Best 17 of 2017 – Skin and Hair Care

Hello, hello!

Today I am sharing my picks for the best of 2017 in Skincare, Bath / Body and Hair Care – in some categories I picked more than one product.

Skincare:

Best of Skin1

Best Cleansers of 2017 – Farmacy Beauty Green Clean Balm and Juice Beauty Brightening Gel Cleanser. Both have become my favourite cleansers that I tried this past year! Reviewed here and here.

Best Serums of 2017 – The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2% and Buffet. I’ve gone through two of each of these and they work really well for my sensitive skin. Reviewed here and here.

Best Eye Cream / Serum of 2017 – The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG. This is the the only caffeine based eye serum that I’ve tried that doesn’t irritate my eyes. It works well for calming undereye puffiness. Review is here.

Best Toner of 2017 – The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution. Admittedly, I’ve not tried a lot of toners this year, but this one works well for my skin. I only use it a few times a week and not daily. Review is here.

Best Facial Oil of 2017 – Poetic Blend Ghost Oil. This came in a Petit Vour box, and I absolutely love it, especially now that we are in the midst of cold winter weather. Review is here.

Best in Bath and Body 2017

Best of 2017

Best in Body Care 2017 – Neal’s Yard Remedies Bee Lovely All Over Balm (PR Sample) and Satya Organic Eczema Relief. Both are amazing. Reviews are here and here.

Best in Lip Care 2017 – Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask and Joik Gloss and Care Lip Oil. I’m a lip balm addict and these two are the best! Review are here and here.

Best in Bath 2017 – Wildcraft Buff Scrub and Joik Luxurious Rose Bathmilk. This is the nicest body scrub, and it smells amazing. It says that it can be used on the face, but my facial skin is far too sensitive. I’m sad that I’ve used up the last of my Joik Rose Bathmilk – it was so lovely and the scent was glorious. Reviews here and here.

Best Hand Cream 2017 – Natura Siberica Saaremaa Mositurizing Hand Cream. I was gifted this while in Estonia, and it is such an amazing hand cream. I use it daily in the colder weather. Review is here.

Best in Hair Care 2017

Best of 2017

Best Hair Accessory 2017 – GummiBand Hair Cords (PR Sample). I’ve been using these daily since getting them. I have one on my wrist as I’m typing, haha! Review is here.

Best Hair Product 2017 – Briogeo Curl Charisma. Helps tame my unruly wavy hair and make it look good without being crunchy or heavy. Review is here.

Best Dry Shampoo 2017 –  Hask Chia Seed Volumizing Dry Shampoo. This was diffiuclt to choose between this one and my usual one from Co-Lab. I like that it doesn’t make my hair feel gross, or add a white cast and adds a nice amount of volume. Review is here.

Next week I’ll have by Top 17 of 2017 in makeup!

Faves for Fall 2017

Hello, hello!

Today I’d like to share some of my current favourites for the fall season. Since I’ve already shared my lipstick picks last week, I won’t be including any in today’s faves post.

Faves Fall 2017

Let’s take a closer look – skin / body care:

Faves Fall 2017

As I’ve said before I am a lip balm addict and the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask is a must have for year round use, but especially during the colder months! I use this every night before going to bed. The original review is here. (Cruelty free)

The Neal’s Yard Remedies Bee Lovely All Over Balm* is a new favourite. It just smells so amazing! I tend to use this wherever my body needs the most hydration. This will be well used as the weather gets increasingly colder. The review is here. (PR sample, cruelty free)

The Natura Siberica Saaremaa Moisturizing Hand Cream was given to me from A’s family when we were visiting Estonia in August. As you can see, it is already well used. I’m hoping that it lasts throughout the winter because it is not greasy, super moisturizing and mildly scented. The review is here. (Cruelty free)

Makeup:

Faves Fall 2017

Can you believe that I have not one, but two non-waterproof mascaras in my faves? This has never happened before! Both the Volume Stylist 18H and The False Lashes Mascaras from Essence are able to withstand my watering eyes without running or smudging. And they give my lashes volume and can hold a curl in my long, stick-straight lashes! Reviews are here and here. (Cruelty free)

The Hey Honey Active Propolis Cream Concealer was a surprise for me. It came in my last Ipsy GlamBag. When I first swatched it on my arm, I figured that I would hate it. It works well to conceal dark circles and hydrate the under eye without creasing on me! I’ve been using this interchangeably with my usual Becca Brightening Under Eye Corrector. And I have just recently tried the two together with good results so far! Review is here. (Cruelty free)

Other:

Fall Faves 2017 4

These earrings are a replacement for a similar, well loved, pair that I’d recently lost. I had worn the original pair almost daily for several years (8 to 10 years) and was heartbroken at their loss. I found these silver wire earrings from Splurge on etsy, and I could not be happier. I love their simplicity. I also love that they were hand crafted in Canada!

What are your favourites for fall? (Or spring if you are on the other side of the world)

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!

Neal's Yard Remedies Bee Lovely

This balm smells amazing due to the orange essential oil and it applies like a dream, and melts into the skin. It is soothing and super gentle on my  sensitive skin, and really does help soften and hydrate dry skin patches. This is going to be a staple for the upcoming colder months, for sure!

Neal’s Yard Remedies Frankincense Intense Lifting Serum Review

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review of a new Frankincense Intense Lifting Serum from Neal’s Yard Remedies, launching in May 2017. This is my first time trying anything from the brand, so I really did not know what to expect!

First of all, I want to show you the packaging –

The packaging is super luxe, I especially love the gold embossed logo on the navy ground.

Neal's Yard Remedies

I love that the serum comes in a cobalt glass dropper bottle, again with the gold stamped logo.

Here’s what it says about this serum (info in italics taken from the Neal’s Yard Remedies website):

NEW Frankincense Intense Lift Serum is our breakthrough mindful beauty solution harnessing the ancient power of frankincense and over 15 years of Neal’s Yard Remedies research into its amazing properties. Sustainably harvested frankincense, clinically proven to promote a feeling of wellbeing, is combined with our targeted lifting technology to help you age well and stress less. Plumping hyaluronic acid helps to smooth deep lines while the lifting technology of micro-algae, ribose and linseed oil helps to redefine your facial contours.* 83% agree their skin looks visibly lifted* 85% agree the aroma helps them feel less stressed* 83% agree their deep lines and wrinkles appear reduced, skin looks plumped*

This pale lemon yellow serum smells glorious, and roughly two drops are all you need to cover your entire face. It absorbs quickly into the skin. I’ve been using this serum twice a day for two and a half weeks now and my skin has never looked better! I can’t wait to see the results of longer term usage!

The Frankincense Intense Lifting Serum is probably the most luxurious product that I’ve ever put on my face! It is pricy though, at $149 CAD for 30 ml / 1.01 oz, but because you only need to use such a small amount each time, I can see the bottle lasting a long time.

Here’s the full ingredient list:

Aqua/Water/Eau, Glycerin, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil*, Acacia Senegal Gum, Polyglyceryl-3 Rice Branate, Tapioca Starch*, Adansonia Digitata Seed Oil*, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil*, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil*, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil*, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Hydrolyzed Rhizobian Gum, Levulinic Acid, Ribose, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Levulinate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder*, Sodium Gluconate, Boswellia Sacra Resin Oil, Boswellia Sacra Gum Extract, Boswellia Sacra Resin Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Citric Acid, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Sodium Anisate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Potassium Sorbate, Tocopherol, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Peel Oil*, Sea Water Extract, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Peel Oil*, Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Extract, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Commiphora Confusa Resin Oil*, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Flower Oil*, Commiphora Myrrha Oil, Cylindrotheca Fusiformis Extract, Microcitrus Australasica Fruit Extract, Boswellia Neglecta Resin Oil*, Glyceryl Caprylate, p-Anisic Acid, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5, Dextran, Caprooyl Tetrapeptide-3, Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide-2, Limonene, Linalool, Farnesol, Geraniol. *Organically produced ingredients. Natural constituent of essential oils listed. Made with 71% organic ingredients.
