Cumulative Empties Aug to Dec 2020 – Skincare

Hello, hello! Welcome to / welcome back to A Brash Attitude! Happy New Year!

Today I have my cumulative empties from August until December – I’m not using up products as quickly as I used to, so haven’t been doing my monthly empties posts. Let’s take a look at all the skincare that I’ve finished up, and I’ll let you know if I plan to repurchase or not, and link to the original reviews.

Skincare:

Dermalogica Prisma Protect SPF 30 – I liked this travel sized sunscreen, it didn’t have a white cast on me and didn’t feel heavy or greasy. The full size is on the pricy side, so I would only re-purchase if on sale.

Moor Spa Cleansing Milk – This was from a PR package, and I really loved it. Creamy cleansers are so awesome for cold weather skincare. I would purchase this is I didn’t have so many cleansers to finish up.

Insensya Illuminate Serum – Another PR item. Quite possibly the best serum I’ve tried for all of 2020! At the top of my wishlist currently as I’ve a few serums to finish up.

Pacifica Coconut Water Micellar Cleansing Tonic – My skin hated this. I finished it up for cleaning up swatches as my face did not tolerate it.

5th Dimension Sub Rosa Serum – This was a nice oil-based serum. I have several oils and serums to use up, so no purchase for me at this time.

The Inkey List Bakuchiol and Polyglutamic Acid – The Bakuchiol was a good “starter” retinoid type serum cream, but I prefer something a little stronger. The Polyglutamic Acid made my skin feel nice and hydrated, but it smelled like paint (yuck). I don’t plan to repurchase, but have my eye on other products from the brand.

Cosmessential The Calm and B-Three Facial Serums – These were PR samples. Both were lovely – The Calm was great for when my skin was super sensitive, and B-Three was great for when my skin was “normal”. I have serums to use up, so no plans to purchase right now.

Goldfaden MD Vital Boost Moisturizer – I really liked this moisturizer, it was light yet hydrating and somewhat brightening. I have other moisturizers to finish up so no plan to purchase a full size.

Coming up later this week I have my Haircare, Bodycare and Makeup Finishes.

Pacifica Coconut Water Micellar Cleansing Tonic Review

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the Pacifica Coconut Water Micellar Cleansing Tonic from my March Petit Vour box. [info in italics taken from the Petit Vour website]

Pacifica Coconut Water Micellar Cleansing Tonic

We make it easy to be good with this simple step in cleansing that requires no water and no rinsing. Fortified coconut, calendula and grapefruit waters, this powerful tonic helps capture and lift away dirt, oil and impurities without harsh rubbing or over-drying. For all skin types

First off, this smells very strongly of coconut, which I have an aversion to. It smells like bad suntan lotion to me – but if you like coconut scented products, then you will probably like this.

I only used this micellar water once because it triggered a reaction! The one rare occasion that I didn’t do a skin patch test first – my skin felt like it was burning and turned red! I immediately ran to wash it off with my most gentle cream cleanser and then put on a soothing facial moisturizer and managed to calm my skin down within about an hour.

Pacifica Coconut Water Micellar Cleansing Tonic

I don’t see any obvious sensitivity triggers for my skin in the ingredient list so I’m assuming that it is something in the “parfum (natural)” blend in the ingredients that is not specified. I’m not willing to test this on my face again. I’ve had no problems with any of their skincare that I’ve tried before, so I was quite surprised!

Ingredients 100% Cruelty-Free and Vegan | aqua (purified), sorbitan oleate decylglucoside crosspolymer, decyl glucoside, glycerin, cocos nucifera (coconut) water, calendula officinalis (flower) extract, citrus grandis (grapefruit) fruit water, phenoxyethanol, ethylhexylglycerin, parfum (natural).

Have you tried this?

Pacifica Cherry Matte Mattifying Primer Review

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the Cherry Matte Mattifying Primer from Pacifica that came in my June Petit Vour box. [info in italics taken from the Petit Vour website]

Pacifica Cherry Matte Mattifying Primer

Don’t have a makeup meltdown. This lightweight mattifying primer is a support system for your skin, delivering a blurred focus finish with oil control benefits. So you can keep it together all day (or at least look like you are). For all skin types.

Pacifica Cherry Matte Mattifying Primer

This primer has a very mild cherry scent and absorbs into my skin quickly. I don’t wear full foundation in the summer time, but I found that it works well with concealer and powder. It also makes a nice base for my tinted sunscreen / BB Cream.

I was surprised that this mattifying primer didn’t make my skin feel dry, as most mattifying products tend to work like that on my normal to slightly dry skin. This would probably work really well for combination / oily skin.

Pacifica Cherry Matte Mattifying Primer

Ingredients 100% Cruelty-Free and Vegan | Aqua, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Sucrose Stearate, Isosorbide Dicaprylate, Glycerin, Bentonite, Niacinamide, Panthenol (Vitamin B), Sodium Hyaluronate, Isopropyl Palmitate, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary Leaf Extract, Xanthan Gum, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Barium Sulfate, Silica, Silica Silylate, Parfum (Natural), Sodium Gluconate, Sodium Benzoate, Prunus Serotina (Wild Cherry) Fruit Extract, Potassium Sorbate.

My June Petit Vour box finally arrived on Thursday (June 27th)! I often show my Petit Vour box on my InstaGram, but here on the blog you will get the unboxing AND first impressions. Full reviews to follow once I’ve had a chance to test things out. [all info in italics is taken from the Petit Vour website]

PetitVour June1

Petit Vour is a cruelty-free and vegan monthly subscription box with four (occasionally five) products. The subscription is $18 USD a month in the US, $23 USD for Canada, and $25 USD for the rest of the world. With the exchange rate @1.3791  my box cost me $31.72 CAD this month.

Petit Vour June 2019

Let’s take a closer look at what was in this month’s Petit Vour box:

Petit Vour June 2019

FiOR Minerals Organic Eyeliner (full size $18 USD)

This 100% natural vegan eyeliner is bursting with certified organic antioxidants and soothing ingredients, gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin.

Petit Vour June 2019

This eyeliner is available in six different shades, I received the shade Mystic (slate grey, matte finish). I have quite a stash of black eyeliners, and this one looks black to me. I wish that I had gotten Night Moves (royal blue), but if it is a nice liner, then I’ll definitely use it!

Pacifica Cherry Matte Mattifying Primer (full size 1oz, $13 USD)

Don’t have a makeup meltdown. This lightweight mattifying primer is a support system for your skin, delivering a blurred focus finish with oil control benefits. So you can keep it together all day (or at least look like you are).

Petit Vour June 2019

Hopefully this won’t be drying for my normal to slightly dry skin. I do like the sound of a blurred focus finish, so we shall see how it works for me. I’ll probably use it with facial sunscreens since they sometimes make me a little greasy.

Goldfaden MD Detox Hydrating Gel (sample size $10 USD, full size 1.7oz / 50ml $68 USD)

A BHA Skin Balancing Moisturizer.  Dr. Goldfaden’s daily hydrating gel helps clear skin, and minimize the appearance of future breakouts, revealing a clear and radiant looking complexion.

This treatment moisturizer provides anti-oxidant and anti-pollution nourishment with a potent combination of beta hydroxy acids, mallow extract and the Detox ComplexTM. These ingredients work to increase purity, while at the same time help to calm and soothe complexion. Skin is left appearing balanced, rejuvenated and feeling hydrated.

Petit Vour June 2019

This sounds wonderful. I’ve really liked everything that I’ve tried thus far from this brand, so I am excited to try this!

Goldfaden MD Needle-less Smoothing Face Serum (sample size $19 USD, full size 1oz / 30ml $115 USD)

Dr. Goldfaden’s smoothing serum is the ultimate non-invasive solution to reduce the appearance of fine line depth, increase skin suppleness and create a smooth, flawless finish.

Pure Hyaluronic Acid and advanced Hexapeptides make skin feel plump, appear firm and diminish the appearance of fine lines and deep creases. Nutrient-rich Seaweed Extract promotes a long-term, youthful-looking glow. With continued use, your skin will reap the benefits of looking younger, feeling smoother, and appearing more radiant.

Petit Vour June 2019

Ok, I’m mega excited to try this, I love facial serums and this one sounds amazing!

No time? No shower? No problem! Freshen up on-the-go. Each body wipe is an oversized, super-soft, pre-moistened shower sheet that instantly and gently cleanses, revitalizes, and deodorizes every inch of your skin without alcohol or harsh chemicals. Infused with antibacterial Neem and refreshing peppermint, these biodegradable sheets are convenient, easy-to-use, and discretely fragrant.

Petit Vour June 2019

This would be great for travelling or camping. I’ll probably put this in my stash for the next time I travel.

Petit Vour June 2019

This month’s box is worth $61 USD which works out to $84.12 CAD! I really think this month’s box is fantastic and I cannot wait to try everything out and let you know what I think of it all. Reviews to follow as soon as I test everything out.

Pacifica Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mascara Review

hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mascara from Pacifica Beauty that came in my January Petit Vour box. [info in italics taken from Petit Vour]

Pacifica Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral Mascara

You will fall in love with the long-lasting, nourishing, natural mineral mascara. This amazing formula is infused with coconut oil and vitamin B to hydrate each lash as it lengthens, strengthens and adds volume. Apply for a natural look by day, or layer for more volume with the super plush 100% vegan brush that provides effortless coverage.

I am very picky when it comes to my mascara because I have long, stick straight lashes, that are light in colour despite being a natural brunette so I curl my lashes before I apply mascara or else it looks like I barely have any lashes. To make it even more complicated, my eyes are quite sensitive. Add to that the fact that my eyes water easily, so any mascara that I use must be smudge-proof and water-resistant (or waterproof).

Pacifica Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral Mascara

I have seven requirements for a mascara, and I’ll comment on each requirement and score each point. So how did Pacifica’s Stellar Gaze Mascara measure up?

1. waterproof +1/2 point, as the formula is not waterproof. It is slightly water-resistant, but not 100%.

2. smudge-proof +1/2 point, I did experience some smudging, likely due to my eyes watering while out.

3. non-flaking / non-clumping +1 point, no flaking or clumping!

4. must be DARK black (not blackish, not brown black, and definitely not grey black) +1 point, this mascara is nice and dark black!

5. volumizing +1/2 point, this is more of a lengthening formula, but I got ok volume with two coats.

6. must hold a curl +1/2 point, it held a curl ok, but not amazingly well. At least it didn’t make my lashes droop!

7. non-irritating to my sensitive eyes +1 point, this has to be the most gentle eye and lash friendly mascara that I’ve ever tried! My lashes feel so soft after using this, so I’m giving this mascara a bonus +1/2 point for gentleness / lash conditioning!

Pacifica Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral Mascara

So how does the Stellar Gaze Mascara measure up? I would give this one a 5.5 out of 7.

If you don’t have watery eyes, and like a lengthening formula, then you will probably love this one. Sadly, my eyes water a bit too much for this one to work well for me. But if they ever come out with a waterproof version of this mascara, I would definitely want to try it out!

Petit Vour January 2019
