not blackish, not brown black, and definitely not grey black)

5. volumizing

6. must hold a curl

7. non-irritating to my sensitive eyes

So how does this mascara rate according to my seven requirements?

It is not a waterproof formulation, but I’ve not experienced any problems due to my eyes watering, nor any smudging, so it is definitely water resistant despite not being waterproof. And no flaking either.

It can get a little clumpy if you don’t wipe excess mascara off the brush before applying – I always blot my brush, so it hasn’t been an issue for me, personally, but if you don’t then it probably will be a problem.

Colour-wise, it is a nice, deep, dark black.

It is volumizing and holds a curl for me. I really hate it when a mascara can’t hold a curl and my lashes fall flat a few hours after applying.

And after a month of use, I can definitely say that it does not irritate my eyes.

Overall, I would give this mascara a 6.5 out of 7, and will likely re-purchase this one!

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Disclosure: I purchased this!

  1. With every good thing I had bad thing to balance about this mascara. Flaked and definitely transfered on my brow bone. I looked in the mirror after a 8 hour shift (plus an hour of walking on heat) and when I looked in the mirror – it was really bad. And I didn’t had that problem with my previous mascara.
But, it’s different for evryone and godd that it worked for you.
    Have a good one 🙂

      1. Haven’t tried it but now that I’m reading your post about it, seems like a good mascara. The wand looks good too.
If you have access to Miss Sporty brand I recommend trying the „fabulous lash“ with curved brush (red packaging). It is inexpensive too. I’t my go-to mascara this past year (and maybe more). It is really black too 🙂
