Kosasport Chemistry AHA Serum Deodorant Review

Kosasport Chemistry AHA Serum Deodorant

Hello, hello – welcome to A Brash Attitude!

After several weeks of testing, I’m finally ready to review the Kosasport Chemistry AHA Serum Deodorant that I purchased during a mini Sephora haul .[info in italics taken from the Sephora Canada website]

Kosasport Chemistry AHA Serum Deodorant

What it is: A clean, stain-free serum deodorant that features a unique AHA blend for the ultimate odor-fighting formula. Available in Serene Clean (notes of citrus, ylang ylang), Beachy Clean (notes of jasmine, sandalwood, vanilla), and Fragrance Free.

Highlighted Ingredients:

– AHA Blend: Deodorizes, exfoliates, improves skin‘s moisture, and addresses visible dullness and discoloration.

– Aloe Vera Juice: Moisturizes, soothes, and visibly invigorates

– Hyaluronic Acid: Hydrates for softer, smoother skin.

What Else You Need to Know: Featuring a blend of shikimic, mandelic, and lactic acids, this deodorant targets odor where it starts by supporting a pH environment where odor-causing bacteria can‘t survive. Free from aluminum and baking soda, the cooling formula soothes skin, visibly brightens, helps prevent the occurrence of ingrown hairs, and feels good to roll on.

Kosasport Chemistry AHA Serum Deodorant

The good – very gentle and non-irritating on my sensitive underarm skin. It even feels hydrating. The Beach Clean scent blend of jasmine, sandalwood and vanilla is quite lovely. As you might know, I’m not normally a fan of jasmine, but this blend works. I am currently avoiding all baking soda based deodorants due to sensitivity.

The less good – During our recent heatwave, this deodorant crapped out on me – and full disclosure, it wasn’t pretty (can we say stanktacular)! But on cooler days, it worked great. So personally I would use another deodorant form my stash on super active or super hot days, and use this one on cooler or less active days. The thing about natural deodorants is that due to our differences in body chemistry (and diet etc), a deodorant that works well for one person, might be horrible for another person.

Overall – I like this deodorant, but I don’t love it.

Have you tried this deodorant?

Routine Moon Sisters Natural Deodorant Stick Review

Hello, hello – welcome to / welcome back to A Brash Attitude!

Today I’m reviewing the Natural Deodorant Stick from Routine in the Moon Sisters scent that was purchased recently from well.ca. Routine is a Canadian brand – this is my first time trying anything from this brand [info in italics taken from the Routine website]

Whimsical nostalgia, neroli & roses.
Wearing nothin’ but the moonlight,
summer swimming, striking poses.
CHARCOAL, MAGNESIUM & PREBIOTICS
Scent Profile: Floral & Grounding Predominant Scent: Rose & Neroli (low key floral with nostalgic undertones of summer) Formula: CHARCOAL (with prebiotics) Essential Oils: Lavender, Rose, Neroli, Champa, Vetiver, and Peppermint.

The charcoal detoxifies, magnesium relaxes the pits to reduce stress sweats and prebiotics keep your skin healthy. There is a touch of baking soda for added deodorizing- just enough to keep most sensitive skinned people from getting irritation.

This natural deodorant WORKS really well. Although it says that it only has a touch of baking soda in it, it is just enough that if I use it seven days in a row, it will trigger some irritation – but that is normal for me with any natural deodorant if it has baking soda. So I alternate using with a baking soda free deodorant to prevent reaction / give my skin a break.

Because this deodorant contains charcoal it is grey in colour, so I wouldn’t want to use it with a tank top as it does leave a faint grey cast on the skin. The scent is really nice – not too strong – I love rose and neroli, such a fresh and light floral scent!

I plan to try their baking soda free version the next time I’m stocking up on things from well.ca.

Are you a fan of natural deodorant? Have you tried this one?

Speak 09 Deodorant Cream Review

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the 09 Deodorant Cream from Speak. It came in my February Petit Vour box. [info in italics taken from the Petit Vour website]

Speak 09 Deodorant Cream

A gentle, yet effective natural deodorant with a creamy texture that glides on to give you satin-soft protection. An aluminium and baking soda-free formulation that’s great for sensitive skin. Features arrowroot powder, kaolin clay and magnesium as odor neutralizers and excess sweat moppers. A combination of butters and oils keeps the delicate underarm area soft and healthy. Lightly scented with lavender essential oil to keep you smelling fresh.

Speak 09 Deodorant Cream

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you’ll know that I’ve made the switch to natural deodorant a few years ago, and have had various degrees of success using natural deodorants. Some work amazingly well, some are just ok, and some are not a good match for my body chemistry.

Speak 09 Deodorant Cream

I’ve had better luck using deodorants with baking soda in them as they tend to last longer for me, but because I have sensitive skin, I sometimes react to the baking soda. To reduce the chances of a reaction occurring, I tend to use a baking soda free deodorant on days that I’m working from home to give my skin a break.

Speak 09 Deodorant Cream

I was pleasantly surprised to find that this natural deodorant works really well and it holds up all day! And it keeps my underarms a lot drier than most baking soda free formulas. My only complaint is that it doesn’t smell like lavender to me at all! It doesn’t really smell like anything.

Update March 19th – The Mister has started trying this deodorant out and he said that it works amazing for him even though he finds the cream application to be weird! He has a job where he is moving about (and sweating a lot) and so far, he has not been smelly when he gets home from work!

Ingredients 100% Cruelty-Free and Vegan | Maranta Arundinacea (Arrowroot) Root Powder, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Magnesium Hydroxide, Kaolin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil

Do you use natural deodorants?

Native Deodorant – Sensitive Formula in Cotton + Lily Scent

Hello, hello!

Today I have  a little review of the Sensitive Formula from Native Deodorant. Both myself and the Mister have tested out the regular formula natural deodorants and find them to work really well (review is here). I have sensitive skin, and have occasionally reacted to baking soda in natural deodorants if I use it daily for long periods of time. Because of this, I try to use a baking soda free deodorant on days that I’m working from home to give my sensitive underarm skin a break.

Native Deodorant - Sensitive Cotton + Lily

So why don’t I just use a baking soda free deodorant all the time? Honestly, it is mainly because most sensitive formula / baking soda free deodorants just don’t work that well for my body and will usually suddenly stop working after abut four hours (sometimes less).

Native Deodorant - Sensitive Cotton + Lily

So how does the Native Sensitive Deodorant measure up?

It applies smoothly without any dragging or crumbling – very creamy. The scent is subtle and fresh. And most importantly, it works for more than four hours on me! I’d say that it works well on me for about 16 hours before it starts to wear off. And when it does start to wear off, it is very gradual –  I don’t suddenly become a stink-beast (thankfully)!

Native Deodorant - Sensitive Cotton + Lily

Ingredients: Caprylic/capric triglyceride (fractionated coconut oil), arrowroot powder, stearyl alcohol, magnesium hydroxide (milk of magnesia), shea butter, coconut oil, hydrogenated castor oil, polyglycerol-3 beeswax (cera bellina wax), jojoba esters, tocopherol (Vitamin E), L. acidophilus (natural bacteria found in your body already), maltodextrin, glyceryl caprylate, glyceryl undecylenate + proprietary oil blend (fragrance).

I think that what makes this sensitive formula work so well  is the milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) and acidophilus (probiotic) content as none of the sensitive deodorants that I’ve previously tried contained either of these ingredients.

Do you use natural deodorants? If so, which one(s) do you use?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Native Deodorant Reviews

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review of the women’s and men’s deodorants from Native. Both myself and the Mister have been testing them out for the past two and a half weeks and I think we are ready to give our opinion on the Lavender and Rose and the Cedar and Sea Salt formulas. [info in italics taken from the Native website]

Native Deodorant

Native Deodorant is made in the United States. We never test on animals, except humans who volunteer to test Native. Native Deodorant fights odors and wetness, and is made without aluminium.

Native Deodorant

Native Deodorant is made with ingredients you can pronounce, and is made without parabens. We use baking soda to neutralize odors, arrowroot powder to absorb moisture and acidophilus to eliminate odor-causing fungi, yeast, and bacteria. Native Deodorant actively protects against odors, so you can remain active and confident all day long.

Both myself and the Mister made the switch from anti-perspirants to natural deodorants
a few years ago, and have tested out several different ones over the years, with varied results.
Native Deodorant
Originally I was going to review these deodorants after just one week of use, but then Montreal was hit with a major heatwave, so I decided to extend the wear testing to see how it measured up against extreme high heat and humidity.
Both the Lavender + Rose and the Cedar + Sea Salt Deodorants are mildly scented – perfect for individuals with sensitive noses.
Native Deodorant
Both myself and the Mister found that the Native Deodorants worked amazingly well, even under the extreme heat and humidity of the past week!
I found that my underarms seemed to be less wet, and the deodorant held up until washing it off the next day! I’ve never had a deodorant work so effectively and as long when it is this hot! And so far, it has not not irritated my sensitive underarm skin, even though I purchased the regular formulation (not the sensitive one).
Native Deodorant
I think I may have finally found THE ONE for me! The Mister feels the same way.
Native Deodorants are available in regular and a sensitive formulas – in classic and seasonal scents, as well as unscented versions, and cost $12 USD per stick, with free shipping to the US, Canada, Australia, France, Germany and the UK.
They send really cute emails when they receive your order, and when they send out the shipping confirmation email.

Have you tried this one?
Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Sneak Peek – Now Testing

Hello, hello!

Just a sneak peek of what I’m in the process of testing.

If you follow me on InstaGram, you will know that I placed an order with Native for two of their natural deodorants – one for me, and one for the Mister.

Native Deodorant

We’ve both been using natural deodorants for a few years now, so we won’t go through the detox process that underarms go through when making the switch from anti-perspirant to deodorant.

The review will follow once we’ve had a chance to test them out.

Schmidt’s Naturals Deodorant Sensitive Skin Formula Review

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review of the new Sensitive Skin Formula Deodorant from Schmidt’s Naturals. I’ve previously reviewed the regular formula here if you want to check it out. I’ve tried numerous natural deodorants with varied results, but the Schmidt’s was by far the best one that I’ve ever used as it was long lasting and didn’t seem to crap out after a few hours. Not only did it keep my underarms from getting smelly, it kept them dry.

Fast forward to a year later of using the regular formula, and I started to develop a sensitivity to the baking soda. I’ve had this happen before with other natural deodorants with baking soda – usually fairly quickly. The reaction starts with my underarms getting red and irritated, and my skin will start looking similar to eczema, and as it heals, the skin will peel off. Normally when this starts to happen, I switch back to one of my baking soda free deodorants (that just don’t seem to work as well for me), to give my underarms a break.

Schmidt's

So when Schmidt’s announced on their Instagram and Twitter that they were introducing some new sensitive formula deodorants, I commented that I needed to try it due to developing a baking soda sensitivity, and they told me to contact their customer service for some tips, the information below is taken from my email correspondence:

We’re sorry to hear that you are experiencing sensitivity while using Schmidt’s. It’s possible the discomfort is due to a sensitivity or allergy to an ingredient (such as baking soda), pH level of the skin, transitioning from antiperspirant (some people report going through a “detox” period), or it could even be that you’re applying more than is needed. Our product is effective and fast-absorbing, and can be used in smaller quantities than you may be used to applying with conventional deodorants and antiperspirants. We suggest starting with 1-2 swipes with our stick applicator or about half a pea-sized amount under each arm when using our jar applicator. Some people apply a small amount of moisturizer such as coconut oil before applying the deodorant and find that this does the trick for them.

Because I’ve been using natural deodorants for several years now, I’m long past the detox period, and had already tried the coconut oil trick to try to minimize the irritation.

Schmidt's

I had several emails back and forth with their customer service, and they offered to replace my existing regular formula with either their new Charcoal and Magnesium Deodorant (with baking soda) or with one of their Sensitive Formula Deodorants!

Our Sensitive Skin are formulated without baking soda-they use magnesium to neutralize odour, and are formulated specifically for those seeking effective and natural protection from wetness and odour that is especially gentle on skin. This formula prioritizes a smooth, creamy consistency, topped off with inviting essential oils that are renowned for the skin-soothing and anti-inflammatory qualities.

I decided to try out the sensitive formula since I was certain that it was the baking soda that was causing my reaction. I have to say that their customer service is EXCELLENT.

The Sensitive Skin Formula Deodorants come in six different scents – Coconut Pineapple, Jasmine Tea, Lavender Tips, Geranium Flower, Tea Tree and Fragrance Free. I chose to get the Lavender Tips scent to try out.

Schmidt's

I’ve been using the Lavender Tips Sensitive Skin Deodorant for a several weeks now, and I have to say that I’m impressed! It works better for me than any other baking soda free deodorant that I’ve tried thus far. It is long lasting, I can put it on in the morning, and it keeps me smelling fresh all day. My underarms got a little damp once or twice, but I didn’t get smelly. Overall I’m really liking this one, and I think I’ll be using the Sensitive Formula most of the time, and only break out the regular formula one for days when I know I’ll be really active.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Disclosure: Product sent as a free replacement for my original deodorant that I had purchased myself.

Schmidt’s Deodorant Review

Schmidt's Natural Deodorant

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing two Schmidt’s Deodorants. Schmidt’s Deodorants are natural, vegan and cruelty-free and are available in stick or jar format in five different scents: lavender and sage, bergamot and lime, cedarwood and juniper, ylang-ylang and calendula, and fragrance free.

I’ve been testing the Ylang-Ylang and Calendula, and the Mr. has been testing the Cedarwood and Juniper scent.

Schmidt's Natural Deodorant

The elegant aroma of Ylang-Ylang + Calendula is sweet with delicate floral notes. This formula is soothing to the skin with enhanced antibacterial protection.

Ingredients (Ylang-Ylang and Calendula scent): Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, Cocos Nucifera (coconut) Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (candelilla) Wax, Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (fractionated coconut oil), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cananga odorata (ylang-ylang) essential oil, Calendula officinalis (calendula) essential oil, Tocopherol (vitamin E)

schmidts4

Cedarwood + Juniper is a favorite among men and women alike. This provocative blend offers a warm, woody scent that is irresistible, with antiseptic & detoxifying benefits.

Ingredients (Cedarwood and Juniper scent): Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, Cocos Nucifera (coconut) Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (candelilla) Wax, Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (fractionated coconut oil), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cedrus deodara (Himalayan cedar) essential oil, Juniperus (juniper) essential oil, Tocopherol (vitamin E)

For the past week (me), and for the past two weeks (the Mr.) , have been wear testing these deodorants under pretty tough testing conditions as the weather has been super hot and humid, and the final test was yesterday with a 5.4 km hike in Rigaud! *see my Instagram for a few photos*

Schmidt's Natural Deodorant

These deodorants REALLY WORK! Yesterday was a really active day, and there was lots of sweating during our hot afternoon hike. But neither of us smelled AT ALL! Not even a tiny bit!

Schmidt’s is long lasting, I’d say easily 20 to 24 hours. And no skin irritation reported by either of us. Out of all the deodorants that we have tested, I think that this brand might work the best for both of our body chemistries!

In case you’ve missed it, I’ve reviewed a few different deodorants, the first in my blog post about switching from anti-perspirant to deodorant where I talk about the detox process, and review three different brands (Primal Pit Paste, Zabana Essentials, and Earth Science Naturals), Herban Cowboy, and last week’s review of the Tom’s of Maine deodorant.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Disclosure: I purchased these things!
