Petit Vour November 2018

Petit Vour is a cruelty-free and vegan monthly subscription box with four (occasionally five) products. The subscription is $18 USD a month in the US, $23 USD for Canada, and $25 USD for the rest of the world. With the exchange rate (@ 1.3447) my box cost me $30.93 CAD this month.

Petit Vour November 2018

Let’s take a closer look inside to see what I got this month:

Petit Vour November 2018

Donore Lip & Cheek Pod in  full size $22 USD

Petit Vour November 2018

The lip & cheek pod offers naturally vibrant colors blended with essential oils and Shea butter to moisturize, plump and condition lips. The organic lipstick is a long-lasting formula that provides maximum coverage with effortless application, leaving lips feeling soft and smooth all day. A hydrating formula loaded with antioxidants and is 100% natural lipstick with color derived from fruit pigment.

  • Bronzed Kiss –  a cappuccino, bronze color with subtle shimmer
  • Pretty in Pink – pink with subtle shimmer
  • Cherry Bomb – a matte, cherry red
  • Dragonberry Royale – a matte berry
  • Tiger Melon – vibrant coral pink with a hint of shimmer

The Lip & Cheek Pod doesn’t say which shade it is, but I’m guessing that it is the shade Tiger Melon. It looks pretty, I can’t wait to try it out!

Metta Comforting Hand Balm sample size $11 USD, full size (60ml) $22 USD

Petit Vour November 2018

A deeply comforting vegan blend of certified organic fairly traded shea butter olive oil and calendula extract formulated to leave your hands feeling soft and moisturized. Suitable for all skin types.

Petit Vour November 2018

My hands get SO DRY in the winter, so this will be well used!

Evolvh Ultimate Styling Lotion, sample size (2oz) $11 USD, full size (8.5oz) $28 USD

Petit Vour November 2018

This 5-in-1 botanical formula truly does everything: creates volume, holds style, de-frizzes, adds shine, or defines curls into smooth ringlets. Its an all-in-one amazingly lightweight lotion.

  • Offers medium level of hold
  • De-frizzes and conditions
  • Can be used on wet or dry hair
  • Manages curls (for soft, smooth and bouncy ringlets)

I really liked the Evolvh Shampoo and Conditioner in last month’s box, so I am happy to try this styling lotion. This sounds perfect for my hair since it de-frizzes and conditions.

My Daughter Fragrances in Joyful Perfume, sample size (1ml) $2, full size (1.78oz / 50ml) $85 USD

Petit Vour November 2018

Joyful is a fragrant love letter of orange flower, lime blossom, rose, jasmine and creamy sandalwood. Fresh and floral lovers rejoice!

Joyful sounds like a nice scent blend, I’m hoping that the jasmine note is subtle as I’m not usually a fan of jasmine.

Petit Vour November 2018

The total value of this month’s box is $46 USD which works out to $61.85 CAD with the exchange rate that I paid for the box.

What do you think of this month’s box?

Les Secrets de Sothys / Sothys Secrets Gift Set Review

Hello, hello! I recently received a beautiful gift set from Sothys Canada / PozPub of the new Les Secrets de Sothys / Sothys Secrets which contains La Crème (Cream) as well as La Creme Yeux-Lèvres (Eye and Lip Cream) from the Prestige / Premium line. I have reviewed the Crème Jeunesse from their regular line and used it all last winter. [info in italics taken from Sothys website and from the booklet included in the gift set]

Les Secrets de Sothys / Sothys Secrets - La Crème and La Crème Yeux-Lèvres

Les Secrets de Sothys line is made with “latest-generation active ingredients for a complete resolution that protects and visibly reveals the skin’s youthfulness”. Let’s take a look at the science behind the products:

  1. To visibly preserve youthfulness via Telomere Innovation (DNA sequences) with Red Algae, rich in Linear Galactanes to preserve cellular longevity, and via Vitagene Innovation with Peach Leaf Glucans to strengthen the skin’s natural defences.
  2. To visibly reveal youthful skin via Double Action Innovation on Lox Protein  and Intracellular Glycation and Cytoskeleton Innovation with Extract of Retinol-Like Chicory and Hypnea Algae Rich in Galactanes for skin structure (epidermis and dermis) and elasticity.

Packaging:

Les Secrets de Sothys / Sothys Secrets - La Crème and La Crème Yeux-Lèvres

The packaging of the gift set is beautiful, with a double door opening and a black velvet flocked interior. The plastic jars are heavy and look beautiful.

Les Secrets de Sothys / Sothys Secrets - La Crème and La Crème Yeux-Lèvres

La Creme / The Cream:

Les Secrets de Sothys / Sothys Secrets - La Crème

This exceptional youth skincare reveals some of its secrets as soon as it is applied: its wonderful active texture forms a biomimetic satin film with a lifting effect on the skin’s surface and its delicate fragrance is an invitation to a feeling of well-being.

Day after day, this universal cream treats the skin to a complete action on youth to combat the visible signs of ageing. Record efficiency, day after day: – Smoothing: +37% (experimental scoring*) – Improved firmness: +30% (clinical measurements using a cutometer*) * on 20 people after 30 days of twice daily application

SothysSecrets7

This cream is super rich, but fast absorbing, great for normal to dry skin. I think that it might be too a little  heavy if you have oily skin. It leaves the skin with a very satiny feeling and seems to plump out / blur fine lines and wrinkles as it smooths the skin. It can be used as both a day cream and a night cream.

The Cream, however, is a little more scented than I prefer, but the scent does fade to nothing very quickly. It is a peachy, slightly floral scent. Thankfully it does not trigger a reaction in my sensitive skin.

La Crème Yeux-Lèvres / Eye and Lip Cream:

Les Secrets de Sothys / Sothys Secrets - La Crème Yeux-Lèvres / Eye and Lip Cream

This balm with a melting texture creates a smoothing film on the skin’s surface, bringing about a feeling of comfort and an immediate lift effect in the eye and lip contour.

Day after day, this 2-in-1 formula targets the specific problems of these two areas of the face which are extremely sensitive to ageing. Results that are visible: Number of wrinkles: -30% after 15 days and -38% after 30 days* Dark circles: -25% after 30 days** Puffiness: -17% after 30 days** * Instrumental measurements. Average results on the eye contour from 21 people after twice-daily use. ** Expert scoring. Average results on the eye contour from 21 people after twice-daily use.

Les Secrets de Sothys / Sothys Secrets - La Crème Yeux-Lèvres / Eye and Lip Cream

Now this targeted eye and lip cream is super rich. I’ve mostly only been using it as an eye cream, and it does help with fine lines and puffiness. It does help to brighten the undereye area somewhat, but I until I use it for a longer time, I won’t comment on dark circle effectiveness.

The Eye and Lip Cream plays nicely with my Becca Brightening Undereye Concealer, and  it does not have any added fragrance – which I like a lot – which means that it does not irritate my sensitive eyes.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Disclosure: PR samples, however my opinion is based on my personal experience of using the products.

My Highlighter Stash

Hello, hello!

Since the Holiday Season is rapidly approaching, I thought I’d share my highlighter collection with you all, since the Holiday’s are a great time to sparkle and shine!

I’ll be showing you my highlighter stash and linking to the original reviews.

Highlighter Stash - Nyx, Essence and Kani Beauty

Nyx Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder in Lavender Steel – I’d recently re-discovered this highlighter in my stash. Because it is so cool toned it is perfect for this time of year! Review is here.

Essence Bloom Me Up Shimmer Powder in Rose It Up – This is an oldie in my collection. If I don’t start to use it more, I’m going to de-stash it. I used to use it daily but as I added more highlighters to my collection, I kind of forgot about it. Review is here.

Nyx Born To Glow Liquid Illuminator in Gleam – Another forgotten gem in my stash. This is over two years old and will be de-stashed as I don’t like to keep liquid formulations around for a long time. Review is here.

Kani Botanicals Prismatic Highlighter in Rose Quartz – this is the newest highlighter in my collection, it came in my October Petit Vour Box, very icy in tone, perfect for winter! Review is here.

Highlighter Stash - ColourPop, Soap + Glory, Nomad, Maison Jacynthe

ColorPop SuperShock Cheeks in Stole The Show – Another one of my favourite highlighters, so wearable! Review is here.

Soap and Glory Glow All Out Cheek Stick in Ice Shimmer – I won this in a giveaway back in December 2016, this is starting to dry out, so I will de-stash it. Review is here.

Nomad Illuminating Highlighter in Midnight Sun – I never did a full review fo this one, but it is very similar in tone to the Maison Jacynthe one. It is super small, so great for travel! First impressions here.

Maison Jacynthe Illuminator in Sparkling Sun* – This is one of my favourite highlighters, it can be worn for a subtle glow, or for a full on glow effect. I probably use this one the most! Review is here.

Highlighter Stash - Mica Beauty, ColourPop

Mica Beauty Highlighting Powder in #3 – This one is super golden. I don’t use it often as a highlighter because it is so intense, but I do like to use it as an eye shadow! First impressions is here.

ColourPop SuperShock Cheeks in Butterfly Beach – I can use this one as either a highlighter or as a bronzer depending on how much I use / how much I blend it out. I tend to use this one more in the summer, as I’m super pale in the winter so it takes a lot of blending to make it work for me this time of year. Review is here.

Do you have any of these highlighters? What is your fave highlighter?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Alba Botanica Natural Hawaiian Body Cream Review

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the Natural HawaiianBody Cream by Alba Botanica. I’ve previously reviewed the Body Oil. [info in italics taken from well.ca]

Alba Botanica Hawaiian Body Cream

Signature ingredient: An excellent source of linoleic and linolenic fatty acids, kukui nut oil is packed with fast-penetrating nutrients essential for healthy skin.

Product description: Tropical nut oils rich in essential fatty acids blended in a rich, luxurious body cream to soften, soothe and smooth rough, dry, flaky skin.

Alba Botanica Hawaiian Body Cream

Features and benefits: Blending vanilla, cucumber and arnica extracts, with oils of kukui, macadamia, and safflower plus shea and cocoa butters, our Kukui Nut Body Cream penetrates deep and is absorbed quickly, holding in critical moisture without leaving excess oil.

Alba Botanica Hawaiian Body Cream

This is supposed to be Body Cream, but texture-wise it is more of a super rich, body butter. It is beautiful, and thick, super luxurious without feeling heavy or greasy!

The scent is nutty and sweet like the Body Oil – I love the scent!

So amazing for keeping the winter coldness from completely drying my skin out!

And the kicker – I paid $6.99 CAD for it (at Provigo / Loblaws)!

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Disclosure: I purchased this.

Nyx Machinist Ignite Palette Review

Hello, hello!

Nyx Machinist Palette - Ignite

A few days ago, I reviewed two of the Ignite Lip Products from the recently launched Machinist Collection (inspired by Steampunk) and today I’m swatching and reviewing the Nyx Ignite Eyeshadow Palette from the collection. There are three palettes in the Machinist Collection – Grind, Steam and Ignite [info in italics taken from the Nyx Canada website]

Nyx Machinist Palette - Ignite

I don’t buy eyeshadow palettes very often because I have a fairly large collection of single shadows, but this palette had some shades that I didn’t already own.

Nyx Machinist Palette - Ignite

Kick your look into high gear with our limited-edition Machinist Shadow Palette. Available in three steampunk-inspired color combos, the Grind, Steam and Ignite collections all include 12 highly pigmented tones that breathe new life into this retro-futuristic fantasy. Mix and match each amaze assortment of cool and warm metals with bold mattes to create an amped up effect. From grungy romantic to vintage beauty, all you need is a spark of inspiration to make the mood your own.

Now onto the swatches, and my thoughts on each (faves will be marked with *). The shades do not have names, only numbers – so I’ll do them in order.

First row – shades 1 through 4:

Nyx Machinist Palette - Ignite

Shade 1 – matte.  I had to swatch this light cream shade heavily to make it visible on my pale skin. This one is great as a base shadow, or a browbone highlight.

Shade 2* – metallic. I love this taupe shade, been wearing it a lot! It looks even nicer on the eye than it does in the swatch.

Shade 3* – metallic. I have similar copper toned shades in my collection, but I really like this one as well. Copper tones work really well with my blue eyes.

Shade 4* – matte. This was one of the shades that drew me into this palette as I don’t own a similar shade. Love love love this one!

Second row, shades 5 through 8:

Nyx Machinist Palette - Ignite

Shade 5 – metallic. This shade is a letdown, it is such a pretty bronze shade in the palette, but applies horribly (even with primer).

Shade 6 – matte. I have similar shades in my collection, but it applies nicely.

Shade 7* – matte. This is one of the shades that drew me to the palette. I love this one in the crease.

Shade 8* – metallic. This was another one of the shades that drew me to the palette as I don’t already own a dupe for it.

Third row, shades 9 through 12:

Nyx Machinist Palette - Ignite

Shade 9* – matte. I love this shade a lot. I don’t already have a similar shade in my collection. I love this one as a crease shade!

Shade 10* – matte. Another great shade, I like this one for my outer corner or as a liner. I need to play with this shade more.

Shade 11 – metallic. This metallic shade takes a little extra time to make it work. It swatches more brown in tone that it looks in the pan.

Shade 12 – metallic. This is similar to many shades in my collection, I know I’ll use it.

Nyx Machinist Palette - Ignite

Overall: The matte shades are all great, but the metallic shades are hit and miss. Some are good (shades 2, 3 and 8), some are just ok (shades 11 and 12), and one is terrible (shade 5).

Since I started writing this review a few days ago, I have discovered that the metallic shades are a lot more workable if you use a wet brush application. This is not something that I would do for an every day look, but would take the extra time if I was doing a full on glam look.

What do you think of this palette? Have you tried the other two (Grind and Steam) from the Machinist Collection?

Nyx is cruelty free, but their parent company is not.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Nyx Machinist Collection – The Lip Products Reviews

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing two of the lip products from Nyx’s recent Machinist Collection (inspired by Steampunk). The Machinist Collection has three themes: Grind, Steam and Ignite. There are two lip products for each of the three themes – the Machinist Lipstick and the Machinist Lip Lacquer. I purchased both in the Ignite shades. [info in italics taken from the Nyx Canada website]

The Lipstick:

Nyx Machinist Lipstick in Ignite

Stud those lips in shimmery color using our limited-edition Machinist Lipstick. This comfortably creamy formula is loaded with ultra-fine pearls that add over-the-top luster to your pout. Available in honey bronze, copper and bronze—representing the Grind, Steam and Ignite facets of our Machinist collection, respectively—these high-coverage lippies are the perf accessories.

Nyx Machinist Lipstick in Ignite

The Ignite shade of the Lipstick is a dark, vampy, metallic bronze shade. In the tube it looks like it would be more wine toned, but on me it pulls more brown. I do find it a little on the drying side, not terribly so – comparable to a mildly drying matte lipstick. I find that most metallic lipstick shades feel like when I wear them.

Nyx Machinist Lipstick in Ignite

The Lip Lacquer:

Nyx Machinist Lip Lacquer in Ignite

Go full steam ahead with Machinist Lip Lacquer. This limited-edition lippie is the Slip Tease Full Color Lip Lacquer you know and love—now in steampunk-inspired shades! Available in wine (Grind), blue (Steam) and nude (Ignite), each grungy tone adds a glossy touch to the Grind, Steam and Ignite facets of our Machinist collection. This perfectly plush lippie goes on silky-smooth and provides full coverage.

Nyx Machinist Lip Lacquer in Ignite

The Ignite shade of the Lip Lacquer is a very wearable nude shade that is super comfortable on the lips – and surprisingly long wearing for a glossy finish liquid lipstick. I’ve been wearing this one a LOT lately!

*In the photo below I’ve swatched the Lip Lacquer rather thick to show the colour*

Nyx Machinist Lip Lacquer in Ignite

I’ve also been testing out one of the Machinist Palettes – swatches and review to follow in a few days.

Have you tried anything from the Machinist Collection?

Nyx is cruelty free, however their parent company is not.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Disclosure: I purchased these things.

Pacifica Quinoa Sensitive Super Gentle Face Wash Review

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review of the Quinoa Sensitive Super Gentle Face Wash from Pacifica that I recently purchased from well.ca. [info in italics taken from the Pacifica website]

Pacifica Quinoa Sensitive Super Gentle Face Wash

Fortified with quinoa, sunflower seed oil and calendula, this foaming wash helps you get rid of the junk that blocks your beauty from radiating. Perfect foaming action helps gently lift dirt and debris to the surface so you can cleanse, remove dirt, makeup and even pollutants while helping balance. Calendula and aloe are great for even the most sensitive skin types.

Pacifica Quinoa Sensitive Super Gentle Face Wash

This cleanser is so gentle, and you only need the smallest amount – it foams up amazingly well! This is perfect for the most sensitive skins (unless you have an allergy or intolerance to one of the ingredients).

It works really well to remove makeup (except for waterproof mascara), and rinses clean without leaving my skin feeling dry or irritated. It works really well to calm the skin.

Mai Couture Bamboo Charcoal Blotting Paper Review

Mai Couture Bamboo Charcoal Blotting Sheets

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review of the Bamboo Charcoal Blotting Paper from Mai Couture that came in my October Petit Vour box. [info in italics taken form Petit Vour website]

Mai Couture Bamboo Charcoal Blotting Sheets

Help absorb skin impurities and toxins with Mai Couture’s Bamboo Charcoal Blotting Papier. Effective at drawing out pollutants, bamboo charcoal absorbs bacteria, toxins, and micro-particles from the skin. Contains 60 tear-away sheets.

Ingredients 100% Cruelty-Free and Vegan | Bleached Kraft Softwood Pulp, Hemp Pulp, Calcium Carbonate, Bamboo Charcoal

Mai Couture Bamboo Charcoal Blotting Sheets

These are probably geared more towards oily skin types, but my nose tends to get a little shiny sometimes, so I’ve been stashing this pack of blotting paper in my bag for days when I have meetings all day for a quick touch-up.

Mai Couture Bamboo Charcoal Blotting Sheets

I don’t know how much detoxing these sheets will actually do, but they do absorb excess oil and shine without disturbing my makeup.

Do you use blotting paper?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Disclosure: This came in my Petit Vour subscription that I pay for.

Formulary 55 Rosehip & Clay Facial Mask Review

Formulary 55 Rosehip & Clay Facial Mask

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the Rosehip & Clay Facial Mask from Formulary 55 that came in my October Petit Vour box. [info in italics taken from the Petit Vour website]

Formulary 55 Rosehip & Clay Facial Mask

Detoxify and soften naturally with this gentle pink clay facial mask. This blend will draw out toxins without over drying the skin. Suitable for all skin types.

Formulary 55 Rosehip & Clay Facial Mask

This facial mask has minimal ingredients, making it a good option for sensitive and other skin types – unless you have an allergy or sensitivity to one of the ingredients.

Formulary 55 Rosehip & Clay Facial Mask

Ingredients 100% Cruelty-Free and Vegan | French white and pink clay, rosehip powder, ground comfrey root, and organic rose geranium essential oil

Formulary 55 Rosehip & Clay Facial Mask

I am a huge fan of facial masks, I love that this one is in powder form as it means less packaging. Another benefit to a powder formulation is that it gives you the choice of what type of liquid to add to the powder to mix with your mask.

This mask performs similarly to most clay based masks, it feels tight as it dries – but my skin felt so clean, and not at all irritated or dried out after removing. All in all, I think that this is a great facial mask.

Do you like clay based facial masks?

Disclosure: This came in my Petit Vour subscription that I pay for.
