Three Ships Beauty Awake Rose Hydrosol Toner Review

Three Ships Beauty Awake Rose Hydrosol Toner

Hello, hello – welcome to / welcome back to A Brash Attitude!

Today I have a review of the Three Ships Beauty Awake Rose Hydrosol Toner. I purchased it during their 5th Birthday Event, along with the Soothe Rosehip Vitamin C Clay Mask. [info in italics taken from the Three Ships Beauty website]

Three Ships Beauty Awake Rose Hydrosol Toner

Rose hydrosol helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and hyperpigmentation while also maintaining the skin’s pH balance after cleansing.

Look closer: this toner also contains alcohol-free witch hazel, which shrinks the appearance of pores without leaving your skin feeling tight and parched.

Three Ships Beauty Awake Rose Hydrosol Toner

This toner has a great sprayer – the mist of so fine. And hello – rose! I love rose in skincare. This is a great addition to my skincare routine. I tend to use it more in the morning, but it can be used both morning and night. It is just so fresh!

I can see myself using it as a skin refresher when the weather warms up.

Three Ships Beauty Awake Rose Hydrosol Toner

It only contains 5 ingredients – all of which are vegan (and cruelty free):

*Rosa Damascena (Rose) Distillate, *ᵀAloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, *ᵀHamamelis Virginiana (Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel) Water, Glycerin, *ᵀRosa Canina (Rosehip Extract) [* Non-GMO, ᵀ Organic]

Akar Skin Balance Toning Mist

Hello, hello!

Today I am reviewing the Balance Toning Mist from Akar Skin that came in my October Petit Vour box. [info in italics taken from the Petit Vour website]

Akar Skin Balance Toning Mist

This fine, non-sticky mist of rose and orange blossom sets gently into skin to provide hydration. Balance enables greater absorption of nutrients by lowering skin’s surface tension. Formulated to strengthen the acid mantle layer by restoring pH to optimum level and keeping environmental pathogens out.

Akar Skin Balance Toning Mist

The mist does not contain irritants like alcohol, nor is it watered down with water fillers, ensuring noticeably softer and luminous skin with use. For all skin types.

Akar Skin Balance Toning Mist

This is a beautiful facial toner mist! It is super gentle and so refreshing on the skin. My skin feels hydrated and soft after using.

I love that it has a minimal ingredient list as well:

Ingredients 100% Cruelty-Free and Vegan | *Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Water, *Citrus Aurantium Amara (Neroli) Flower Water, Aqua, Salix Alba (White Willow) Bark Extract, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Crocus Sativus Meristem (Saffron) Cell Extract, Lactobacillus Ferment. | *Organic or Wildharvested

Shamanuti Seaweed Toner

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review fo the Seaweed Toner from Shamanuti that came in my February Petit Vour box. [info in italics taken from the Petit Vour website]

Shamanuti Seaweed Toner1

Skin loves this delicious nutrient and mineral rich toner. It adjusts pH and refines the pores. It will nourish and hydrate the skin while removing any residual make-up or cleanser. Excellent to set makeup as well as a calming aftershave. Always carry this as a companion on long drives or airplane trips to give skin a refresher along your travels. Suitable for all skin types.

Shamanuti Seaweed Toner

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you will know that I absolutely love facial toner / sprays, so I was super excited to see one in the February box.

So how is it? The toner is really fresh and gentle on the skin. I like that it is aloe based. My only complaint is that it doesn’t come out as a fine mist but more of a full on spray. I plan to pour it into another bottle that has a fine mist spray.  The Seaweed Toner has a mild and pleasant scent – I can’t identify exactly what is smells like, but it is nice.

Shamanuti Seaweed Toner

100% Cruelty-Free and Vegan | Aloe Barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Leaf Juice, Ascophyllum Nodosum (Organic Kelp) Extract, Aphanizomenon Flos Aquae (Organic Blue Green Algae) Extract, Sodium Benzoate, Glucolactone, Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid), Salix nigra (Black Willowbark) Extract, Sodium Chloride (Dead Sea Salt), Glycerin, Essential Oils, Citric Acid

Lowen’s Natural Skincare Reviews Part 1 -You Sure Clean Up Nice and Get Toned

Lowen's Natural Skincare You Sure Clean Up Nice & Get Toned Vegan Facial Toner

Hello, hello!

if you follow me on InstaGram, you will have seen my unboxing of the awesome box of goodies from Canadian brand Lowen’s Natural Skincare. When the owner reached out to me, of course I was interested in testing out some things – thank you! [info in italics taken from Lowen’s Natural Skincare website]

Lowen's Natural Skincare

A little background on the company:

Lowen’s Natural Skincare is a family-owned and operated skin care company based in Calgary, Alberta. Conceived by a veteran Pharmacist committed to using organic, fair-trade, and/or locally-sourced ingredients, Lowen’s creates unique skin care products that are safe, effective, long-lasting, and affordable.

Their products are made based on four main principals:

  1. Safe for us = safe for you: We ensure that our ingredients are thoroughly evaluated for safety, effectiveness, environmental impact, and animal welfare by the Environmental Working Group (EWG).
  2. Keeping it simple:  What this means is that any single ingredient can provide multiple benefits within a particular product.  This keeps our ingredients list to a minimum number of “simple” components.
  3. Do no harm: We do not test our products on animals nor do we purchase ingredients that have been tested on animals.
  4. Sensible sourcing: We source local, certified organic and/or fair trade ingredients whenever possible and continually review and refine our practices to adhere to the above. If we are unable to find an ingredient close to home, we expand our search to find unrefined, organic, fair-trade ingredients

So yeah, knowing how I feel about skincare and cosmetics, you can see why I was so excited about testing things out! Because there were so many things in the box, I’ve decided to break it up into several parts – today I’m reviewing the You Sure Clean Up Nice (Face & Body Cleanser) and the Get Toned Vegan Facial Toner).

Starting with You Sure Clean Up Nice (Face & Body Cleanser) – to be honest I cringed a little at the thought of using the same cleanser for both face and body. But after doing my usual patch test for sensitivity, I tested it out on both my face and body but I’m going to talk more about using it as a facial cleanser.

Lowen's Natural Skincare You Sure Clean Up Nice Face & Body Cleanser

You Sure Clean up Nice!  Facial Cleanser is simply luxurious and like no other cleanser you’ve tried. We have formulated You Sure Clean up Nice! for all skin types but extra care was taken to ensure that it will be gentle on the most sensitive of skin types. (like all of our products).

Lowen's Natural Skincare You Sure Clean Up Nice Face & Body Cleanser

This cleanser is a sensitive skin dream! It is super gentle, but cleans really well – removes makeup without leaving my skin feeling tight or dry and doesn’t leave a residue. Because it is formulated for sensitive skin, it has no added fragrance, so it smells like its ingredients (basically, it barely smells like anything)! This would be great to take for travelling since it can be used on face and body.

Now onto the toner – Get Toned:

Lowen's Natural Skincare Get Toned Vegan Facial Toner

Get Toned! is a very clean, safe and simple facial toner. Having only 8 ingredients, they have been carefully selected to get the job done! Formulated with the refreshing and calming effects of lavender floral water, combined with the moisturizing and conditioning powers of  glycerin and Hydresia®.  Get Toned follows our mission perfectly as it is truly safe, effective…better!

Lowen's Natural Skincare Get Toned Vegan Facial Toner

I love facial toner / facial mists. This one has minimal ingredients and it is so refreshing to use after I wash my face. It smells beautiful due to the lavender. Very gentle, and hydrating.

So there you have it, part one of my Lowen’s Natural Skincare reviews. More to follow this week! Have you tried anything from Lowen’s?

Thanks for reading

Empties – December 2018

Empties December 2018 - Lily De Mai, Harmony + Blossom, Essence, Hurraw

Hello, hello!

As per usual, I’ve kept my empties for the month. I did not manage to finish up very many things in December, but since my goal is to use things up, any empties are progress in my quest to not let products go to waste.

Let’s take a look, and I will link to reviews and let you know if I will be repurchasing or not.

Empties December 2018 - Essence, Lily De Mai, Harmony & Blossom, Hurraw

Essence I ❤ Extreme Volume Mascara (Waterproof) – I’ve purchased this so many times, this is my HG waterproof mascara. I always go back to this or the Get Big Lashes one after I test out others. Original review is here.

Lily De Mai Bliss Transformative Moisture Mist – I absolutely loved this facial mist and I’m sad that it is empty. I’m putting it on my wishlist as I have a few facial mists in my stash to use up. Original review is here. (PR sample)

Harmony + Blossom Cleansing Clay – This was a super gentle exfoliating clay cleanser. I have a bit of a cleanser stash to work through, so I won’t be purchasing this right now (even though I liked it a lot). Original review is here. (PR sample)

Essence The False Lashes Mascara – This is my fave non-waterproof mascara because it adds volume and holds a curl and I’ve purchased it several times. It even manages to hold up pretty well when my eyes water from laughing! I’ll purchase this again once I finish up another mascara in my stash. Original review is here.

Hurraw Lip Balm (Earl Grey) – I loved this lip balm. It smells like earl grey tea (bergamot). I’m a lip balm addict and just got a ton of new lip balms in my stash, so I won’t replace this just yet. I’m still using the Hurraw Moon Lip Balm at night (when I’m not using my Bite Beauty Lip Mask). Review is here.

Empties December 2018 - Lily De Mai, Harmony + Blossom, Essence, Hurraw

Were you able to finish up much in December?

Thanks for reading.

Lily de Mai Sensitive Skincare – Renew and Bliss Reviews

Hello, hello!

As you all probably know, I have sensitive skin. Lily de Mai is a line of skincare formulated for sensitive skin – so when the owner and founder reached out to me, of course I was very interested in testing out two of their products – the Renew Restorative Calming Cream Cleanser and the Bliss NMF Transformative Moisture Mist.  [info in italics taken from the Lily de Mai website]

Lily de Mai

Lily de Mai

Even though the line is formulated for sensitive skin, I still did my usual skin patch test before trying the products on my face. I find that this really helps prevent any disastrous skin reactions – otherwise known as the face melting off effect!

Lily de Mai

Renew Restorative Calming Cream Cleanser:

Lily de Mai

Reveal fresh, vibrant, and renewed skin with this rich, restorative botanical cream cleanser.   Organic Argan oil, Avocado oil, and Shea Butter soften skin and fortify the protective skin barrier. Panthenol and Hyaluronic Acid help to increase and maintain optimum hydration levels. Allantoin encourages cell turnover and radiance while a botanical blend of four comforting herbs calm and soothe skin. Soap and surfactant free, non-drying, thoroughly effective and supremely gentle, a perfect daily cleanser for sensitive skin.

The Restore Cream Cleanser is SO gentle, yet my face feels super clean and hydrated after using. The cleanser feels silky and calming, and the scent is minimal – perfect for sensitive skin like mine. I’ve been using this cleanser both day and night for the past two weeks, and my skin looks and feels so smooth.

Lily Lolo Makeup Mist Review

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review of the Makeup Mist from cruelty free brand Lily Lolo that came in my November Petit Vour subscription box. [all info in italics taken from the Petit Vour website]

Lily Lolo Makeup Mist

A refreshing mist that sets make-up and prolongs its hold, specifically formulated to leave make-up looking flawless without smudging or setting into fine lines. The perfect final step for flawless, long-lasting makeup.

I don’t think that I’ve ever tried a makeup setting spray before, so I was excited to test this one out. This is also the first Lily Lolo product that I’ve tried!

Taking a look at the ingredient list (which is not only cruelty free, but also vegan), there are loads of skin friendly ingredients.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Panthenol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice Powder, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Citric Acid, Lycium Chinense (Goji Berry) Fruit Extract, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Fruit Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract)

Lily Lolo2

The Lily Lolo Makeup Mist does help my makeup stay fresh looking, and helps to set it. The mist also makes a nice skin refresher on no-makeup days when my skin needs a blast of refreshing moisture. As an added plus, it has little to no scent.

My only complaint is that the sprayer / nozzle is inconsistent, not always a gentle mist, sometimes more of a splatter – which smears my makeup instead of setting it. I plan to put it into a bottle with a better sprayer / nozzle because I’d like to continue using this setting spray.

I’d like to try more from Lily Lolo.

Have you tried this setting spray? If not, which one do you use? Or do you not use setting sprays?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!
