Covergirl Clean Fresh Skin Milk Foundation Review

Hello, hello! Welcome to / welcome back to A Brash Attitude!

Today I have a review of the Covergirl Fresh Skin Milk Foundation – I’ve already reviewed the matching pressed powder, and now I’ve finally purchased and tested the foundation. [info in italics taken from the Covergirl Canada website]

Show off fresh, healthy skin with COVERGIRL Clean Fresh Skin Milk. Formulated without formaldehyde, phthalates, parabens, sulfates and talc, this lightweight nourishing liquid foundation gives your skin the moisture boost it craves with a delicate infusion of milky coconut and soothing aloe. You’ll experience a glowing, dewy finish that lasts all day long, blurring imperfections and creating a more even skin tone. Pro-tip: Use COVERGIRL TruBlend Face Primer before applying for an even more flawless finish.

The foundation is available in 14 shades, ranging from Porcelain to Dark. I still think that the shade range could be expanded more. I purchased the shade 520 Fair, as the lightest shade looked too light for me.

Shadewise, I think that Fair is pretty close to my natural skin tone. This foundation is super lightweight and hydrating and the finish is very natural looking and radiant. The coverage is light, but buildable, and it evens out my skintone. I think that this is a good choice if your skin is on the normal to dry side. I’m not sure if the dewy finish would work for oily skin.

Have you tried this foundation?

Nyx Cosmetics Born to Glow Naturally Radiant Foundation Review

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the Born to Glow Naturally Radiant Foundation from Nyx Cosmetics – I purchased it a few weeks ago, and have been trying it out. [info in italics taken from the Nyx Canada website]

Nyx Born to Glow Naturally Radiant Foundation

We. Can’t. Even. The brand-new Born to Glow! Naturally Radiant Foundation is so glowrious. Available in an inclusive range of 45 truly flattering shades, our covetable formula delivers buildable medium coverage and a naturally radiant finish that lasts. This liquid foundation blends like a dream and even works with your skin to help create a smooth, even-toned look. Turn up the luminosity with our other Born to Glow! must-haves.

Nyx Born to Glow Naturally Radiant Foundation

This foundation is available in 45 shades – pretty great range for a drugstore foundation! ranging from Pale to Deep Ebony, with cool, neutral and warm undertones. I purchased the shade light porcelain – which is a great match for my pale winter skintone.

Nyx Born to Glow Naturally Radiant Foundation

The coverage feels light on the skin, but the coverage is medium. The finish is radiant and natural looking. Just make sure that your moisturizer and / or primer has fully absorbed into the skin before applying the foundation – or else you might get some pilling – which I did once or twice when in a hurry! But when I take the time to let things absorb, this foundation plays nicely with my skincare.

I think that it is a great budget friendly foundation if you want a natural, radiant, healthy skin look!

Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Flawless Serum Foundation Review (Rosy Beige)

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Flawless Serum Foundation that I purchased recently after doing a de-clutter of a lot of old foundations from my stash. I mainly only wear foundation in the colder months, and a tinted BB cream with SPF in the warmer months. Since I’d tried and loved Juice Beauty’s Stem Cellular CC Cream, I decided to try their serum foundation. [info in italics taken from the Juice Beauty website]

Juice Beauty Serum Foundation

Skin perfecting foundation and age-defying serum in one with concentrated plant-derived Phyto-Pigments. This buildable to full-coverage formula blends seamlessly for a flawless finish while delivering a noticeably smoother, more youthful looking appearance. Formulated without silicones, its hydrating coconut alkanes and antioxidant-rich technology provides comfort, as well as leaving skin looking radiant.

Juice Beauty Serum Foundation in Rosy Beige

I ordered this foundation online, and took a chance on the shade Rosy Beige for light skin with pink undertones. When I first opened the package I thought that it was going to be way too dark for me, but thankfully the shade match is perfect once blended in!

Juice Beauty Serum Foundation in Rosy Beige

Because this is a watery serum formula, I find that I get the smoothest and most even application by using my fingers, and then buffing / blending with either a sponge or foundation brush.

The coverage is buildable, but I prefer to keep it on the light to medium side. The finish is very smooth and radiant – great for when you want glowing skin!

Best of 2017 – Makeup

Hello, hello!

Today I’m sharing my top makeup picks for 2017. These are all new to me products that I’ve tested out during the year, and do not include any old favourites. These products are the most used, and most loved additions to my makeup collection in 2017.

Best of 2017 Makeup

Masion Jacynthe Fluide de Teint / Fluid Foundation (PR Sample) – This is the perfect foundation for this time of year when my skin needs extra moisture as this is a hydrating and dewy finish foundation. I’ve been adding in a little of one of my paler foundations to get a perfect shade match for my winter pale skin. Reviewed here.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation – This is a great all year round foundation as it contains some SPF, and is lightweight, with what I would call a semi-matte finish (not a super flat matte). I have this in two shades (1.2P and 1.1N). I’d like to try the 1.1P next. Lately I’ve been mixing the two together to make the perfect shade for me! Reviewed here and here.

Milani The Multitasker Face Powder – I use this powder to set my Maison Jacynthe Fluid Foundation, to make the finish is little less dewy, and to cut down on shine on my nose for other foundations. Reviewed here.

Maison Jacynthe Illuminateur / Illuminator  (PR Sample) – I have this in the shade Sparkling Sun, a pale gold toned highlighter. It is great for adding a subtle glow to the skin. Out of all the highlighters that I own, I seem to use this one the most. Reviewed here.

Hey Honey Active Propolis Cream Concealer – This concealer works so well for the under eye area as it hydrates and conceals. Reviewed here.

Best of 2017 Makeup

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipsticks in Pepper, Rhubarb, and Verbena – I’ve been wearing these lipsticks ALL THE TIME since purchasing my first one in the spring. The best lipstick formula I’ve ever tried. Reviewed here, here and here.

Sothys Paris Velvet Effect Lipstick in Rose le Pic (PR Sample) – This lipstick formula comes close to the perfection of the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick. It is a very wearable rose shade that I’ve been wearing a lot. Reviewed here.

Essence Cosmetics The False Lashes Mascara – This is the best non-waterproof mascara I’ve ever tried. My eyes water easily, so most non-waterproof mascaras are a no-go for me. This one has everything I look for in a mascara – deep, dark, ultra black, volumizing, lengthening, AND hold a curl without flaking or running / smearing. I need to pick up a new tube asap! Reviewed here.

What were your most favourite products for 2017?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

The Ordinary Serum Foundation 1.1N Swatching

Hello, hello!

I’ve reviewed this foundation in the shade 1.2P light with pink undertones that I’ve been wearing all summer. I tend to switch to a lighter shade for the colder months so I decided to try out the shade 1.1N fair neutral. This is less of a review and more of a swatching and comparison post as the formula is the same as what I’ve already reviewed here. (info in italics taken from The Ordinary website).

Serum Foundations are lightweight medium-coverage formulations available in a comprehensive shade range across 21 shades. These foundations offer moderate coverage that looks natural with a very lightweight serum feel.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation 1.1N Fair Neutral

The pigments used in this format are treated for a rich, highly-saturated effect. These pigments are suspended in our proprietary spreadability system that allows pigments to look natural on the skin, resist collecting within fine lines and stay on for longer. The foundations offer a semi-matte finish and are compatible with most primers

The Ordinary Serum Foundation 1.1N Fair Neutral

I love how lightweight and natural this foundation looks and feels on my skin.

How does this shade compare to my other foundations?

Swatched from left to right: Nyx Total Control drop foundation in Porcelain , The Ordinary Serum Foundation 1.1N Fair Neutral, The Ordinary Serum Foundation in 1.2P Light with Pink Tones, and Maison Jacynthe Fluid Foundation in Porcelain.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation 1.1N Fair Neutral

Here’s another swatch with the foundations very slightly blended out:

The Ordinary Serum Foundation 1.1N Fair Neutral

Shade 1.1N blends really well with my current level of pale to fair skintone.

Do you wear the same shade of foundation all year? Or do you change shades?

Maison Jacynthe Fluid Foundation Review

Hello, hello!

I was recently sent a lovely package from Maison Jacynthe of some of their new product launches. I’ve previously reviewed products from Maison Jacynthe (here and here) and really loved them, so I was super excited to open my package!

Maison Jacynthe

I received three products – a Fluid Foundation, an Illuminator / Highlighter, and a Nail Polish. Today I’m reviewing the Fluid Foundation.

Information in italics is taken from the Maison Jacynthe website:

This liquid foundation is easy to apply. Provides a perfect camouflage with an ultra natural finish. Its light texture gives you a more even tone and its formula, made with borage oil and coffee extracts, will keep your skin moisturized and protected. Soft texture and delicate perfume from argan. This fluid cream is a staple for daily makeup. Available in 5 colors: Porcelain, Sand, Cream, Golden Beige and Hazelnut.

The Fluid Foundation comes in a glass bottle, with a pump – which is always a nice touch. A foundation should always come with either a pump or a dropper.

Maison Jacynthe

This is light coverage foundation has a dewy finish, but can be mattified slightly with powder. Shade-wise, I chose the lightest shade – Porcelain, and when I first swatched it on my arm, it looked very yellow toned on my skin – but when blended, it works well with my colouring.

(BENEFITS AND ACTIVE INGREDIENTS): COFFEE: High in chlorogenic acid, a family of esters acting as antioxidants. Helps with collagen production and improves elasticity.  BORAGE OIL: This oil nourishes the skin thanks to its high concentration of linoleic and gamma-linolenic acids which are high in omega-6. It plays an important role when it comes to hydration and elasticity, especially when used on dry, irritated and more mature skin. Age-defying due to its strong regenerating power. Has also calming and soothing properties.  OCTYLDODECANOL: Derived from plant. It is a fatty alcohol acting as an emollient when good spreading is required. It brings to the skin a soft and smooth appearance. TOCOPHEROL: Derived from plant. Tocopherol is most commonly known as Vitamin E.

As you can see from the above listed active ingredients, this foundation is geared more for dry, sensitive and / or mature skins. I don’t think that this would work for oily skins as the finish is quite hydrating and dewy. I think that this will be my go to foundation for the colder months when my skin starts to get dry.

Maison Jacynthe5

I’ve worn this foundation on its own, with concealer, with concealer and powder – both with primer and with suncreen. It works really well with my The Ordinary primer, and just ok with my suncreen. On the day that I tested this foundation with sunscreen, it was a super humid day, and I don’t think that any foundation would have worked well! I need further wear tests with the various facial sunscreens in my collection.

Below are comparison swatches with two foundations in my collection – the Nyx Total Control and The Ordinary Serum Foundation:

Maison Jacynthe

Swatches – Nyx / Maison Jacynthe / The Ordinary (2nd photo is only lightly blended)

Nyx – Porcelain shade is better for me in winter, currently a bit too light for me right now, very liquid consistency, lightweight, buildable coverage from light to medium, velvet matte finish (not flat matte).

Maison Jacynthe – Porcelain is yellow toned but workable for my fair pink toned skin, consistency is similar to The Ordinary, lightweight, light coverage, dewy finish, very natural looking.

The Ordinary – 1.2P Light with Pink Undertones, great shade match for me, consistency is liquidy, but not as runny as Nyx, lightweight, and light coverage but slightly higher coverage than Maison Jacynthe, very natural looking.

What is your favourite foundation? Do you prefer matte or dewy finish? Light, medium or heavy coverage?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

The Ordinary Serum Foundation Review

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review of the highly coveted Serum Foundation from The Ordinary.

Descriptions in italics are taken from their website:

Serum Foundations are lightweight medium-coverage formulations available in a comprehensive shade range across 21 shades. These foundations offer moderate coverage that looks natural with a very lightweight serum feel. They are very low in viscosity and are dispensed with the supplied pump or with the optional glass dropper available for purchase separately if preferred.

I chose shade 1.2P (light with pink undertones) and it seems to be a perfect match for my skintone. This Serum Foundation is very liquidy, and lightweight on the skin. I’d say that the coverage is closer to light than to medium, but it is probably buildable to a medium coverage. I prefer light coverage, so this works for me.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation

The pigments used in this format are treated for a rich, highly-saturated effect. These pigments are suspended in our proprietary spreadability system that allows pigments to look natural on the skin, resist collecting within fine lines and stay on for longer. The foundations offer a semi-matte finish and are compatible with most primers and are designed to work exceptionally well with the primers offering from The Ordinary.

This foundation gives my skin a very natural look, it evens out my skintone and doesn’t crease. I’ve tested it alone, with the High Spreadability Fluid Primer (review is here), with concealer, and with sunscreen. It plays well with everything that I’ve tried so far. The finish is very much semi-matte, and not a super flat matte.

I find that applying the foundation with my fingers and then blending out with either a sponge or a foundation brush gives me the best finish. If I apply directly with a sponge, I end up streaky and have to spend longer blending it out.

Serum Foundations sold in the European Union offer an SPF 15 claim. This protection is achieved without the use of chemical sunscreens and only through physical protection from Titanium Dioxide. Additionally, no nano-particles are used to achieve this sun protection. These attributes are unique in foundations because it is exceptionally difficult to create a natural, lightweight look and consistent shades when using only non-nano forms of Titanium Dioxide for sun protection without any chemical sunscreen agents.

I love that the foundation has SPF. Although in the summer I tend to wear higher than SPF 15, but some sunscreen is better than none. But I’ve been wearing my SPF 28 and 30 from MyChelle Dermaceuticals most days underneath the foundation.

Ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Aqua (Water), Caprylyl Methicone, Coconut Alkanes, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Coco Caprylate/Caprate, Dimethicone/PEG-10/15 Crosspolymer, Cetyl Diglyceryl Tris(Trimethylsiloxy)silylethyl Dimethicone, Dipropylene Glycol, Tocopherol, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Hectorite, Sodium Chloride, Hexyl Laurate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Stearic Acid, Alumina, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.
