Essence Double Trouble Mascara Review

Essence Double Trouble Mascara

Hello, hello – welcome to / welcome back to A Brash Attitude!

Long time, no write! You all know that Essence is one of my go-to brands for mascara, so when it came time to replace my mascara, I decided to purchase a new to me mascara from Essence – the Double Trouble Mascara [info in italics taken from the Essence Cosmetics website]

Essence Double Trouble Mascara

Double the volume, double the trouble! essence DOUBLE TROUBLE MASCARA is bold, daring, and has a double-sided brush for a lash look that’s got it all. The applicator has two sides, an elastomer brush and a fiber brush for extreme definition, curl, and length! Also available in waterproof!

Essence Double Trouble Mascara

This sounds like a great mascara for me since I prefer VOLUME and CURL for my lashes. If you’ve been reading abrashattitude.com for awhile, you will know that I am super picky about mascara. I have long, stick-straight lashes that are quite light in colour considering my natural hair colour is dark brown. I use a lash curler and I need a mascara will hold a curl. My eyes are sensitive, and water easily so any mascara that I use must be smudge proof, and water resistant.

I have seven requirements for a mascara, and I’ll comment on each requirement and score each point. So how did the Double Trouble Mascara score?

Essence Double Trouble Mascara

1. waterproof / water resistant +0 Not water resistant, did not hold up well if my eyes watered at all.

2. smudge-proof +0 – it smudged easily on me

3. non-flaking / non-clumping +1 – no flake or clump for me

4. must be DARK black (not blackish, not brown black, and definitely not grey black) +1 Dark black!

5. volumizing +1/4 The volume was minimal. Even with multiple coats.

6. must hold a curl +1/4 Held a curl briefly, then my lashes drooped.

7. non-irritating to my sensitive eyes +1 no itchy eyes!

Overall I would give this mascara a 2.5 out of 7 – which is really not good! I had high hopes for this one, but was so disappointed. This might be the lowest I’ve ever scored a mascara!

Have you tried this mascara?

Cumulative Empties Sep 2021 to Feb 2022

Empties Sep 21 to Feb 22 Skincare

Hello, hello – welcome to / welcome back to A Brash Attitude!

Today I have my empties that I’ve accumulated over the past six months. There actually should be more, but I think that a few things got misplaced or recycled.

Skincare:

Empties Sep 21 to Feb 22 Skincare

Made for Me Hydrating Moisturizer and Brightening C Serum (*PR Gifted) – Both the moisturizer and serum are amazing, and I’d would highly recommend both of them. I have a bunch of serums and moisturizers to use up in my stash, but I would purchase these. Reviews are here.

Haircare:

Empties Sep 21 to Feb 22 Haircare

Garnier Fructis Hydrating Treat Conditioner (Aloe Extract) – This is a great budget friendly conditioner. I would re-purchase this eventually – but right now I’m committed to using the Keratinworks line to maintain my hair post salon treatment. Review is here.

EVOLVh Smart Start Leave-In Conditioner (*PR Gifted) and Ultrashine Moisture Shampoo – Both are amazing, and I could see myself purchasing eventually. Reviews are here and here.

Kristin Ess Beach Wave Spray – This is a great product for enhancing my wavy hair and giving it that beachy wave effect. I would re-purchase eventually. Review is here.

Noughty To The Rescue Intense Moisture Treatment – An awesome budget friendly hair mask – I loved this, and would likely repurchase. Review is here.

Bath and Body:

Empties Sep 21 to Feb 22 Bodycare

Haus of Gloi Lily Cake Bubbling Scrub (*This was birthday gift) – I love the bubbling scrubs from Haus of Gloi. I’ve purchased them many times over the years in different scents, and will do so again eventually.

Alba Botanica Hawaiian Body Cream – I’ve purchased this several times, and will do so again eventually. It is such an amazing body cream. Review is here.

Naturewell Hydrolyzed Collagen Moisture Cream (*PR gifted) – Another amazing body cream. Great for winter dryness. I would purchase this one as it is super effective and budget friendly. Review is here.

Lowen’s Natural Skincare Salt of the Earth Sea Salt Scrub – I would definitely re-purchase this body scrub. It smells amazing, its super hydrating, and exfoliates really well. Review is here.

Makeup:

Empties Sep 21 to Feb 22 Makeup

Flower Beauty Warrior Princess Mascara – I liked this mascara, scored it a 6.25 out of 7. It was good, but not holy grail for me. Review is here.

Essence Cosmetics Bye Bye Panda Eyes! and #Lashes of the Day Mascaras – Bye Bye Panda Eyes I scored 6.25 out of 7, but I found that this mascara got better over time. I would buy this one again, because it improved, so I’d increase the score to 6.75 out of 7. Lashes of the day scored higher at 6.5 out of 7, but it didn’t get any better over time, so I don’t think I would repurchase. Reviews are here and here.

Covergirl Full Lash Bloom Mascara – This mascara scored a 6 out of 7. It was good, but not great for me. I’ve tried and liked other Covergirl mascaras better. Review is here.

So did you finish up many products over the past couple of months?

Essence Cosmetics Bye Bye Panda Eyes! Mascara Review

Essence Bye Bye Panda Eyes! Mascara

Hello, hello – welcome to / welcome back to A Brash Attitude!

Today I have a review of the Essence Cosmetics Bye Bye Panda Eyes! Mascara – I purchased it recently and have been testing it out daily. [info in italics taken from the Essence website]

Essence Bye Bye Panda Eyes! Mascara

say bye bye to those panda eyes and hello to clean volume and defined lashes! this mascara is made to last all day without smudging or clumping with our tubular formula. plus its easy to remove with just warm water. vegan. paraben free. oil free. perfume free. alcohol free.

Based on the description of the Bye Bye Panda Eyes! Smudge-proof Volumizing and Defining Mascara, this sounds like a great mascara for me. If you’ve been reading abrashattitude.com for awhile, you will know that I am very very picky about mascara. I have long, super stick-straight lashes that are quite light in colour considering my natural hair colour is dark brown. I use a lash curler and I need a mascara will hold a curl. My eyes are sensitive, and water easily so any mascara that I use must be smudge proof, and water resistant. I’m trying not to use waterproof mascara these days.

Essence Bye Bye Panda Eyes! Mascara

I have seven requirements for a mascara, and I’ll comment on each requirement and score each point. So how did the Bye Bye Panda Eyes! Mascara measure up?

1. waterproof / water resistant +1 surprisingly water resistant, yet easy to remove

2. smudge-proof +1 no panda eyes for me!

3. non-flaking / non-clumping +1

4. must be DARK black (not blackish, not brown black, and definitely not grey black) +1 Super dark black!

5. volumizing +1/2 not as volumizing as I had hoped, gives beautiful length though

6. must hold a curl +3/4 It holds a curl ok, wish it was a better hold

7. non-irritating to my sensitive eyes +1 no itchy eyes!

Essence Bye Bye Panda Eyes! Mascara

Overall I would give this mascara a 6.25 out of 7. I like it a lot, and I hope that as it dries out, that the curl holding power and volume will increase.

Have you tried this mascara, did you like it?

Empties May to Jul 2021

Hello, hello – welcome to / welcome back to A Brash Attitude!

Today I’d like to share my product finishes from the past three months, and I’ll let you know if I would purchase again (eventually), or not, and link to my original reviews. Let’s take a look…

Skincare + Makeup:

Empties May to Jul 2021

Sudsatorium Great Gatsby Lip Scrub – I loved this minty lip scrub, and would likely purchase again.

Kaelen Harwell Refining Roman Chamomile Ylang Ylang Cleanser – This was from my CertClean Clean Beauty Awards 2019-20 judging panel box. I absolutely love this creamy cleanser. Gentle, non-drying, amazing. I would purchase this one.

Quo Beauty Hydrating Facial Serum – This was a nice hyaluronic acid based serum. It’s budget friendly. I would purchase again eventually.

Wet N Wild Ultimate Brow Pencil – I have purchased this brow pencil several times since 2018, when Wet N Wild was cruelty free. I will not re-purchase unless they return to cruelty free status.

Essence Micro Precise Brow Pencil – I loved this micro-brow pencil. I would re-purchase.

Covergirl The Super Sizer Big Curl Mascara (Waterproof) – This was a really good waterproof mascara, I scored it a 6.5 out of 7.

Essence Lashes of the Day Super Volume Mascara Review

Hello, hello – welcome to / welcome back to A Brash Attitude!

Today I have a review of the Essence #Lashes of the Day Super Volume Mascara that I purchased awhile back in my little haul from Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty [info in italics taken from the Shoppers website].

Have a #fabulash day with look at me lashes! This Super volume mascara will give you the perfect curl. The brush is designed to evenly apply mascara to each and every lash.

Based on the description of the Lashes of the Day Super Volume Mascara, this sounds perfect for me. If you’ve been reading abrashattitude.com for awhile, you will know that I am admittedly so mega picky about mascara. I have long, super stick-straight lashes that are quite light in colour considering my natural hair colour is dark brown. I need to use a lash curler and I need a mascara that holds a curl. My eyes are sensitive, and water easily so any mascara that I use must be smudge proof, and water-resistant.

I have seven requirements for a mascara, and I’ll comment on each requirement and score each point. So how did the Essence #Lashes of the Day Super Volume Mascara measure up?

1. waterproof / water resistant  – Not waterproof, but it withstood my watery eyes, so quite water-resistant +1

2. smudge-proof +1 This was surprising as it is not a waterproof formulation, but I had no smudging!

3. non-flaking / non-clumping – If you don’t wipe the excess of the ends of the mascara wand, if can get a little on the clumpy side. +1

4. must be DARK black (not blackish, not brown black, and definitely not grey black) +1 Super dark black!

5. volumizing +1 Pretty great volume

6. must hold a curl +1/2 It holds a curl pretty well for several hours, but not all day. Hopefully this will improve as the mascara dries out, if it does, I will revise my score.

7. non-irritating to my sensitive eyes +1

Overall I would give this mascara a 6.5 out of 7. If it held a curl better, I would have scored it higher. Nearly perfect, but not quite holy grail for me.

Have you tried this mascara, did you like it?

Cumulative Empties Aug to Dec 2020 – Hair, Body and Makeup

Hello, hello! Welcome to / welcome back to A Brash Attitude!

Earlier this week I shared my cumulative skincare empties, and today I have my haircare, body care an makeup empties (not decluttered makeup, that was a separate post). I didn’t finish up nearly as much in these categories as I did with my skincare stash, but I still feel like I’m making progress in using up products. I will link to my original reviews and let you know if it is something I would purchase / re-purchase or not (by purchase I mean eventually, as my goal is to only buy products when necessary).

Hair and Body Care:

NatureLab Tokyo Perfect Repair Shampoo – This was a part of a larger PR package from the brand. The matching conditioner has a few uses left in it, so I’m sure it will be in my next round of empties. I really love the Perfect Repair Shampoo – it makes my hair so soft and healthy feeling. I would purchase a full size of this if I can get it here, or order online from a Canadian website.

MoMi Beauty Styling Jelly – This was from my Petit Vour subscription. I liked this a lot, it worked well for my wavy, frizz prone hair. I would love to get a full size of this eventually – once I use up my current stash of styling products.

Sothys Pro-Youth Body Serum – This was a PR product. This is more like a rich body butter than a serum. Amazing for dry skin, and left my skin silky smooth. It is on the pricy side though, and I have a few body lotions / body butters to use up in my stash.

Makeup Empties:

Essence Cosmetics Lips Go Wow Plumping Lip Gloss – I LOVE this lip plumping gloss. It doesn’t sting or burn like a lot of lip plumpers. I plan on getting another one if they still have them at Shoppers / Pharmaprix.

Smashbox SuperFan Mascara – This was a free deluxe sample with purchase. Its a nice mascara, but didn’t hold a curl well for me, so I would not purchase a full size. I think that it is a great mascara if you don’t have stick straight lashes like I do!

So there you have it, the final empties for 2020. I’ve already finished up a few things this month, so I might return to a monthly empties format as long as I finish up a minimum of five products each month.

I’ll be back next week with some Bath and Body product reviews.

Huge Make-Up Declutter 2020

Hello, hello – welcome to / welcome back to A Brash Attitude!

I’ve been gradually sorting through my make-up collection and have started the process of decluttering products that are either mega old, or products that I just don’t reach for. I’ll link to any reviews in case you want to check them out.

Blushes and bronzers:

Tarte, Juice Beauty, Sothys*, and Too Faced. All of these, with the exception of the Juice Beauty are more than four years old. The Juice Beauty cream blush is more recent, but sadly, it has started to dry out.

Lipsticks:

ColourPop, Maison Jacynthe*, Essence, Axiology, KVD* and NudeStix – most of these are several years old, and have started to go off.

The ColourPop, Hikari and Too Faced are old and I cannot remember the last time that I used them. The Juice Beauty Foundation has started to go off, the scent has changed – it smells like paint.

Highlighters:

These are all quite old – ColourPop, Essence, Wet N Wild, and Brazen – and I never reach for them anymore.

Have you done a makeup declutter?

Cumulative Monthly Empties April to July 2020

Hello, hello! Welcome to / welcome back to A Brash Attitude!

Today I have a cumulative empties post. I decided to only do a monthly empties post if I have at least 5 products finished. So now I have empties collecting from April to July! I’ll let you know if I plan to re-buy or not, either right away or eventually, and link to my original reviews.

Haircare & Bodycare:

Monthly Empties Apr to Jul 2020 1

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask and Scalp Revival Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo – these were minis form the Sephora annual birthday gift. Loved both of these, I would like to buy full sizes eventually. Review is here. *Sephora Beauty Insider freebie*

Alba Botanica Hawaiian Body Cream – I LOVE this one. I’ve re-purchased this a few times, and plan on getting it again as soon as I finish up one of the other body creams / lotions in my stash. Review is here.

Skincare:

Monthly Empties Apr to Jul 2020 2

The Inkey List Collagen Booster and Hepta-Peptide Serums – I love facial serums, and will probably re-purchase eventually. I have a few serums on my wish-list that I would like to try first. Reviews are here and here.

Not pictured: There was also an oil cleanser (Aromatica Natural Coconut Cleansing Oil) from my CertClean judging package that I had not yet reviewed, but I cannot find the bottle – I think that the Mister recycled it already, oops! I have a few more oil cleansers to use up, so I won’t need to buy any for awhile! *PR / judging package product*

Makeup:

Monthly Empties Apr to Jul 2020 3

FitGlow Beauty Good Lash + Mascara – I scored this mascara a 5 out of 7. It is a nice mascara, but it isn’t a great one for me personally, as my eyes are way too watery for this formula. Review is here.

Essence All Eyes on Me Waterproof Multi-Effect Mascara – I scored this one a 5.75 out of 7. It didn’t give me enough volume, but it is a good waterproof lengthening mascara – but I want volume. Review is here.

So there you have it, my cumulative monthly empties – I didn’t finish up as much as I thought I would and I have several skincare products that are so close to being finished up, so maybe I’ll have more next time. But progress is progress when it comes to using up products rather than wasting them!

Did you finish up much this month (or over the past couple of months)?

Empties March 2020

Hello, hello!

Today I have my monthly empties post for you. I didn’t finish up as much as I had hoped, but progress is progress when it comes to using up the things in my stash and not wasting them! I’ll include links to my original reviews and let you know if I would want to re-purchase either right away or eventually.

Haircare:

Empties March 2020 1

EVOLVh UltraRepair Reconstructing Masque – This was a PR sample. I loved this hair mask so much, and it is on my wishlist to buy the full size as soon as I use up another mask in my stash. Review is here.

Rahua Classic Shampoo & Conditioner – These were from my Petit Vour subscription. I liked them a lot. I’d like to try more from this brand – maybe for wavy/curly or dry hair. Review is here.

Cake Beauty The Posh Wash and The Soft Serve – These smell so good, and work well with my hair, so I’m sure I’ll eventually buy them again. Review is here.

Skincare and Makeup:

Empties March 2020 - Skincare and Makeup with Moor Spa, Sothys, Essence, Eyes of Horus

Moor Spa Supreme Cream – This was a PR sample. I mainly uses this cream at night, as I prefer something a little lighter in the day time if I’m wearing makeup. I have a few moisturizers in my stash to use up, so no need to even think about purchasing a full size. Review is here.

Sothys Hydra3Ha Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Youth Cream – Another PR sample. This one was great for day or night use. I always need a little hydration boost in the fall and winter months so this worked well for me. I have a few moisturizers in my stash to use up, so no need to even think about purchasing a replacement. Review is here.

Essence Lash Princess Waterproof Mascara – I really liked this mascara, and gave it a score of 6.75 out of 7. I  would definitely re-purchase this one. Review is here.

Eye Of Horus Brow Define – Another Petit Vour box product. This was my very first micro brow pencil. I’ve since purchased one from Essence to try out, but would love to get this one eventually. Review is here.

Essence Make Me Brow Tinted Brow Mascara – I’ve already purchased a new one, it is that good! Reviews are here and here.

So there you have it! Were you able to finish up much this month?
