Lowen’s Natural Skincare Reviews Part 1 -You Sure Clean Up Nice and Get Toned

Lowen's Natural Skincare You Sure Clean Up Nice & Get Toned Vegan Facial Toner

Hello, hello!

if you follow me on InstaGram, you will have seen my unboxing of the awesome box of goodies from Canadian brand Lowen’s Natural Skincare. When the owner reached out to me, of course I was interested in testing out some things – thank you! [info in italics taken from Lowen’s Natural Skincare website]

Lowen's Natural Skincare

A little background on the company:

Lowen’s Natural Skincare is a family-owned and operated skin care company based in Calgary, Alberta. Conceived by a veteran Pharmacist committed to using organic, fair-trade, and/or locally-sourced ingredients, Lowen’s creates unique skin care products that are safe, effective, long-lasting, and affordable.

Their products are made based on four main principals:

  1. Safe for us = safe for you: We ensure that our ingredients are thoroughly evaluated for safety, effectiveness, environmental impact, and animal welfare by the Environmental Working Group (EWG).
  2. Keeping it simple:  What this means is that any single ingredient can provide multiple benefits within a particular product.  This keeps our ingredients list to a minimum number of “simple” components.
  3. Do no harm: We do not test our products on animals nor do we purchase ingredients that have been tested on animals.
  4. Sensible sourcing: We source local, certified organic and/or fair trade ingredients whenever possible and continually review and refine our practices to adhere to the above. If we are unable to find an ingredient close to home, we expand our search to find unrefined, organic, fair-trade ingredients

So yeah, knowing how I feel about skincare and cosmetics, you can see why I was so excited about testing things out! Because there were so many things in the box, I’ve decided to break it up into several parts – today I’m reviewing the You Sure Clean Up Nice (Face & Body Cleanser) and the Get Toned Vegan Facial Toner).

Starting with You Sure Clean Up Nice (Face & Body Cleanser) – to be honest I cringed a little at the thought of using the same cleanser for both face and body. But after doing my usual patch test for sensitivity, I tested it out on both my face and body but I’m going to talk more about using it as a facial cleanser.

Lowen's Natural Skincare You Sure Clean Up Nice Face & Body Cleanser

You Sure Clean up Nice!  Facial Cleanser is simply luxurious and like no other cleanser you’ve tried. We have formulated You Sure Clean up Nice! for all skin types but extra care was taken to ensure that it will be gentle on the most sensitive of skin types. (like all of our products).

Lowen's Natural Skincare You Sure Clean Up Nice Face & Body Cleanser

This cleanser is a sensitive skin dream! It is super gentle, but cleans really well – removes makeup without leaving my skin feeling tight or dry and doesn’t leave a residue. Because it is formulated for sensitive skin, it has no added fragrance, so it smells like its ingredients (basically, it barely smells like anything)! This would be great to take for travelling since it can be used on face and body.

Now onto the toner – Get Toned:

Lowen's Natural Skincare Get Toned Vegan Facial Toner

Get Toned! is a very clean, safe and simple facial toner. Having only 8 ingredients, they have been carefully selected to get the job done! Formulated with the refreshing and calming effects of lavender floral water, combined with the moisturizing and conditioning powers of  glycerin and Hydresia®.  Get Toned follows our mission perfectly as it is truly safe, effective…better!

Lowen's Natural Skincare Get Toned Vegan Facial Toner

I love facial toner / facial mists. This one has minimal ingredients and it is so refreshing to use after I wash my face. It smells beautiful due to the lavender. Very gentle, and hydrating.

So there you have it, part one of my Lowen’s Natural Skincare reviews. More to follow this week! Have you tried anything from Lowen’s?

Thanks for reading

Empties – December 2018

Empties December 2018 - Lily De Mai, Harmony + Blossom, Essence, Hurraw

Hello, hello!

As per usual, I’ve kept my empties for the month. I did not manage to finish up very many things in December, but since my goal is to use things up, any empties are progress in my quest to not let products go to waste.

Let’s take a look, and I will link to reviews and let you know if I will be repurchasing or not.

Empties December 2018 - Essence, Lily De Mai, Harmony & Blossom, Hurraw

Essence I ❤ Extreme Volume Mascara (Waterproof) – I’ve purchased this so many times, this is my HG waterproof mascara. I always go back to this or the Get Big Lashes one after I test out others. Original review is here.

Lily De Mai Bliss Transformative Moisture Mist – I absolutely loved this facial mist and I’m sad that it is empty. I’m putting it on my wishlist as I have a few facial mists in my stash to use up. Original review is here. (PR sample)

Harmony + Blossom Cleansing Clay – This was a super gentle exfoliating clay cleanser. I have a bit of a cleanser stash to work through, so I won’t be purchasing this right now (even though I liked it a lot). Original review is here. (PR sample)

Essence The False Lashes Mascara – This is my fave non-waterproof mascara because it adds volume and holds a curl and I’ve purchased it several times. It even manages to hold up pretty well when my eyes water from laughing! I’ll purchase this again once I finish up another mascara in my stash. Original review is here.

Hurraw Lip Balm (Earl Grey) – I loved this lip balm. It smells like earl grey tea (bergamot). I’m a lip balm addict and just got a ton of new lip balms in my stash, so I won’t replace this just yet. I’m still using the Hurraw Moon Lip Balm at night (when I’m not using my Bite Beauty Lip Mask). Review is here.

Empties December 2018 - Lily De Mai, Harmony + Blossom, Essence, Hurraw

Were you able to finish up much in December?

Thanks for reading.

Pacifica Quinoa Sensitive Super Gentle Face Wash Review

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review of the Quinoa Sensitive Super Gentle Face Wash from Pacifica that I recently purchased from well.ca. [info in italics taken from the Pacifica website]

Pacifica Quinoa Sensitive Super Gentle Face Wash

Fortified with quinoa, sunflower seed oil and calendula, this foaming wash helps you get rid of the junk that blocks your beauty from radiating. Perfect foaming action helps gently lift dirt and debris to the surface so you can cleanse, remove dirt, makeup and even pollutants while helping balance. Calendula and aloe are great for even the most sensitive skin types.

Pacifica Quinoa Sensitive Super Gentle Face Wash

This cleanser is so gentle, and you only need the smallest amount – it foams up amazingly well! This is perfect for the most sensitive skins (unless you have an allergy or intolerance to one of the ingredients).

It works really well to remove makeup (except for waterproof mascara), and rinses clean without leaving my skin feeling dry or irritated. It works really well to calm the skin.

Pacifica Quinoa Sensitive Super Gentle Face Wash

Ingredients: aqua, glycerin, sodium cocoyl glutamate, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, gluconolactone (corn), cetearyl glucoside, capric/caprylic/triglycerides, water, glycerine, caprylyl glycol, propanediol, glyceryl undecylenate, sucrose stearate, decyl glucoside, oryza sativa (rice) extract, glyceryl caprylate, bioflavanoids, potassium sorbate, parfum (natural), chenopodium quinoa seed extract, calendula officinalis flower extract.

This product is cruelty free and vegan (yay!). Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Disclosure: I purchased this.

LunnaBeauty Cleansing Facial Polish Review

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review of the Cleansing Facial Polish from new Canadian Etsy store – LunnaBeauty. The creator, Ria, reached out to me to see if I would like to try out one of their hand-crafted skincare products.

LunnaBeauty Cleansing Facial Polish

A little bit about LunnaBeauty – based in Toronto, Ria is originally from India, and her products are based on recipes handed down from her grandmother. There are currently three products in the line – Cleansing Pixie Sticks (this is the Facial Polish in a different packaging format), Wakeup Cleansing Cubes, and Facial Cleansing Grains.

LunnaBeauty Cleansing Facial Polish

The key ingredients of the Cleansing Facial Polish are: organic rice for exfoliation and brightness, sugar for moisture and exfoliation, and clay for deep cleaning. The Pixie Cleansing Sticks also have lavender, almond and jojoba oils (for soothing and calming). My jar definitely did not contain lavender but I think that is a good addition as the powder does need a hint of scent (otherwise it smells really bland) and calming properties are always a plus in my opinion.

I did a patch test first (as I always do for all skincare), with the powder mixed with water to test for any reaction / sensitivity to the ingredients. After my patch test showed no problems, I used it every couple of days as my skin does tolerate daily exfoliation. I liked mixing it with rose water – both for the scent and for the added soothing properties. It was gentle on my sensitive skin.

LunnaBeauty Cleansing Facial Polish

Bonus tip – it works really well to soften dry hands!

What is your favourite exfoliation product? Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Disclosure: PR sample. However my opinion is always my own.

Odacité Black Mint Cleanser Review

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review of the Black Mint Cleanser from Odacité that came in my August Petit Vour box. [info in italics taken from the Petit Vour website]

Odacité Black Mint Cleanser

This ultra-fresh minty gel transforms into a purifying foam that delivers an instant deep cleanse, eliminating excess oil, impurities, environmental toxins and makeup. Deeply purified, skin is invigorated with an extraordinary feeling of freshness. Complexion is clear and mattified, while hydration is preserved. Deep-cleanse combination, oily, or acne-prone skin. Skin is clear, invigorated and mattified.

Because this cleanser has tea tree oil in it, I did two patch tests instead of my usual one, the first one on my arm, and the second one on my neck before trying it on my face – thankfully no reaction, so I was able to test it out for several days without incident.

Odacité Black Mint Cleanser

The cleanser is blackish-grey on the skin and smells super minty. It has a pleasant cooling tingle (and not the scary face melting kind)! The Black Mint Cleanser made my skin feel deeply cleansed without drying it out. I really like this facial cleanser!

Because my skin is both sensitive and in the normal to dry range, I personally would not use this every day, but probably once, maybe twice a week for a deep clean. I think that it would work amazingly well as a daily cleanser for oily or acne prone skin.

Ingredients 100% Cruelty-Free and Vegan | Water [Aqua], Algal Betaine [Capric/Lauric/Myristic/Oleic Amidopropyl Betaine], Decyl Glucoside, Lauryl/ Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Apple Amino Acids, Xanthan Gum, Activated Charcoal, Rhassoul Clay [Moroccan Lava Clay], Tea Tree Leaf Oil [Melaleuca Altemifolia], Peppermint Oil [Mentha Piperita], Rosemary Leaf Extract [Rosmarinus Officinalis*], Sunflower Seed Oil [Helianthus Annuus*], Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Glyceryl Caprylate, Glycerin, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate. | *Certified Organic Ingredients.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Disclosure: This came in my Petit Vour subscription that I pay for.

Harmony + Blossom Cleansing Clay – Jasmine & Chrysanthemum Review

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review of the Cleansing Clay (Jasmine & Chrysanthemum) from Harmony + Blossom, a Canadian company that makes luxurious, handcrafted, botanical skincare. The owner / founder reached out to me, and I was intrigued to test out their products because they are a cruelty free Canadian company! [info in italics taken from the Harmony + Blossom website]

Harmony + Blossom Cleansing Clay

Harmony + Blossom Cleansing Clay

Rejuvenate, nourish and balance your skin with this Cleansing Clay handcrafted with Coconut Milk, Banana, Licorice Root, Rice Powder, Jasmine, Chrysanthemum and French Pink Clay. The nourishing dry powder formula gently yet deeply cleanses to remove makeup, dirt and impurities.

Skin Type: Ideal for all skin types including sensitive and acne-prone complexions.

This Product Addresses: Dehydration, dullness, impurities, inflammation, breakouts.

The packaging is very pretty with its floral watercolour print, and it has all of the product information on it – what it is, how to use it, and the ingredients. I particularly love the message inside the top flap (pictured above right).

The first thing that I did after photographing the packing and product, was to do my usual skin patch test to check for product sensitivity even though it is formulated to be safe for sensitive skin types.

Harmony + Blossom Cleansing Clay

In my experience, my skin doesn’t do well with daily exfoliation. Because I know this, I’ve been using the Cleansing Clay once every two to three days. But if your skin does well with daily exfoliation I can see it being a great daily cleanser. It is formulated to work for all skin types – even sensitive and acne prone skins.

Harmony + Blossom Cleansing Clay

The Cleansing Clay gives a gentle exfoliating effect – it is not at all rough or scratchy. The grainy bits are very fine, and the combination of ingredients both cleanses and soothes the skin so it feels super clean without being irritated for dried out.

If you recall, I  do not usually like products with Jasmine in them, but for some reason, I cannot smell the Jasmine when I use the Cleansing Clay. It must blend in with the other ingredients in a way that works for my nose!

Ingredients: French Pink (Lilite) Clay, Coconut Milk (Maltodextrin and Milk Protein) Powder*, Rice Powder (Oryza Sativa)*, Banana Extract (Musa Apientum)*, Licorice Root Extract (Glycyrrhiza Glabra)*, Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum Parthenium) Botanical Extract*, Jasmine (Jasmine Grandiflorum) Botanical Powder*. *Certified Organic Ingredient

Harmony + Blossom Cleansing Clay

Do you use exfoliating cleansers in your skincare routine? Or are you more into using chemical (acid type) exfoliating products?

Harmony + Blossom’s range of skincare products include a Cleansing Facial Nectar, a Jasmine & Rose Floral Essence, a Jasmine & White Tea Facial Nectar, a Peony & Diamonds Facial Dew, and  Radiance Beauty Mask.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Lily de Mai Sensitive Skincare – Renew and Bliss Reviews

Hello, hello!

As you all probably know, I have sensitive skin. Lily de Mai is a line of skincare formulated for sensitive skin – so when the owner and founder reached out to me, of course I was very interested in testing out two of their products – the Renew Restorative Calming Cream Cleanser and the Bliss NMF Transformative Moisture Mist.  [info in italics taken from the Lily de Mai website]

Lily de Mai

Lily de Mai

Even though the line is formulated for sensitive skin, I still did my usual skin patch test before trying the products on my face. I find that this really helps prevent any disastrous skin reactions – otherwise known as the face melting off effect!

Lily de Mai

Renew Restorative Calming Cream Cleanser:

Lily de Mai

Reveal fresh, vibrant, and renewed skin with this rich, restorative botanical cream cleanser.   Organic Argan oil, Avocado oil, and Shea Butter soften skin and fortify the protective skin barrier. Allantoin encourages cell turnover and radiance while a botanical blend of four comforting herbs calm and soothe skin. Soap and surfactant free, non-drying, thoroughly effective and supremely gentle, a perfect daily cleanser for sensitive skin.

The Restore Cream Cleanser is SO gentle, yet my face feels super clean and hydrated after using. The cleanser feels silky and calming, and the scent is minimal – perfect for sensitive skin like mine. I’ve been using this cleanser both day and night for the past two weeks, and my skin looks and feels so smooth.

Bliss – NMF Transformative Moisture Mist

Lily de Mai

15 active ingredients, featuring skin-identical Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF), Sodium PCA and Hyaluronic Acid, dramatically enhance and maintain skin hydration.  Niacinamide brightens dull, uneven skin tone.  Yeast Oligopeptide and Soy Amino Acids help to support the protective skin barrier and encourage collagen production.  Raw earth, bio-available minerals balance oil production, minimize pores and remineralize skin.   While a blend of seven organic botanicals calm distressed skin and help to reduce redness.  Your skin is fortified against daily environmental stress, blissfully hydrated, beautifully firm and luminous.
