Project Focus 10 – The Final Chapter

Hello, hello!

As you know, my fellow collaborators got through the 10 weeks of the Project Focus 10 Challenge. Today I’m just closing the loop and adding some final thoughts.

PF10 The Final Chapter

First of all, I want to thank my fellow collaborators (Ingrid from Curly Spring Blossom, Stashy from Stash Matters, and Joy from Styled with Joy) for keeping the challenge going for all ten weeks. And I especially want to thank Ingrid for being the brain that came up with this collab, and for asking me to participate! ❤

All in all, out of the 10 products, I was able to finish four and trash two.

I think that I will do this again in a few months, because after doing this, and swatching the single shadows in my collection, I’ve realized that I have a lot of makeup that gets neglected.

Summary of the 10 Products (and links in case you missed it):

Hard Candy Primer – reviewed week 1, trashed, will never use again after my bad reaction!

Wayne Goss Brush 01 – reviewed week 2, still in love with this brush, I swear it gets softer each week!

Living Proof Prime Style Extender – reviewed week 3, and finished by week 6! I didn’t notice that it made much of a difference for my hair, so I probably won’t get it again.

Essence Lash Mania Mascara (Waterproof) – reviewed week 4, trashed as it made my lashes droop horribly.

Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream – reviewed week 5, and finished at the end of March! My cuticles need this stuff, so I have to replace it asap!

Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer –  reviewed week 6, I didn’t use this as much as I had hoped, as I’m still a wee bit too pale right now, but I do plan on wearing it in the summer.

Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Shampoo – Reviewed week 7, finished! I will probably buy this again at some point, but I have some other shampoos to use up first.

Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Conditioner – Reviewed week 8, finished! I will probably buy this again at some point, but I have some other conditioners to use up first.

Georgie Beauty False Lashes No. 2 L’Avant Gardiste and Black Lash Adhesive – reviewed week 9, they are so pretty, I need to master the art of applying false lashes!

Urban Decay Naked3 Palette – reviewed week 10, I managed to use this a minimum of twice a week, sometimes more. I’ve actually continued to use it at least once or twice a week since.

Would you do a similar type project pan?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

March 2016 Empties

March Empties

Hello, hello! I cannot believe that it April already!

I managed to finish up a few things in my stash this month.

Haircare:

March Empties - Haircare

I’ve reviewed the Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Long & Strong Shampoo and Conditioner as a part of my Project Focus 10 Collab (reviews are here and here). I will probably buy these again once I use up whatever other shampoos and conditioners that I have in my stash. Or I might try one of the other shampoo / conditioner combos in their range. I really want to try their Beach Babe Soft Waves spray, and their Clean Freak Dry Shampoo.

I haven’t actually reviewed the COLAB dry shampoo in Rio (tropical scent) yet. But it works well with my crazy wavy hair when I want to go an extra day without washing it. It leaves my hair feeling fresh, and adds volume. It says on the package that the scent is papaya and pineapple but I only smell the pineapple, thank goodness as I really dislike the scent of papaya.  I’ve already purchased a replacement in same scent.

Skincare & Makeup:

March Empties - Skincare & Makeup

I finished up quite a few makeup and skincare products this month, most of which I have reviewed on the blog previously.

The two lipsticks, aren’t technically empties, but they are getting pitched as both of them have dried out and the scent is starting to go off (both are more than a year old). Despite that, I did love both the Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Violet Volt, and the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Wonderchilde. I’ve swatched them both previously, you can see them here. I haven’t replaced either of them as of yet, because my list of lipsticks that I want to try is suuuuuuper long.

I’m sad that I’ve used up the Andalou Naturals Pumpkin Honey Glycolic Mask. I loved this and used it at least once a week from the time that I purchased it. The original review is here. I haven’t replaced it yet, but probably will after I knock a few other masks off of my wish list.

The OZ Naturals Retinol Serum. This took me ages to finish because I had started to use the Super Youth Retinol Moisturizer and didn’t want to overdo it on the retinol use. I haven’t replaced this yet as I still have about half a tube left of the moisturizer to use up.

Sample pack of Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment. This came with my bottle of EradiKate. This exfoliator really is intense for sensitive skin. It was just on the edge of me wondering if it was a healthy tingling sensation, or it my face was going to melt and burn. But as soon as I washed it off, my skin was fine, so I guess that it was an intense tingle. This stuff looks really gross (it is dark green) but my skin looked amazing after using it. It is pricey though, so I’m not sure that I will buy the full size unless I’m planning on a splurge.

The Naruko Rose & Botanic HA Aqua Cubic Complex EX serum worked so well for my sensitive combination dry skin. I’m really sad that this one is empty. I loved the way that it worked in conjunction with the Night Gelly. My skin is just so hydrated, smooth and rosy when I use them. The original review is here.

Trial size of Paula’s Choice Moisture Renewal Oil Booster. This stuff is amazing when you need a boost of hydration. You can use it directly on the skin like a serum, mix it with your moisturizer, or even mix it with your foundation. This stuff was great during the cold winter months when my skin gets particularly dry and sensitive. I haven’t replaced it yet, but most likely will in the fall. The original review is here.

Another one from the Project Focus 10 Collab is the Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream. I used this religiously for 10 weeks, and it made a huge difference! The original review is here. I will likely replace this, or will try the similar product from Lush.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Disclosure: Please see original reviews for disclosure of each product. Most of these products were purchased with my own money.

Project Focus 10 – Week 10 Review & Update

Project Focus 10 Collab - Urban Decay Naked 3

Hello, hello!

Week 10? I cannot believe that it has been 10 weeks already!

Project Focus 10 Collab - Urban Decay Naked 3Today I’m reviewing the final product in the Project Focus 10 Collab with my lovely fellow bloggers: Ingrid from Curly Spring Blossom, Stashy from Stash Matters, and Joy from Styled with Joy.

So what is Project Focus 10?

10 different products that have been forgotten or neglected, or that we just want to use up, that have not been reviewed on our blogs before (but are still on the market). Over the course of 10 weeks  we will make an effort to try to use them, and review one of the products weekly (every Monday), and update on our progress on each of the 10 products over the 10 week period.

Urban Decay Naked 3

I’m reviewing the Naked 3 palette from Urban Decay. As you probably know, I have a LOT of single shadows, and only a few palettes, so this was a good excuse to give this neglected palette some love.

Here’s what it says on the website:

Experiment with 12 NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN (and insanely beautiful) rose-hued neutrals—from pale, shimmery pink to deep black matte with rosy red micro-glitter. It’s finally here: the long-awaited follow-up Naked and Naked2 (two of the industry’s all-time bestselling palettes)! And this time around, we’re giving you a dozen NEW ways to get Naked. (Yes, we loaded this palette with 12 NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN shades.)

Choose from every finish imaginable: ultra-smooth mattes, gorgeous pearls and glimmering metallics. From the palest, shimmery pink to deep, warm black, these neutrals will make you want to get Naked all over again. Every shade features our Pigment Infusion System™, the proprietary blend of ingredients that gives each shade its velvety texture, rich color, serious staying power and blendability.

Urban Decay Naked 3

My experience:

This is a gorgeous palette with both shimmer and matte shades. The more glittery shades (dust, buzz and trick) are prone to fallout, but using primer helps reduce fallout. The other shades are easier to work with and have great blendability. My favourites are shade, limit, nooner, liar, factory, mugshot, darkside and blackheart. This is a perfect palette for year round use and it is great for a wide range of looks from subtle to dramatic. The brush is better than a lot of ones that come with palettes, but I do prefer to use my other brushes (especially my Wayne Goss ones).

Project Focus 10 Collab – Week 9 Review & Update

Hello, hello!

Project Focus 10 Collab

Can you believe that it is week 9 already for the Project Focus 10 Collab with my lovely fellow bloggers: Ingrid from Curly Spring Blossom, Stashy from Stash Matters, and Joy from Styled with Joy.

What is Project Focus 10?

10 different products that have been forgotten or neglected, or that we just want to use up, that have not been reviewed on our blogs before (but are still on the market). Over the course of 10 weeks  we will make an effort to try to use them, and review one of the products weekly (every Monday), and update on our progress on each of the 10 products over the 10 week period.

This week I’m reviewing the Georgie Beauty False Lashes Style No. 2 L’Avant Gardiste.

Georgie Beauty False Lashes No. 2

Here’s what it says on the website:

Fullness plus Flare.

Our best-selling style easily goes from day to night. It’s fuller on the ends creating a subtle yet seductive cat-eyed shape.

The Georgie faux lash collection features classic styles to wear from morning latte to midnight soirée. Georgie lashes are handmade, weightlessly voluminous, easy to apply, and can be worn multiple times.

As well, I’m reviewing the Georgie Black Faux Lash Adhesive.

Here’s what it says about the lash glue:

  • The first adhesive that is dermatologist tested, PETA and vegan certified

  • Does not contain formaldehyde or phthalates

My experience: I have very minimal experience with false lashes. I think I’ve attempted applying them maybe two or three times EVER. But it is something that I would love to be able to learn to do well. I purchased these lashes almost a year ago from the Kind Beauty Collective, and have been looking at them longingly ever since. I have always put off using them, because honestly, I am a little intimidated by my lack of skills at applying false lashes.

Georgie Beauty Faux lashes No. 2

These lashes are so beautiful and lush. And the glue did not irritate my super sensitive eyes. But, I must tell you that I really am HORRIBLE at applying false lashes. I even tried again this morning in the hopes of getting them applied well enough to try to take a photo. The product is amazing, but I need loads more practise. I’m going to buy some cheapo lashes to practise with before trying these again, because they are too gorgeous to go to waste. I plan on mastering false lash application this year!

Georgie Beauty Faux lashes No. 2

This morning I dropped one of the lashes while trying to apply them, and it took me more than FIVE MINUTES to find it because I was wearing all black and it was stuck to my sleeve. The struggle is real. Hahaha!

Project Focus 10 Collab – Week 8 Review & Update

Not Your Mother's Way to Grow Long & Strong Shampoo and Conditioner

Hello, hello!

Can you believe that it is week 8 of the Project Focus 10 Collab with my lovely fellow bloggers: Ingrid from Curly Spring Blossom, Stashy from Stash Matters, and Joy from Styled with Joy.

This week I’m reviewing the Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Long and Strong Conditioner.  Here’s what the website says:

Remember the princess in the tower with the long, golden locks? Well, now you can let down your own hair because of Way to Grow. Made with essential vitamins, herbs and and bioactive extracts, this salon formula will strengthen, moisturize and give your hair a silky texture by the time prince charming comes for you!

My experience: I finished using up both the shampoo and conditioner this week!

On the conditioner bottle it says: “Intense Moisturizing for All Hair Types

My hair is in pretty good condition considering that I haven’t had a trim since December, but the ends are starting to get a little dry. I wouldn’t say that the conditioner provides my hair with “intense moisturizing” as I’ve had to use a hair treatment mask to give my ends some super conditioning occasionally. I tend to use a heavier conditioner about once every two weeks or so, more often if my hair seems a little dry. But for a daily, or every other day, type conditioning, it is fine. It is probably more intensely moisturizing if you have finer hair.

Would I buy it again? I’ll give it another try in the summer time and see how it performs on my hair in humid weather.

Update on the remaining nine products:

Project Focus 10 Collab

Makeup:

Hard Candy Primer – reviewed week 1, will never use again after my bad reaction.

Urban Decay Naked 3 palette – used 1x, used the matte shades this week.

Essence Lash Mania Mascara (Waterproof) – did not use, reviewed week 4

Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer – did not use this week, reviewed week 6.

Focus10 Makke-up2

Makeup Tools:

Georgie Beauty False Lashes and Adhesive – I had intended to try out my false lashes on the weekend, but my right eye is really irritated / scratchy feeling so I didn’t want to risk making it worse. I haven’t tried any new eye products, so I know that it isn’t allergy / sensitivity related. Maybe a minor scratch from dust – it was really windy and dusty on Friday and my eye started bothering me on Friday night / Saturday morning. Hopefully it will feel better soon. I didn’t wear any eye products yesterday and I won’t again today just in case.

Wayne Goss Brush 01 – reviewed week 2, used daily, LOVE IT!

Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Shampoo – used 1x, FINISHED! Reviewed week 7!

Living Proof Prime Style Extender – reviewed week three, finished in week 6!

Project Focus 10 Collab – Week 7 Review and Update

Not Your Mother's Way to Grow Long & Strong Shampoo and Conditioner

Hello, hello!

I’m back with the seventh installment of my Project Focus 10 Collab with my lovely fellow bloggers: Ingrid from Curly Spring Blossom, Stashy from Stash Matters, and Joy from Styled with Joy.

Today I’m reviewing the Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Long & Strong Shampoo.

Not Your Mother's Way to Grow Long & Strong Shampoo and Conditioner

Here’s what it says on the website:

Remember the princess in the tower with the long, golden locks? Well, now you can let down your own hair because of Way to Grow. Made with essential vitamins, herbs and and bioactive extracts, this salon formula will have your hair stronger, healthier and in turn, longer by the time prince charming comes for you!

Not Your Mother's Way to Grow Long & Strong Shampoo and Conditioner

My experience: I started using the Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Long & Strong shampoo (and the matching conditioner which I’ll review next week) in late November / early December, but really only started using it regularly after Christmas.

On the package it states: “Longer hair, faster. Strengthens hair. Anti-Breakage formula

My hair is past my shoulders in length, with the longest layer nearly down to my bra strap. My hair is thick and it does grow fairly quickly, so I can’t really comment on longer hair, faster aspect. I haven’t had my hair trimmed since December, and other than my ends just starting to get a little dry, I have no split ends, and zero breakage. Normally my ends would be a lot drier after about three months without a trim. I like that I don’t have to wash my hair every day when I use this shampoo, and my hair still looks and feels clean on the second day. The scent is pleasant, just a clean scent, not super perfumed, thank goodness, because I really do not like overly scented hair products. I should be able to finish both this and the conditioner next week – I might have one use left, maybe two.

Update on the remaining nine products:

Project Focus 10 Collab

Makeup:

Hard Candy Primer – reviewed week 1, will never use again after my bad reaction.

Urban Decay Naked 3 palette – used 2x, mostly the darker end of the palette this week.

Essence Lash Mania Mascara (Waterproof) – did not use, reviewed week 4

Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer – used 1x, reviewed week 6.

Makeup Tools:

Georgie Beauty False Lashes and Adhesive – Once again I did not use my false lashes, but I did manage to do a patch test with the adhesive and I’m happy to say that there was no reaction, so I think that I will be able to safely use it and not have my eyes explode!

(I walked around for 24 hours with this on my arm to test for sensitivity / allergic reaction)

Wayne Goss Brush 01 – reviewed week 2, used daily, LOVE IT!

Haircare and Bodycare:

Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Conditioner – used 2x, nearly empty!

Project Focus 10 Collab – Week 6 Review & Update

Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer in Park Ave Princess

Hello, hello! Can you believe that it is already been SIX weeks since starting Project Focus 10?

Project Focus 10 is a Collab that I am doing with three lovely fellow bloggers: Ingrid from Curly Spring Blossom, Stashy from Stash Matters, and Joy from Styled with Joy. Here’s the lowdown on PF10:

10 different products that have been forgotten or neglected, or that we just want to use up, that have not been reviewed on our blogs before (but are still on the market). Over the course of 10 weeks  we will make an effort to try to use them, and review one of the products weekly (every Monday), and update on our progress on each of the 10 products over the 10 week period.

Today I’m reviewing Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Bronzer in their iconic shade Park Avenue Princess. Here’s what it says on the Sephora website about this bronzer:

What it is:
An ultralight, mineral-based bronzing powder.

What it does:
Tarte Mineral Powder Bronzer is an oil-free bronzer that fuses earthly minerals with naturally-derived ingredients for a natural-looking finish. It contains Skinvigorating™ ingredients like vitamins A and E, which act as antioxidants to fight free radical damage, and it’s infused with mineral pigments that are known for their soothing and softening properties.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer in Park Ave Princess

My experience: This is the first and only bronzer that I’ve ever owned as most of them are too dark for my skintone (for reference, I use Nars Sheer Glow in Mont Blanc).

Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer in Park Ave Princess

Because I’m quite pale in the winter time, I have to be careful in applying, otherwise it is too much (as you can see in the swatch on my arm, and my face is a lot paler than my arm). The colour is definitely buildable and long lasting on my skin. I think that it is a bit too warm for me this time of year, but I can see myself getting a lot of use out of it in the spring / summer.

Update on the remaining PF10 products:

Make-Up:

Focus10 Makke-up2

Hard Candy Primer – reviewed week 1, will never use again after my bad reaction.

Urban Decay Naked 3 palette – used 2x, loving the matte shades this week!

Essence Lash Mania Mascara (Waterproof) – did not use, reviewed week 4

Make-Up Tools:

Project Focus 10 Collab

Georgie Beauty False Lashes and Adhesive – Once again I did not use my false lashes, I need to do a patch test with the adhesive before trying them out. Maybe I’ll do that this afternoon.

Wayne Goss Brush 01 – reviewed week 2, used daily

Haircare and Bodycare:

Project Focus 10 Collab – Week 5 Update & Review

Hello, hello! Can you believe that it is week 5 already?

Project Focus 10 is a Collab that I am doing with three lovely fellow bloggers: Ingrid from Curly Spring Blossom, Stashy from Stash Matters, and Joy from Styled with Joy. Here’s the lowdown on PF10:

10 different products that have been forgotten or neglected, or that we just want to use up, that have not been reviewed on our blogs before (but are still on the market). Over the course of 10 weeks  we will make an effort to try to use them, and review one of the products weekly (every Monday), and update on our progress on each of the 10 products over the 10 week period.

Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream

Today I’m reviewing the Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream from Burt’s Bees. Here’s what it says on the Burt’s Bees website:

Give your needy nails a helping hand. Nourish and moisturise nails and cuticles with this intensive, natural treatment. A touch of lemon oil makes your nails smell incredibly clean, healthy and beautiful, naturally.

And here’s the ingredient list since it was nearly impossible to photograph it:

prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil, cera alba (beeswax, cire d’abeille), citrus medica limonum (lemon) peel oil, tocopheryl acetate, theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, euphorbia cerifera (candehlla) wax, beta-carotene, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, tocopherol, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, glycine soja (soybean) oil, canola oil (huile de colza), olus (vegetable oil, huile vegetale), limonene

My experience: I’ve been really good about using the Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream several times every day and I’ve made quite a dent in it as you can see from the photo with the black background (taken this morning). It is keeping my cuticles from drying out and getting raggy which they are prone to do in the dry and cold winter months. I love the lemony scent so much!

Update on the remaining products:

Project Focus 10 CollabMakeup:

Focus10 Makke-up2

Hard Candy Primer – reviewed week 1, will never use again after my bad reaction.

Urban Decay Naked 3 palette – used 1x, I only wore full makeup twice last week, and ended up using my new Zoeva Cocoa Blend palette one of the days.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer – used 1x, I’m quite pale this time of year, but when I’m sick, I’m ghostly, so this was a little too warm toned for me, even used sparingly.

Essence Lash Mania Mascara (Waterproof) – did not use, reviewed week 4

Makeup Tools:

Project Focus 10 Collab

Georgie Beauty False Lashes and Adhesive – did not use

Wayne Goss Brush 01 – reviewed week 2, used daily

Haircare and Bodycare:

Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Shampoo – used 1x, I accidentally used a different shampoo one morning

Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Conditioner – used 1x, I accidentally used a different conditioner one morning.

Living Proof Prime Style Extender – reviewed week three, used 2x, nearly finished the tube, maybe two or three uses left.

Overall: I think I made ok progress despite still being sick over the past week, and not really wearing much makeup unless I was leaving my house to camouflage the plague pallor.

Project Focus 10 Collab – Week 4 Review & Update

Hello, hello!

I’m back with week 4 of my Project Focus 10 Collab with Ingrid from Curly Sping Blossom, Stashy from Stash Matters, and Joy from Styled with Joy.

Today I’m reviewing the Lash Mania (Waterproof) Mascara from Essence Cosmetics.

Essence Lash Mania Waterproof

Here’s what it says on the European website, since it seems to have disappeared from the Canadian one:

lashes with star appeal! the innovative elastomer brush with a star-shaped arrangement of blades accurately grips your lashes to give them a push-up effect. the result: lashes with extreme volume and a dramatic false-lash look. secret tip: the LASH mania reloaded mascara offers perfect separation and can therefore also be used as a mascara topper. for all mascara maniacs.

Essence Lash Mania Waterproof

My experience: I have long stick straight lashes, so I always curl my lashes before applying mascara. At first my lashes look super long and have a nice curl, but I wouldn’t say that the mascara added any volume, or gave me a dramatic false lash look. Within an hour of applying, my lashes began to droop. This mascara does not hold a curl for me. I really wanted to like this mascara, since I LOVE their Get Big Lashes (Waterproof) Mascara. I’ve tried using it as a topper over GBL, but it just weighs my lashes down and causes them to droop.
