Empties – June 2019

Hello,  hello!

Another month seems to have flown by, and I have once again managed to finish up a few things. Let’s take a look, and I’ll let you know if I plan on re-buying (either right away, or adding to my wishlist to purchase eventually) or not at all. I’ll also link to any reviews.

Empties June 2019 - Hask, EVOLVh, Nova Scotia Fisherman and Native

Hask Chia Seed Volumizing Dry Shampoo – I already have a replacement in my stash. I like this one because it doesn’t smell too strong, and it doesn’t make my hair feel weird. Review is here.

Evolvh Smart Curl Hydrating Wash and Conditioner – This was part of the EVOLVh Love Your Curls Discovery Kit that was PR Gifted. The bottles are tiny but I got a surprising number of uses from them. Both are going on my wishlist, as I have other shampoo and conditioners to use up in my stash. Review is here.

Native Deodorant Sensitive Formula in Cotton + Lily – I already have a replacement in my stash, in the Rosé Scent, and the regular formula in Vanilla + Rose. I’ve been using Native Deodorants for over a year now. Review for the sensitive formula is here and the regular formula is here.

Nova Scotia Fisherman Naturally Moisturizing Hand & Body Cream – The only reason why I haven’t replaced this is because they were sold out at my local pharmacy the last time that I was buying body lotion, so I bought something else instead. I’ll definitely buy it again because it works so well and the scent is mild. Review is here.

Empties June 2019 - The Ordinary, Milani

The Ordinary Argireline Solution – This was in my recent mini project pan, it took me longer to finish than I thought it would. I have so many serums on my wishlist that I want to try, so I probably won’t re-purchase for awhile. Review is here.

Camille Beckman Glycerine Hand Therapy English Lavender – This was part of a birthday gift that I received. It was a great hand cream for winter, the glycerine made it long lasting. This was never reviewed.

Milani The Multitasker Face Powder in shade 02 Light Medium. This took me so long to finish after hitting pan. I even re-pressed it! I have other face powders to finish in my stash, so I won’t re-purchase right now. Review is here.

Not pictured: Le Prunier Plum Beauty Oil – this was a Petit Vour sample. I managed to finish it up, and dropped it in the sink while rinsing it out. I really liked this facial oil, but have a few in my stash to finish up. Review is here.

Empties June 2019 -Makeup De-Stash Essenece, Stila, Tarte, Nyx

De-Stash / De-Clutter of Old Makeup: These are all more than two years old (the white eyeliner is way older than that) – time to de-stash!

Did you manage to finish up much this past month?

Thanks for reading

Hask Chia Seed Volumizing Dry Shampoo Review

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review of the Chia Seed Volumizing Shampoo from Hask that I recently purchased. (Info in italics taken from the Hask website)

Hask Chia Seed Volumizing Dry Shampoo

Infused with a floral tea scent – Long-lasting Oil Absorption

Free of: sulfates, parabens, phthalates, gluten and artificial colors. Your ultimate hair care pick-me-up is now easier than lather, rinse and repeat. Skip a wash and extend your style with this lightweight, chia seed infused formula to transform hair from lifeless to voluminous. Ultra-fine rice starch acts quickly to soak up oil, sweat and odour leaving hair big, bouncy and clean. Amping up your beauty routine has never been this easy!

I have three main criteria for evaluating a dry shampoo, the first and most important is does it make my hair look clean. The second is does it make my hair feel clean, and not dry and straw like. And the third and final is the scent, is it mild and pleasant or strong and awful.

Hask Chia Seed Volumizing Dry Shampoo

So how does the Chia Seed Volumizing Dry Shampoo measure up?

My hair is approximately bra strap length, and is thick and wavy. My hair is normal at the roots, drier at the ends. I mostly use a dry shampoo to get an extra day between washes, so I can go 3 days, before I need to wash my hair if I use dry shampoo after day 2.

It works pretty well to make my hair look and feel clean and add volume. It doesn’t leave a white or grey cast on my dark brunette hair, nor does it make it feel dry or gross. And it doesn’t irritate my scalp like some dry shampoos. Scent-wise, it is mild and pleasant –  a floral tea scent – so no complaints there.

Hask Chia Seed Volumizing Dry Shampoo

I’d like to try some of the other dry shampoos in this line to see how they compare. It is also available in Argan, Coconut, Charcoal and Kalahari Melon – out of which I’d try them all except for Coconut because as you all know, I really dislike coconut scents.

Have you tried this dry shampoo? What is your fave?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Hask Charcoal with Citrus Oil Purifying Deep Conditioner Review

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the Charcoal with Citrus Oil Purifying Deep Conditioner from Hask.

Here’s what it says on the website:

This deep conditioner is a super-moisturizing, clarifying treatment that will nourish and soften all hair types, (including color treated hair). Charcoal, derived from coconut shells, combined with citrus oil, absorbs impurities and helps restore hair to its natural radiance. We promise, the charcoal washes out!

Hask Charcoal with Citrus Purifying Deep Conditioner

I did not know what to expect with a charcoal and citrus blend – something like burnt lemons I guess. But this deep conditioner smells really AMAZING.

This one doesn’t look the most appealing as it is a pale gray with black specks.

Hask Charcoal with Citrus Purifying Deep Conditioner

I applied the conditioner and left it on for 20 minutes before rinsing it out. I applied my Briogeo Curl Charisma and styled my hair as usual, letting my hair air dry.

The result?

My hair felt soft and did not feel weighed down or waxy. I like this one, but I think that I prefer the Argan Oil one the best for deep conditioning (reviewed here), even though the Charcoal one has the best scent!

Hask Argan Oil Repairing Deep Conditioner Review

Hello, hello!

I’m back with another review of the Hask Deep Conditioners, this time with the Argan Oil Intense Repairing Deep Conditioner pack. I’ve already reviewed the Keratin Protein (smoothing) one.

Hask Argan Oil Intense Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment

Here’s what it says on the Hask website:

Argan Oil from Morocco Repairing Deep Conditioner. HASK Argan Oil Intense Deep Conditioning Treatment, is a super strengthening, hydrating treatment that will restore and smooth dry, damaged, chemically treated or over processed hair. Argan oil, unique to Morocco, is known for its high absorbing, penetrating and split end qualities while leaving even the most damaged hair soft and nourished for added moisture. Treat your hair with this nourishing deep conditioning treatment, formulated to bring life back into your luscious looking locks!

My hair is getting pretty long, it is roughly about halfway down my back, thick, and wavy. It tends to get drier in the winter, so a deep conditioning treatment is necessary to help keep my hair healthy between my occasional trims (around every three to four months).

Despite having long and thick hair, I am able to get two or three uses from these conditioning packs. This one made my hair like silk after rinsing it out. It says on the package to leave on for 10 minutes, but I got distracted and left it on for 30 minutes before rinsing.

I really like the Argan Oil line, I just finished up the Argan Oil Shampoo on the weekend, and the matching conditioner has about one more use left in it, so they will be in my January empties post.

Hask Deep Conditioning Packs

I would definitely purchase this Deep Conditioning pack again. I still have to test and review the Charcoal and Citrus Oil Purifying Deep Conditioner pack before I decide which one is my fave of the bunch.

Have you tried this one? Do you have a favourite deep conditioner?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Hask Keratin Protein Smoothing Deep Conditioner Review

Hello, hello!

Today I have a little review of the Keratin Protein Smoothing Deep Conditioner pack from Hask. Here’s what it says on the website:

HASK Keratin Protein Smoothing Deep Conditioner is an ultra restorative, moisturizing hair conditioner that leaves all hair types smooth, shiny and frizz free. This special ingredient blend repairs damage, reduces breakage and helps reduce static and drying time. Perfect for over processed and color treated hair. Treat your hair with this nourishing conditioner, formulated to bring life back into your luscious looking locks!

My hair is fairly long, past my shoulders (about bra strap length), thick, wavy and prone to dryness in the winter months. And I dye my hair. Despite this, my hair is actually pretty healthy because I rarely heat style, and I try to deep condition my hair about every two weeks.

Hask Keratin Protein Deep Conditioner

I like that the Hask Keratin Protein deep conditioner comes in a large enough foil package that I can get several uses from. I had originally thought that I would get one use from the pack because of my thick hair.

In the instructions it says to leave on for 10 minutes, but I’d forgotten to keep an eye on the clock and left it on for 20 minutes. My hair was so soft and smooth afterwards, and because of that, it was easier to manage, and less out of control! I might have to purchase the 6 oz tube of this one.

I still have two other Hask Deep Conditioning packs to test out before deciding which one to purchase the larger size of – the Argan Oil Repairing Deep Conditioner, and the Charcoal with Citrus Oil Purifying Deep Conditioner.

Have you tried this one? What is your fave deep conditioning treatment / hair mask? Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Hask Argan Oil Reparing Shampoo & Conditioner

Hello, hello!

I decided to switch up my shampoo and conditioner and wanted to try a new to me brand – Hask Beauty – because not only does their product lines look interesting and free from sulfates, parabens, phthalates, gluten, drying alcohol and artificial colors, they are a cruelty free brand! From their FAQ:

HASK, do you test on animals? We definitely DO NOT test on animals! That’s terrible… I’m hurt that you even think we do – and my puppy Harley is offended too! We make sure our suppliers and vendors supply safety and regulatory information on our ingredients so we don’t run into any issues. We love our furry friends and would never do anything to harm them! (P.S. We’re glad you’re concerned about this too)

Hask Argan Oil Reparing Shampoo & Conditioner

I decided to try the Argan Oil Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner because my hair is a little dry these days (I need to book a hair appointment ASAP to get a trim). I’ll start by giving a little information on both the shampoo and conditioner before moving onto my experience.

Here’s what is says about the Argan Oil Repairing Shampoo:

Frizzed hair got you frazzled? Damaged hair got you down? Revive and restore the look of your hair with HASK Argan Oil from Morocco Repairing Shampoo. Infused with moisturizing argan oil, this shampoo penetrates the hair shaft, gently cleansing while it repairs damage and breakage, leaving even the most rebellious hair frizz-free, silky-soft and super glossy. It’s no wonder they call argan oil the “miracle oil”! Ideal for dry, damaged or color-treated hair, this shampoo’s lively scent will also refresh and uplift your senses.

And here’s what it says about the Argan Oil Repairing Conditioner:

Infused with moisturizing argan oil, this conditioner penetrates the hair shaft, gently softening and detangling while protecting against damage and breakage, leaving even the most rebellious hair frizz-free, silky-soft and super glossy.

My experience:

My hair is long, super thick, wavy, colour-treated and prone to frizz – in other words, it is a bit of a beast. My ends are a little dry right now because I need to get a trim, but it is perfect testing conditions for a repairing shampoo and conditioner combo.

The shampoo lathers really well which is a rare thing in sulfate free shampoos. It leaves my hair feeling clean and soft. The conditioner does a great job at detangling and moisturizing my hair. Both the shampoo and conditioner smell amazing – to me it smells like a  faintly spicy citrus blend. My hair is softer and easier to manage even with the humid weather. All in all, I really like this one. I think I’m going to buy the Deep Conditioning Treatment to try out.
