Empties January 2020

Hello, hello!

Today I have my monthly empties. I didn’t finish up as much as I’d hoped, and am SO CLOSE to finishing a couple of moisturizers. But progress is progress when it comes to finishing up things from my stash! I’m on a low buy, so if I say I’ll purchase / re-purchase it means that I would do so eventually. My goal is to only buy necessities.

Skincare Empties:

Empties January 2020 - Skincare

The Ordinary Mandelic Acid 10% + HA, and Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3% – I have at least two more acid type peels to use up, and at least three serums to use up, and so many on my wishlist, that it is doubtful that I will repurchase in the near future. Reviews are here and here.

Derma E Radiance Toner (Glycolic Acid & Rooibos) – I liked this toner (Petit Vour subscription sample). I have other toners to use up, but I really liked this one as it felt gentle. Review is here.

Lavido Aromatic Body Lotion (Mandarin, Orange & Bergamot) – Another Petit Vour sample. I mainly used this as a hand cream, it worked great! I have other body lotions in my stash to use up. Review is here.

Kalos After Hours Soothing Night Cream – A Petit Vour sample. I’m sad that this is empty, it is such an amazing and gentle night cream, especially great for dry and sensitive skin. This one is on my wishlist, as I have a few more moisturizers and creams to use up. Review is here.

Kariderm Moisturizing Protective Cream – This was a PR sample. Another amazing face cream, great for dry and sensitive skin. Lightweight in texture but really hydrating. I would purchase this if I didn’t have a few more to finish up! Review is here.

Makeup Empties:

Empties Jan 2020 2

Catrice Rock Couture Extreme Volume Mascara (Waterproof) – I liked this mascara, but I didn’t love it because it didn’t give me enough volume so I won’t repurchase this one. Review is here.

Maison Jacynthe Fluide de Teint Fluid Foundation – PR Sample. This was in my stash way too long for a liquid product (2.5 years!), so it had to go. I currently have a few foundations in my stash and a list of more that I want to try, so no purchase right now. Review is here.

Hey Honey Trick and Treat Concealer – I think this was an Ipsy Glam Bag sample. A fantastic concealer, I finished it up by mainly using it for toning down the redness in my cheeks on minimal makeup (no foundation) days. I have other concealers to use up currently. Review is here.

Not pictured: Nyx #NOFILTER Finishing Powder – I finally finished this powder! And I cannot find it – I think that the packaging might have gone out in last week’s recycling. I really liked this finishing powder, but I have others in my stash to use up, and a list of powders that I’d like to try. Review is here.

Did you finish up much this month?

Best of 2017 – Makeup

Hello, hello!

Today I’m sharing my top makeup picks for 2017. These are all new to me products that I’ve tested out during the year, and do not include any old favourites. These products are the most used, and most loved additions to my makeup collection in 2017.

Best of 2017 Makeup

Masion Jacynthe Fluide de Teint / Fluid Foundation (PR Sample) – This is the perfect foundation for this time of year when my skin needs extra moisture as this is a hydrating and dewy finish foundation. I’ve been adding in a little of one of my paler foundations to get a perfect shade match for my winter pale skin. Reviewed here.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation – This is a great all year round foundation as it contains some SPF, and is lightweight, with what I would call a semi-matte finish (not a super flat matte). I have this in two shades (1.2P and 1.1N). I’d like to try the 1.1P next. Lately I’ve been mixing the two together to make the perfect shade for me! Reviewed here and here.

Milani The Multitasker Face Powder – I use this powder to set my Maison Jacynthe Fluid Foundation, to make the finish is little less dewy, and to cut down on shine on my nose for other foundations. Reviewed here.

Maison Jacynthe Illuminateur / Illuminator  (PR Sample) – I have this in the shade Sparkling Sun, a pale gold toned highlighter. It is great for adding a subtle glow to the skin. Out of all the highlighters that I own, I seem to use this one the most. Reviewed here.

Hey Honey Active Propolis Cream Concealer – This concealer works so well for the under eye area as it hydrates and conceals. Reviewed here.

Best of 2017 Makeup

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipsticks in Pepper, Rhubarb, and Verbena – I’ve been wearing these lipsticks ALL THE TIME since purchasing my first one in the spring. The best lipstick formula I’ve ever tried. Reviewed here, here and here.

Sothys Paris Velvet Effect Lipstick in Rose le Pic (PR Sample) – This lipstick formula comes close to the perfection of the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick. It is a very wearable rose shade that I’ve been wearing a lot. Reviewed here.

Essence Cosmetics The False Lashes Mascara – This is the best non-waterproof mascara I’ve ever tried. My eyes water easily, so most non-waterproof mascaras are a no-go for me. This one has everything I look for in a mascara – deep, dark, ultra black, volumizing, lengthening, AND hold a curl without flaking or running / smearing. I need to pick up a new tube asap! Reviewed here.

What were your most favourite products for 2017?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Disclosure: All PR Samples identified, the rest have been purchased by me. My opinion is my own.

Hey Honey Active Propolis Cream Concealer Review

Hello, hello!

I received the Hey Honey Active Propolis Cream Concealer in my October GlamBag and I’ve been wear testing it for several days and feel ready to review it. This is the second product from Hey Honey that I’ve gotten from Ipsy. [info in italics is taken from the Hey Honey website]

WHAT IS IT:
An active cream concealer that minimizes the appearance of dark circles and other discolorations around the eye area.

WHY USE IT:
This highly pigmented cream treatment concealer combines a special blend of amino acid Proline and Vitamin E to provide an anti-wrinkle effect for a smoother appearance. Emollient oils support the lipid layer of the skin, minimizing visibility of fine lines.

WHO IS IT FOR:
Normal to Dry Skin Types

HOW TO USE:
Gently squeeze cream from the tube onto a clean fingertip. Apply a small quantity to the under-eye area. A second layer may be applied, until perfect coverage is achieved. Can be used alone, under or on top of foundation.
I always use an undereye concealer, even on days that I’m not wearing foundation – my usual one is the Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector (review is here). So how does the Hey Honey one compare?
As you can see in the swatches below – the Hey Honey concealer is peachy toned, whereas the Becca concealer is more pink toned. Both blend well with my skin tone.
HeyHoney4
I was surprised by how moisturizing this concealer is. A little goes a LOOOOOONG way, the first time I tested it out, I had enough concealer for days, haha! It works well to conceal dark circles and brighten the under eye. I haven’t had any issues with creasing either. All in all, I think that this is a great under eye concealer!
It seems to only be available in one shade – natural tone.  I’m doubtful that it would work for darker skintones, but maybe I’m wrong. I’d like to see it swatched on several different skintones to know for sure.
Have you tried this concealer?

Hey Honey Bésame Mucho Lip Balm Review

Hello, hello!

I am so swamped with work, sorry I did not post yesterday! This week is super mega busy!

Ok, on the review! As you all know, I’m a lip balm addict so when the Hey Honey Bésame Mucho Shea Butter and Propolis Lip Balm arrived in a recent Ipsy Glam Bag, I was happy to try it out as I’d managed to finish up a few lip balms from my stash recently.

Hey Honey Besame Mucho

Here’s what it says on the Hey Honey website:

WHAT IS IT:

A creamy, concentrated shea butter and Propolis lip balm.

Hey Honey Besame Mucho

WHY USE IT:
Designed to care for and protect dry, chapped lips with nourishing emollients such as Shea Butter, squalane, and triglycerides. Absorbs well, leaving the lips feeling soft and hydrated. The antibacterial and antiseptic properties of the Propolis extract helps to keep your lips clean and hydrated to promote smoother texture.

This is a cruelty free and paraben free brand – yay!

Hey Honey Besame Mucho

I really like this lip balm. It is super smooth and fairly fast absorbing and not at all waxy or sticky. I tend to use this one in the daytime, and my Bite Beauty Lip Mask at bed time.

All in all, a great lip balm. Have you tried this lip balm, or anything else from Hey Honey?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Ipsy Glam Bag April 2017 Unboxing and First Impressions

Hello, hello!

This was supposed to go up yesterday, oops! Oh well, better late than never.

This month’s theme is “side show” – hence this month’s bag is a ticket to the “side show”. It’s a cute bag this month, and I’m fairly happy with everything that I received. (Descriptions in italics taken from the Ipsy website)

Onto the contents! First up is the Soothing Aloe Gel from Hanalei (a cruelty free brand):

  • Have you ever used aloe beyond sunburn season? We hadn’t either. But now we can’t live without it.

  • It’s cooling, refreshing, smoothing, and it feels ahhhh-mayyyy-zing.

  • Aloe is naturally regenerative, so it will help balance out any redness or uneven skin tone.

  • The gel texture also makes a killer makeup primer.

Ipsy Glam Bag April 2017

I’m kind of happy to get this one, it is always good to have some aloe gel on hand in the summer time in case of sunburn – even though I am pretty good at always wearing SPF and taking a travel sized one with me to top up. I’ll be saving this one for the summer months.

Next is a Highlighting Powder from Mica Beauty in shade #3 (cruelty free):

  • Get all candlelit and dreamy in seconds. Just sweep across your face and chest with a big fluffy brush.
  • Sure, it’s makeup, but it’s also packed with antioxidants to protect and nourish your complexion (almost like skincare).
  • You can use it as an eyeshadow, too. Just apply with a damp brush for added intensity.
  • Skin kinda sensitive? Prefer chemical-free makeup? This highlighter is for you! Only pure mica and minerals are used in this all-natural powder.

I didn’t have a gold toned highlighter in my collection, so I’m pretty happy about this one – plus it will make a great eye shadow!

Ipsy Glam Bag April 2017

Next is a lip balm – Bésame Mucho from Hey Honey (cruelty free):

  • When a product name translates to “kiss me a lot,” you know it’s going to work wonders for your lips.

  • Heard of propolis? We hadn’t either. It’s an extract from beehives that both hydrates and is antibacterial. This balm has loads of it, plus shea butter.

  • Lips feeling parched? Slather on a super thick coat to turn this into an overnight lip mask.

Ipsy Glam Bag April 2017

You all know that I’m a lip balm addict, so I’ll make use of this one as soon as I finish up one of the ones currently in use!

Next is the Luxie Dreamcatcher Precision Foundation Brush #660 (cruelty free):

  • We wish we were as good at multitasking as this genius brush! You can use it for all your liquid, cream, or powder foundations, concealers, highlighters AND bronzers. NBD.

  • Earn brush bragging rights. The pretty periwinkle handle looks amazing in your kit, but even better on your vanity.

  • Pssst! We think we know why it’s called “dreamcatcher.” (It’s because it makes all our makeup application dreams come true!)

  • Have a brush with kindness! This fluffy beauty is 100% vegan and cruelty-free.
