Monthly Empties March 2019 – Part 2

March Empties - Skincare

Hello, hello!

Today I have the second part of my Monthly Empties – all my skincare finishes. Part one was all of my bath and haircare empties. And I will comment on if I will be purchasing or not, and link to my original reviews.

Let’s take a look:

March Empties - Skincare

Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser Sample – I got this as a free sample in my last well.ca order. The sample was too small for a full review, but I liked it enough that I want to buy the full size to really test it out.

Nova Scotia Fisherman Sea Kelp Lip Balms x2 – I finished one and the Mister finished the other. Great lip balm for winter. I have a ton of lip balms in my stash, so I have no plans on repurchasing for awhile. Review is here.

MyChelle Dermaceuticals Sun Shield Unscented SPF 28, and Sun Shield Clear Stick SPF 50  *These were PR Samples* I loved these sunscreens, and thankfully they both were nearly finished when I discovered that they were past their expiration dates. I have other sunscreen to use up, so no plans to purchase replacements at this time, but I would highly recommend their sunscreens, as they’re non-greasy and worked well for my sensitive skin. Reviews are here and here.

March Empties - Skincare

Bite Beauty Lip Balm – Another great lip balm, although I prefer their Lip Mask. Again, no plans to repurchase right now, I have a stash of lip balms to use up. Review is here.

Metta Comforting Hand Balm – This was a lifesaver for the winter months! It came in my Petit Vour subscription, and I’m sad that I finished it already. This is going on my wishlist for the fall since I don’t need a heavy duty hand cream in the warmer months. Review is here.

Aromatherapy Associates Hydrating Revitalizing Face Oil – Another Petit Vour subscription sample. This was a nice facial oil – hydrating but not heavy or greasy. I’ve no plans to purchase, as I have several facial oils in my stash to use up. Review is here.

March Empties - Skincare

Poetic Blend The Warrior Serum – I won this in an InstaGram giveaway. This serum is one of the best facial serums that I’ve ever used! My skin LOVED it. I’m hoping to buy a replacement soon. Review is here.

Little Barn Apothecary Aloe + Rosewater Balancing Mist – Another one from my Petit Vour subscription. I love facial mists, especially rose based ones. I have two more in my stash to use up, so no plans to buy a full size right now. Review is here.

So there you have it, I’m pretty happy to have finished up more things from my stash.

Thanks for reading

Empties and De-Stashing September 2018

Hello, hello!

Today I have my empties for September as well as few things that I’m de-stashing because I’ve had them for way too long.

Empties (and whether or not I’ll be re-purchasing):

Empties - September 2018

I didn’t finish up that much this month, but am so close to finishing several things, so I’m sure that I’ll have more in next month’s empties.

Sothys Crème Jeunesse / Youth Cream sample – original review is here. I still have one more sample tube in my stash to use up. (PR sample)

Essence I ❤ Extreme Volume Mascara Waterproof – original review is here, already re-purchased.

Formulary 55 Sea Clay Body Mask – review is here. I won’t be re-purchasing this as my skin reacted to it. (Petit Vour subscription)

MyChelle Dermaceuticals Replenishing Solar Defence SPF 30 – review is here. I don’t need to purchase any replacement sunscreen right now, I have another tube of SPF 28 from MyChelle to finish up, as well as LASpa SPF 20 and SPF 30 in my stash, so I’m set for sunscreen for awhile. (PR sample)

De-stashing Lip Products:

De-Stash Lip September 2018

I finally went through all of my lipsticks to see if any of them have started to go off or dry out, and had to cull a few.

Trèstique Mini Matte Lip Crayon in the shade Belize Bordeaux – The cover came off so it dried out. (Ipsy Glam Bag)

Clove + Hallow Lip Glaze in Candied Hearts – The only reason that I’m de-stashing this is because I broke the casing and now it is leaking. I’m kind of sad about this because I really liked it. (Petit Vour subscription) Review

Hourglass Icon Mini –  this has been in my stash for a long time, it is a gorgeous red, but it has begun to dry out. (Giveaway Prize)

Too Faced Melted Chocolate in Chocolate Honey –  it has gone off. It smells gross. (Generation Beauty Toronto 2016) Review

Soap + Glory Sexy Mother Pucker in Plumble – Sadly it got lost in my stash, and has now started to thicken terribly. I do remember loving it though. (Giveaway Prize) Review

Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint in Rosé – I never wear it, although it is pretty, it makes me look like a corpse. (Ipsy Glam Bag, I think)

ColourPop Lippie Stix in Lady, Go Fish and Yasmin – I got these back in July 2015, and they have gotten dry. Review

Eyeliner / Brow Pencil De-stash:

De-Stash Eye September 2018

Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Rocky Mountain Green – the cap was knocked off, so this one got dried out so badly. I really loved this beautiful green pencil. Review

Essence Eyebrow Designer Pencil – another one that got dried out from the cap coming off.

Trèstique Mini Highlight Stick – I rarely ever used this one, and it has dried out. (Ipsy Glam Bag)

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper –  I probably haven’t used this eyeliner since 2016, so it is beyond dried out. (Giveaway Prize)

Did you finish up much this month? DO you plan on doing a de-clutter / de-stash any time soon?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Disclosure: All PR items and Giveaway Prize Winnings identified. Everything else was purchased by me.

EiR NYC Sunset Oil Review

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review of the Sunset Oil from EiR NYC that came in my May Petit Vour subscription box. [info in italics taken from the Petit Vour website]

Petit Vour May 2018 Unboxing

An essential for beach bums, this arnica and aloe-infused body oil contains soothing essential oils and vitamins to restore parched skin damaged by the sun, salt, and wind. For everyday use or to be applied post-sun to keep skin extra-moisturized.

The Review: I’ve been using the EiR NYC Sunset Oil since it arrived when I get out of the shower or bath because it smells amazing and my skin is so smooth and hydrated after using! It keeps my legs moisturized all day! I really like this body oil!

Price-wise the full size bottle is $35 USD for 8 oz –  it is little on the spendy side, but not outrageously so as a little goes a long way. My sample was 1 oz, and I’ve gotten several uses out of it, and still have at least one of two uses left before I finish it!

Ingredients 100% Cruelty-Free and Vegan | Olive Oil,  Sweet Almond Oil, *Coconut Oil, *Arnica, *Calendula-infusion, Jojoba Oil, *Aloe Vera, Vitamin E,  Lavender, Rose, Geranium and *Chamomille, Essential Oil Blend, *Rosemary Extract. | *Certified Organic Ingredients

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Vita Liberata Fabulous Self Tanning Gradual Lotion with Marula Oil Review

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review of the Vita Liberata Fabulous Self Tanning Gradual Lotion with Marula Oil. For the record, I’m quite fair, on the ghostly end of the skintone spectrum. My skin is capable of tanning – just not by most people’s standards of “tan” and very slowly – the running joke is that my skin goes from shock white to almost beige.

Vita Liberata Self Tanning Gradual Lotion

The last time I tried a self tanner was years and years before I switched to cruelty free products, and the result was muddy, streaky and WAY TOO DARK. I figured that a gradual lotion would be the best option for me as I want a subtle, and ideally natural looking, result.  I just want is to tone down the shock white of my legs, since I live in shorts and skirts as soon as the weather gets warm enough.

My goal for using this self tanner is not to achieve a dark tan, I want to reduce the blinding whiteness of my legs! The rest of my body (other than my face) will tan very slightly over the summer while wearing loads and loads of sunscreen. ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN!

Vita Liberata Self Tanning Gradual Lotion

What it is: A superbly hydrating lotion that applies clear like a moisturizer and then develops to a beautiful sunkissed glow that can be deepened with daily use.

If you want to know more… This ultra-hydrating lotion formula is gentle enough for dry and sensitive skin types, and creates a natural-looking tan that fades after four to seven days. Certified organic botanicals and a moisture locking system nourish the skin and give 72-hour hydration while Odour Remove™ technology ensures no smell whatsoever.

Vita Liberata Self Tanning Gradual Lotion

To prep for using the Self Tanning Gradual Lotion, I made sure to exfoliate and moisturize in the days leading up to using the lotion to try to make sure that my skin wasn’t super dry.

Application – Sunday May 13th – I thought that I applied it evenly, and let it soak in before putting on a pair of shorts. After a few hours, I realized that yes, it was working, my skin was becoming less pale! And several hours after that I realized that I had not applied the Self Tanning Gradual Lotion as evenly as I had hoped – there was a streak of skin that remained shock white. Oops!

Result – Monday, May 14th – I showered and exfoliated and the streak is no longer visible, and my legs still have a bit of a glow.  It was at this point that I realized that you are supposed to shower the lotion off after several hours (4 to 8 hours, and if you are naturally pale, leave longer before showering). Oops, I waited until I showered the next day!

My “tan” lasted for several days before it gradually faded away. I exfoliated and reapplied the Self Tanning Gradual Lotion  for the second time on Monday, May 21st. I was a little more careful in applying this time, and it looks a lot better! On me, the tan is very golden in tone.

I’m really glad that I purchased the gradual version, because I think that the regular one would likely be too dark for me! This is perfect, it just looks like I have a very light tan on my legs. I probably won’t apply it again until it starts to fade, and just try to keep my legs this colour all summer.

Vita Liberata Self Tanning Gradual Lotion

The Self Tanning Gradual Lotion is surprisingly mildly scented. It doesn’t bother me at all. And it is super hydrating!

Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Water*, Dihydroxyacetone**, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Panthenol, Disodium EDTA, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter (Beurre)*, Saccharide Isomerate*, Tocopheryl Acetate, Cucumis Melo (Melon) Fruit Extract, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Hyaluronic Acid, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Fucus Vesicolosus (Bladderwrack) Extract*, Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Oil, Litchi Chinensis (Lychee) Fruit Extract, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Seed Extract*, Hydrolysed Silk (Soie), Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Extract*.

Have you tried this gradual self tanning lotion? Do you use self-tanners?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Disclosure: I purchased this!

LASPA Sun Care Naturals – Mineral Sunscreen Review

Hello, hello!

Spring has finally arrived in Montreal, so it is a perfect time for a review of two new mineral sunscreens from LASPA Sun Care Naturals! I was sent an absolutely gorgeous PR package from PK Communications / LASPA.

LASPA is a Canadian company that specializes in natural suncare products, more specifically mineral sunscreens.

LASPA

LASPA Naturals

So what exactly is a mineral sunscreen and what are the benefits of using mineral sunscreens instead of chemical sunscreens? [info in italics taken from the LaSpa website and press release (Apr 23, 2018)]

Sunscreens use either a physical or chemical filter to protect your skin from the sun’s rays. Zinc Oxide (as used by LASPA) and Titanium Dioxide are natural mineral sun blocks that sit on your skin and stop both UVA and UVB rays from penetrating your skin. Chemical sunscreens use synthetic chemicals to reflect the sun’s rays after they have penetrated the skin’s surface

LASPA Naturals

Benefits:

  •  Zinc Oxide provides a broad spectrum protection against both UVA/UVB rays whereas chemical filters don’t necessarily provide this function
  • Zinc Oxide is effective immediately upon application, whereas chemical filters need approximately 20 minutes to be absorbed
  • Zinc Oxide reduces or eliminates the risk of allergies or skin irritation that can be caused by the chemicals used in chemical sun filters
  • Zinc Oxide avoids the risk of health issues that have been documented concerning the cumulative effects of chemical sunscreen ingredients on reproductive health

As you can see in the beautiful box, I received two different mineral sunscreens – The Daily Sun Protection Mineral Sunscreen SPF 20 and the Moisturizing Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30. As, well there was a shower pouffe, and a hair cord – both of which went into immediate use!

LASPA Naturals

LASPA Mineral Suncare is made from 100% natural source ingredients which are clinically tested, broad spectrum UVA/ UVB protection, hypoallergenic, and are fragrance / paraben / gluten / nut free, have recyclable / biodegradable packaging, and are water / sweat resistant.

The LASPA line is formulated with sensitive skin in mind, but I still did my usual skin patch test. After 24 hours and no issue, I began testing out both sunscreens – I tested the SPF 20 on my body, and the SPF 30 on my face and neck.

LASPA Moisturizing Mineral Sunscreen Sensitive Skin SPF 30 (80ml / 2.7 fl oz) $40 CAD

LASPA Naturals

Light and translucent, this all natural Zinc based sunscreen lotion is perfect for protecting and moisturizing sensitive skin. Used as a daily regimen, it counteracts the aging and damaging affects of the sun rays and uses antioxidants to protect your skin.

This mineral sunscreen is formulated for the face and neck. I was really surprised that this sunscreen did not have the scent or white cast normally associated with zinc oxide based sunscreens. I’ve worn this on it own, with concealer and powder, and with my normal full makeup routine. It plays nicely with my makeup! It is light and does not make my skin feel heavy or greasy!

INGREDIENTS: Zinc Oxide 20%, NON-MEDICINAL INGREDIENTS: beeswax, bisabolol, caprylic/capric triglyceride, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, copernicia cerifera (carnauba) wax, isoamyl cocoate, persea gratissima (avocado) oil, tocopherols

LASPA Daily Sun Protection Lotion SPF 20 (125ml / 4.2 fl oz) $44 CAD

LASPA Naturals

Used as a daily regime for under makeup or all over body, it moisturizes the skin with organic coconut oil, and counteracts the aging and damaging effect of the sun rays with vitamin E.

I tested the Daily Sun Protection Lotion SPF 20 on my body. It is highly moisturizing, and goes on silky, almost – but not quite – greasy, until it is absorbed into the skin! Like the Moisturizing Mineral Sunscreen, it does not have any scent, nor does it have a white cast. It will be well used this spring and summer!

INGREDIENTS:  Zinc Oxide 14%, NON-MEDICINAL INGREDIENTS: beeswax, bisabolol, caprylic/capric triglyceride, certified organic cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, copernicia cerifera (carnauba) wax, isoamyl cocoate, persea gratissima (avocado) oil, tocopherols

I am sure that you know that sunscreen should ALWAYS be worn to reduce your risk of skin cancer, but I’m telling you again! As an added bonus, you will reduce early aging caused by UV exposure (wrinkles, sunspots). Please wear sunscreen!

LASPA is currently available at spas and resorts all across Canada, and you can also find it online at beautysense.

Thank you PK Communications and LASPA Naturals for one of the most beautiful PR packages that I’ve received thus far!

Thanks for reading, have a beautiful day, and please remember to apply your sunscreen!

Disclosure: In case you totally missed it at the beginning of my blog post, this review contains PR samples. My sensitive skin and opinions are entirely my own.
