Empties February 2019

Hello, hello!

It’s once again time to show you what I’ve managed to finish up from my stash. Let’s take a look and I’ll link reviews and let you know if I’ve already re-purchased, or if I plan to re-purchase in the future. Let’s take a look:

Empties February 2019 - Lowen's, Joik

Lowen’s Shampoo is Betta (*PR Sample) – This shampoo is awesome! It lathers really well and makes my hair and scalp feel so clean. The full size is going on my wishlist as I have a few shampoos to use up form my stash. Review is here.

Lowen’s Rub It In Why Don’t Ya! Face, Hand & Body Lotion (*PR sample) – Another favourite! I was using this after every shower and bath. So good for dry winter skin. Another one to add to my wishlist as I have a few body butters, and lotions to use up. Review is here.

Joik Micellar Water – I bought this when visiting Tallinn, Estonia (summer 2017). It didn’t work well for my face, as I found it to leave a soapy film, but it worked amazingly well for cleaning up arm swatches! Review is here.

Empties February 2019 - Wet n Wild, Nip + Fab

Nip + Fab Viper Venom Eye Fix – This worked great for de-puffing my under-eyes, but lately I found that I needed a little more hydration. This would be more of a summer product for me. I won’t be re-buying right now, I have two or three eye creams / serums to use up. Review is here.

Wet n Wild Ultimatebrow Retractable Brow Pencil – Thus far, this is my holy grail brow pencil! I have already purchased a replacement. So quick and easy to use. Review is here.

I also did a little decluttering in my eye and lip liner stash – these ones are quite old, so it is time to get rid of them. I have so many liners in my stash.

Empties February 2019 - Crown Brush, Absolute New York, Urban Decay

Crown Brush Kohl Pencil in Sea Green K-48 (*Freebie from the Crown Brush booth, Generation Beauty, Toronto 2016) – I didn’t love this one, it was dry and was not long wearing, so I never reached for it. The colour is really nice though. Review is here.

Absolute New York Duo Stroke Liquid Liner (*Gift Bag Swag from Generation Beauty, Toronto 2016) – I actually cannot recall the last time that I used this. I remember liking it a lot, but I rarely wear liquid liner any more. Review is here.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil in Venom – I got this lip liner several years ago (even before I had started blogging), and it was lost in my stash for quite some time, and sadly has dried out.

I have a few more eye and lip liners to check and possibly declutter, so there might be more in next month’s empties.

Ipsy Glam Bag Unboxing and First Impressions August 2017

Hello, hello!

Today I’m unboxing my Ipsy Glam Bag for August – it arrived on the 17th, the same day that I returned home from my vacation. All info in italics is taken from the Ipsy website.

Here’s what was in this month’s bag:

The Balm Voyage Vol. 2 Shadow in Kuwakaribisha

  • Our fave new way to get glowing: this pale peachy powder is super pigmented, shimmery but not sparkly, and is totally buildable (in case you want your highlight to be extra extra).
  • We apply this underneath our brow bones and at the inner corners of our eyes whenever we need to wake things up a lil bit (AKA every day).
  • Looking for a neutral eyeshadow to balance out cat eyes, cut creases, and all that fun stuff? Look no further.

Ipsy Glam Bag Aug 2017

This is a really pretty shadow / luminizer, so I’m happy to add it to my single shadow collection! *Cruelty free*

Naked Cosmetics HD Finishing Transluscent Powder

  • This finely milled powder is super lightweight so you’ll never look chalky or cakey.
  • We dusted it on before heading to ipsy HQ in the AM and our foundation looked mysteriously good all day. It definitely helps lengthen the wear of other makeup.
  • You can also wear it alone (just dust allover, no foundation needed) to quickly even things out, brighten, and tone down shine.
Eyeko Black Magic Mascara
  • This water-resistant, cruelty-free mascara manages to help curl even the straightest lashes. And if you apply after using a lash curler, it’s even crazier!
  • The curvy brush grabs onto every last lash coating it in jet black pigment.
  • It’s got Keratin and shea butter, which conditions your lashes.
  • The unique squeezy tube packaging means less waste!
This mascara is actually pretty good for a non-waterproof formulation, it doesn’t leave me with racoon eyes. The water resistant claim is true. It is a super dark black mascara (always my fave) and doesn’t make my eyelashes feel dry. However, I don’t think that it holds a curl very well for my stubborn long yet stick straight lashes. I have to curl my lashes, apply the mascara and then re-curl my lashes once the mascara dries.
Vitamasques Face Food Yoghurt Mask Duo
Ipsy Glam Bag Aug 2017

  • Call the crew over for a spa night in because these amazing masks are too good not to share.
  • The Strawberry Yoghurt Mask has (you guessed it) strawberry and yoghurt extract to smooth and illuminate.
  • The Kiwi Yoghurt Mask works to soften and revitalize thanks to (mhm) kiwi and yoghurt extracts.
Crown Brush SS035 Medium Face Contour Brush
Ipsy Glam Bag Aug 2017
  • The synthetic bristles are insanely soft. Like, cuddling with puppies soft.
  • It really holds onto product which makes application way more precise and way less messy. (No need to clean up your vanity after!)
  • The versatile size works great for blush, contour, highlight, foundation, setting, and more.

Brushes are one of my fave things to receive from Ipsy, so I was super happy with this super soft synthetic brush. *Cruelty free*

Ipsy Glam Bag Aug 2017

This month’s bag was way better than last month! I’m happy that I received mostly cruelty free products.

Ipsy Glam Bag September 2016

Ipsy Glam Bag Sept 2016

Hello, hello!

Today I’ll be showing you my September Ipsy Glam Bag. This month’s theme was Glamazon.

The bag for this month’s Glamazon theme:

The makeup bag is cute, photos do not capture the metallic threads of the fabric very well.

Onto the goodies!

épicé Restorative Toner – the brand name makes me giggle because épicé in french means spicy. Here’s what it says on the Ipsy website:

Tone up. Refreshing and gentle enough for all skin types, it hydrates and reduces inflammation (buh-bye, redness) and uneven pigmentation.

I found this toner to be very gentle and hydrating. I found it to be odd packaging for a toner, but it will be great for my trip next month.

This is a vegan and cruelty free product!

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning  Mask – I love hair masks, so I was super happy to get this one.

The picture of good hair health. A weekly go-to to repair damage, restore moisture and protect against breakage. Shine on and on and on.

I used about 3/4 of the tube on Sunday. My hair was so silky and shiny after using this hair mask. I will be purchasing a full-size of this one!

Another cruelty free brand! Some, but not all of their products are vegan.

Ipsy Glam Bag Sept 2016

Tarte Tarteist Lashpaint Mascara – I got a full size of this mascara back in May at the Ipsy Generation Beauty event, the original review is here. Once the mascara dried out a little, it worked better to hold a curl for me, so I do like it a little more than my original review.

No lash left behind. Fanned bristles at the top of the brush reach every single lash, even the teeniest. It’s like 2 brushes in one

I don’t like wearing non-waterproof mascara, so I will likely give this one to someone who will use it.

Another cruelty free brand!

Ipsy Glam Bag Sept 2016

Trèstique Mini Highlight Stick in Maldives Luminescent – I’ve used this on my eyelids for a simple eye look with mascara. It is a light, champagne highlight, very creamy without being greasy.

Glow and go. This soft cream-gel formula glides on gently—brightening with what we call “adult shimmer,” perfect for any age or time of day.

Another cruelty free brand!

Crown Brush Ombre Angle Brush – This is a natural fibre brush made with goat hair, so it is definitely not vegan.

Ideal from every angle. This brush head hits all the curves of our faces perfectly, so we can blush, highlight and contour without a switch or a hitch.

This is a very soft brush. I’ve used it for blush and for highlighting. I do prefer brushes with heavier handles (like my Wayne Goss brushes).

Another cruelty free brand!

Ipsy Glam Bag Sept 2016

All in all I was very happy with this month’s Ipsy Glam Bag, all five products are cruelty free (to be best of my knowledge)!

Generation Beauty – Eyeliner Edit

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the eyeliners that I received at the Generation Beauty event that I attended last month.

First up is a Liquid Liner from Absolute New York. *Gift Bag Swag from Generation Beauty*

Whether you need ultra-fine precision, or dramatic definition, discover your inner eye expert with these six specially designed felt tip liners. Each dispenses a pigmented, ultra-black formula that boasts budge-proof, smudge-proof wear.

Nano: Ultra Fine Precision Liner (Water-Resistant)
Shape n’ Define: Expert Contour Liner (Waterproof)
Design n’ Define: Expert Calligraphy Liner (Waterproof)
Triple Play: Trio Tip Definer (Water-Resistant)
Duo Stroke: Dual-Ended Precision Liner (Waterproof)
Double Trouble: Jumbo Dual-Ended Liner (Waterproof)

I received the Duo Stroke liner. It is a nice deep dark black, and has AMAZING staying power – it is waterproof, so this is not going to budge until you remove it! I like that it has two different tips, so you can choose how thick or thin of a line to use.

Up next is a khol eyeliner pencil from Crown Brush in shade Sea Green K-48. *Freebie from the Crown Brush booth*

I was surprised to not get a brush as the booth freebie when the other brush companies at GenBeauty were giving out brushes. I could not find the exact product on the Crown Brush website, but here’s what it says on the website about their similar eye pencils:

Versatile pencils suitable for both your eyes and brows. Sharp enough to create a defined point but also soft enough to create a smokey, blended effect.
Comfortable to apply and easy to sharpen.

I do love the colour, but I don’t find it to be soft. The colour smudges easily, and it is not super long wearing on me.

Crown Brush & Essence Swatches

And lastly we have the Long Lasting Eye Pencil from Essence in shade 01 Black Fever. *Gift Bag Swag from Generation Beauty*

long-lasting and color-intense: the long-lasting eye pencil is super-easy to apply accurately thanks to its innovative twist-mechanism and guarantees long-lasting color results.

This pencil is soft and applies like a dream. It is more of a soft black than an ultra-black colour to me, maybe because I’m used to both Perversion and Zero from Urban Decay which are super dark. As for lasting power, it isn’t as long lasting as UD on me, but I’d still say that the lasting power was decent.

What is your fave liquid liner? Fave eyeliner pencil?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

This brush is so incredibly soft and it works amazingly well for applying powder. The handle has a nice weight and it is a gorgeous addition to my brush collection.

Tarte3

Luxie BeautyLuxie Rose Gold Medium Fan Brush #560 ($18 USD) *I purchased this for just under $15 CAD*

Luxie Beauty

Our Luxie Rose Gold Medium Fan Face brush has been handcrafted with ultra soft vegan synthetic bristles to allow a soft touch to the skin when swiping back and forth. This uniquely shaped brush gives you the easiest and precise application of highlighter and bronzer when you need it. It helps enhance and sculpt your cheekbones while also allowing you to swipe away any excess powder from the cheekbones and undereye area.

I’ve been wanting to get a fan brush for several months now. The synthetic bristles are super soft. I’ve been using it for applying highlighter all week.

Luxie Beauty

Luxie BeautyLuxie Rose Gold Tapered Highlighting Brush # 522 ($24 USD) *Generation Beauty Freebie*

Luxie Beauty

A testament to cruelty-free and vegan beauty, this Luxie highlighting brush features a sleek pink handle and rose gold ferrule. The makeup brush has antibacterial synthetic bristles that are clean and soft as silk on the skin. Without needing a lot of makeup product, the brush size makes it ideal for an easy and simple makeup application. Perfect as an everyday highlight brush.

Luxie Beauty

Another super soft synthetic brush from cruelty-free and vegan brand Luxie Beauty. I think that I will be using this one mainly for bronzer.

Luxie Beauty

Royal & Langnickel –  MODA Smoky Eye Brush #BMD-421 ($6.99 USD) *Generation Beauty Freebie*

Royal & Langnickel

Synthetic Filament. Apply shadow with precision in the crease and close to the lash line for a dramatic eye look. This beautifully bold, 100% vegan line includes water-resistant acrylic handles with a Silk-Touch™ coating for ultimate durability and ease of care.

These MODA brushes are ridiculously soft. I’ve used this brush a couple of times for a subtle day version of a smoky eye.

Royal & Langnickel

Royal & Langnickel –  MODA EZglam Duo – Luscious Lips #BMD-EGLL ($5.99 USD) *Generation Beauty Gift Bag Swag*

Nude or dramatic, get full luscious lips with the Pointed Lip and Flat Lip brushes.

Royal & Langnickel

These brushes are great for applying darker shades of liquid lipsticks as I find that the doe foot applicator that most liquid lipsticks have is not precise enough.

Royal & Langnickel

Crown BrushFlawless Face Blender #DP1-O ($24.99 USD) *I purchased this for $6.00 CAD*

Crown Brush

I got this to test out and replace my Real Techniques sponge as it is starting to wear out. The flawless face blender sponge is really soft, and I found it to be easy to use for applying foundation or BB cream.

The photo on the left shows the blender dry, and the photo on the right shows how it looks when dampened.

Crown BrushBrow Duo #C413 ($8.20 USD) *Generation Beauty Gift Bag Swag*

Crown Brush

I use brow pencils right now, so the brow brush end hasn’t been tested out. The bristles are pretty hard though. The spoolie brush end is a spoolie – I think that they are all pretty much the same.

Crown Brush

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Generation Beauty Purchases & Toronto Haulage

Hello, hello!

Today I’d like to show you what I purchased at the Generation Beauty event and other things that I purchased while in Toronto.

Generation Beauty Purchases:

Generation Beauty Purchases

At the Essence Cosmetics Booth, they had a pick any five products for $15. As you can see I chose a mascara, a lip oil, an eyeshadow primer, a nail polish and a blush.

Generation Beauty Purchases

I purchased a fan brush at the Luxie booth. It was just under $15. Sadly the bristles got a little crunched in my bag on the way back to Montreal, but hopefully I can fix that.

The last thing that I purchased was a Flawless Face Blender. Crown Brush’s version of the Beauty Blender. I paid $6 for this sponge.

Friday Shopping:

Toronto Haulage

I picked up two solid perfumes from H&M on Friday while wandering around downtown waiting for my friend to finish work.

Toronto Haulage

I also popped into Sephora on Friday specifically looking for the Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector. This was a “blogger made me buy it” purchase as I’d been wanting this ever since Stashy reviewed it on her blog.

Epic Saturday Meetup and Shopping:

After spending a few hours at the Generation Beauty Show, I was able to meet up with two fellow bloggers – Cat from My Lip Addiction, and Stashy from Stash Matters!

We went to a cafe because it was really windy and cold, and both wanted to see the loot that I got at the Generation Beauty event. Once we had caffeinated and warmed up we headed out for some shopping, hitting the Marshal’s store where Stashy often finds great stuff. The key is to go often because the stock changes frequently.

After that, we headed to Queen Street West to the Nyx store. It was jam packed, but we managed to elbow our way through the masses to look at the products.

I purchased the Ombre Blush at the Nyx store in Mauve Me.

After that we headed to the Saje store where everything smells AMAZING. I could have spent all my money there but restrained myself to just buying one thing.

Toronto Haulage

Again, this was a “blogger made me buy it” purchase, and also a Stashy reviewed product.

We also went to Urban Outfitters to see what they had in their beauty section, and also checked out an Asian Beauty shop (sadly I have no idea of the store’s name). We probably spent more time talking than actually shopping!

Both Cat and Stashy are genuinely lovely. I’m so happy that I was able to meet them and spend time with them in real life! I absolutely cannot wait to hang out with them the next time I’m in Toronto, or maybe I can convince them to come to Montreal. ❤

So there you have it, that is everything that I purchased while in Toronto. Reviews to follow once I’ve tested everything out.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Crown Brush Studio Pro set 626 – Part 2

If you missed part one of the review, it is here.

Today I’ll be reviewing the eye brushes from the Crown Brush Studio Pro set 626. I had to guess which type of fibre / hair was used for the brushes (if I am wrong, please do let me know so I can correct the info) – based on this page from the Crown Brush Australia site. Both the UK and Australian Crown Brush websites are so much better than the U.S. and Canadian sites.

Crown Brush

First we have the pro blending crease brush, it is a natural hair brush, most likely a natural goat fibre.

Crown1

I used it yesterday, so the dark tip is actually eyeshadow, not the actual fibres. I love this one, I’ve used it several times since getting this set.

Crown2

Up next is the precision brush. I think that this one is a natural goat hair brush.

Crown3

This one is great for smudging shadow / liner, or for laying down the outer v.

Crown4

Next is the pro blending fluff brush. It is a goat / sable hair mix.

Crown9

This one is so soft and fluffy (in a good way), it makes blending so much easier.

Crown10

Next is the oval concealer brush. I’m not 100% sure if this one is red sable or if it is synthetic – the bristles are soft, yet firm.

Crown11

It is for applying concealer, primer, or cream shadows. I think that it is more likely to be synthetic than sable since on the website it says that synthetic hair brushes are best for liquids and creams. I’ve only tested this one with concealer, and yesterday morning I accidentally used it with a loose eyeshadow pigment. (It worked great by the way, haha!)

Crown12

Next is the angled liner brush. It is very soft, I think that this one is synthetic.

Crown7

Great for eyeliner, or applying eyeshadow wet as an eyeliner. I’ve only used this once since I usually either use my pencil liner or my liquid liner that comes with its own brush.

Crown8

And last but not least is the pointed liner brush. The bristles are super delicate.I think that the bristles are synthetic.Crown5

This one would be great for using your eyeshadow wet as a liner. I haven’t actually used this one yet.

Crown6

The brush roll is faux leather which means that it is super easy to keep clean, you can just wipe it with a damp cloth. It has slots to hold all eleven brushes, with a protective flap that fold over the bristles when the roll is closed.

Crown brush1

I don’t store my brushes in the roll – I have pretty Ikea containers for storage, and a Benjabelle brush tree for when I’m cleaning and drying my brushes, but the brush roll will be so great when travelling because it will keep them protected in my luggage.

crown brush2

Final verdict: I’m really glad that I took a chance and ordered this brush set. The price and quality are great. I’m probably not going to use the pointed liner brush all that much, but the rest of the brush set I know that I will definitely make use of. I only have two complaints about this set, the first being that I wish that it had come with an insert that explained what each brush was for and what type of bristles was used in each brush instead of having to look it up and figure it out. The second is that I wish that this set had a fan brush. Not a deal breaker for me since I know that I’ve lived this long without a fan brush, so I’m sure that I’ll survive a little longer without one!

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!!! ❤ ❤ ❤

Crown Brush Studio Pro Set 626 – Part 1

Hello, hello! I decided to split my review of the Crown Brush Studio Pro set 626 into two parts. Today I’m reviewing the face brushes from the set that I gave a sneak peak of here.

Crown12

I’ve been slowly adding to my brush collection, and replacing them with better quality, cruelty free brushes.

All Crown Brushes are 100% Animal Cruelty Free.

Absolutely no animals are harmed or destroyed for the purpose of making our brushes!

This set has both natural and synthetic hair bristles, depending on the type of brush. Here is a little explanation from the Crown Brush UK website (which is far more informative than the Canadian website, by the way).

Crownbrush recommend using a synthetic haired brush for anything ‘wet’ i.e. liquid foundation, lipstick, eyeliner, cream blush etc. The synthetic hair gives a streak free finish and doesn’t soak up the product as much as natural hair. Natural hair brushes are the best for anything ‘dry’ i.e. mineral foundation, face powder, bronzer, blusher etc. The natural hair grabs the powder particles and places them on skin rather than falling off the brush onto your jumper!

And here’s a little info on their natural hair bristles:

There are different types of natural hair and they all have a different feel. Badger hair and red sable feel the softest, whereas sable and goat hair feel firmer.  It is down to personal preference which hair type is preferred. We also stock a range of duo fibre brushes; these help achieve an airbrushed finish. The white synthetic tip will place the product on the skin and spread it evenly; the black natural hair will buff the top of the product and so achieving an airbrushed finish.

One of my complaints about the set is that it did not come with a little card that tells me what each of the brushes is used for, but thankfully on the Crown Brush UK site, it lists each one in the set.

First up is the powder dome brush, which looks to be a sable and goat hair brush.

Crown1

I’ve been using this one to apply my Nyx stay matte but not flat powder foundation.

Crown2

Next is the duo fibre face brush which can be used for powder foundations, bronzers, and even for  liquid foundations, made from a combination of goat (dark bristles) and synthetic (white bristles).

Crown3

This one is super soft. I’ve been using this both to apply my powder, or to make sure that there isn’t any excess powder on my face

Crown4

Next is the oval foundation brush, made from synthetic fibres. This bristles are firm but very soft on the skin.

Crown5

Crown6

Next is the contour blush brush. This one has natural hair bristles, I think that it is capra or goat.

Crown7

The angled bristles are great for contouring and blush application. I’ve been using this one for blush.

Crown8

Next is the chisel blush brush. Like the large dome powder brush, this one has natural hair bristles in a sable and goat mix.

Crown9

I’ve been using this one for both blush and for highlighting. Great for a super soft flushed cheek look.

Crown10

So there you have it, part one of the Crown Brush Studio Pro set 626 – the face brushes. Part two of the review will be posted next week.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!!! ❤ ❤ ❤

Sneak Peek – Crown Brush Studio Pro Set

Sorry for posting a few hours later than I usually do! But better late than never, right?

I ordered a set of Crown Brushes in early to mid August, and they finally arrived YESTERDAY* just as I was about to run out the door for an appointment. I haven’t even gotten to try them out yet, but I really wanted to give you a little sneak peak at what I will be trying out over the next couple of days.

Crown brush1

This is set 626, which is an 11 piece Studio PRO brush set that comes in a faux leather brush roll.

crown brush2

I’ve basically doubled my brush collection!

Disclosure: I purchased this!

*I didn’t order directly from Crown Brush, so the delay in receiving my order has nothing to do with them.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!!! ❤ ❤ ❤
