Today I have a review of the Essence Instant Volume Boost Mascara that I’ve been testing out. Here’s what it says on the tube:
Power volume – smudge proof & intense black
Mascara for an extreme volume boost effect. Innovative fiber brush for an instant volume result within seconds. Opthamalogically approved.
My lashes are long and stick straight, so I have to curl my lashes before I apply mascara or else it looks like I don’t have any lashes. As well, my eyes are sensitive so many mascaras irritate my eyes. My eyes water easily, so smudge-proof mascara is a MUST.
I have seven requirements for a mascara:
1. waterproof
2. smudge-proof
3. non-flaking / non-clumping
4. must be DARK black (not blackish, not brown black, and definitely not grey black)
5. volumizing
6. must hold a curl
7. non-irritating to my sensitive eyes
How does the Instant Volume Boost Mascara measure up for me?
It is not waterproof, but is definitely smudge-proof. I haven’t had any problem with flaking, but if you don’t wipe the excess mascara off the brush before applying, it can get clumpy. I always remove the excess, so clumping is not a problem for me.
The mascara is super intense black, which is awesome, and I find it to be fairly volumizing and holds a curl. And, most importantly, it does not irritate my sensitive eyes.
I would rate this mascara as being on par with the False Lashes Mascara from Essence (reviewed here), which I gave a 6.75 out of 7.

You might like the False Lashes one, it is my current holy grail mascara.
The sensitivity risk is why I’ve been afraid of lash extensions.

YEAH it was fun xxx and it looked great but i couldn’t do it every two-3 weeks … too much

Ooh shame it’s not waterproof. I really like the look of the brush. The spiky plastic brushes annoy me.

Supposedly there is a waterproof formula. But even with my watery eyes, I haven’t had a problem with smudging!

I love a super black mascara too. I don’t think I’ve hesrd of this brand but it looks great. The brush is better as I never use mascaras with those new-fangled rubber brushes!

Never tried this one but maybelline & essence mascaras are of great quality👍👍

I think it’s the I Love Extreme non waterproof. I picked it up in Belgium but I’m sure that’s the name x

I love Tarte but I’m using their Lights Camera Lashes mascara and hate it! I needed a break from using it up and the budget Essence one worked 10x better! X

Glad you’ve found a couple of great mascaras from Essence! The packaging colours looks similar to The Falsies from Maybelline.

So far I like the sound of all the mascaras you’ve reviewed and this one is no exception. Except for the fact that I lost the list I had made haha. But this will be one of the ones I buy when I finally go through my stash. 🙂
