Huge Make-Up Declutter 2020

Hello, hello – welcome to / welcome back to A Brash Attitude!

I’ve been gradually sorting through my make-up collection and have started the process of decluttering products that are either mega old, or products that I just don’t reach for. I’ll link to any reviews in case you want to check them out.

Blushes and bronzers:

Tarte, Juice Beauty, Sothys*, and Too Faced. All of these, with the exception of the Juice Beauty are more than four years old. The Juice Beauty cream blush is more recent, but sadly, it has started to dry out.

Lipsticks:

ColourPop, Maison Jacynthe*, Essence, Axiology, KVD* and NudeStix – most of these are several years old, and have started to go off.

The ColourPop, Hikari and Too Faced are old and I cannot remember the last time that I used them. The Juice Beauty Foundation has started to go off, the scent has changed – it smells like paint.

Highlighters:

These are all quite old – ColourPop, Essence, Wet N Wild, and Brazen – and I never reach for them anymore.

Have you done a makeup declutter?

Shop My Stash - Bronzers for Pale Skin

Hello, hello!

I’ve been digging through my makeup stash and doing a bit of decluttering, and rediscovered my small bronzer stash.

Shop My Stash - Bronzers for Pale Skin

I’m super pale, so I have to really use a light hand when applying bronzer, but I have a few that actually work for my skintone once I get a tiny bit of not quite a tan, but less ghostly pale, haha!

Shop My Stash - Bronzers for Pale Skin

Too Faced Sweethearts Bronzer in the shades Sweet Tea (got it at Generation Beauty, Toronto 2016) – a shimmery bronzer, the lighter of the two shades works better for me. Original review is here.

Ciate Bamboo Bronzer in the shade Palm Island (Ipsy Glam bag sample) – a matte bronzer. Original review is here

Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer in the shade Park Avenue Princess (I’ve had this in my stash forever, I got it from Sephora a zillion years ago) – slightly shimmery, not quite matte bronzer, probably the first bronzer I’d ever tried! Original review is here.

the Balm Bronzer in the shade Bahama Mama (Ipsy Glam bag sample) – another matte bronzer, very similar to the one from Ciate. Original review is here.

Holy Grail or Holy Fail? Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara Review

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

Hello, hello!

I know that the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara is a Holy Grail product for a lot of people, so I thought that I would give it a second chance after my first impressions Ipsy Glam Bag unboxing in November.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

Here’s a little info from the Too Faced website:

Take home our Better Than Sex mascara and all your desires for lush, incredibly intense lashes will be fulfilled. One application of our collagen-fueled formula and touch of our specially shaped brush will leave you begging for more. One coat and lashes are full, defined and stretched to unbelievable lengths. Two coats and they’re reaching unbelievable heights of drama. Three coats and you’ll believe in magic.

  • Film-forming Polymer for smudge-proof, all day wear
  • Acacia Senegal Tree Extract to nourish, thicken and lock curl in place
  • Unique Peptides for the deepest, intense black possible
  • 1,944% more volume*
  • 100% saw longer lashes**
  • 100% saw dramatic volume**
  • 93% saw base-to-tip curl**
  • 8 out of 10 say it’s the best mascara they’ve ever used**

Using my Seven Requirements For Loving a Mascara rating system, let’s take a closer look at how this mascara performed for me. Because my lashes are long and stick straight, I always curl my lashes before applying mascara. Here’s my Holy Grail requirements:

1. waterproof

2. smudge-proof

3. non-flaking / non-clumping

4. must be DARK black (not blackish, not brown black, and definitely not grey black)

5. volumizing

6. must hold a curl

7. non-irritating to my sensitive eyes

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

I used this mascara several times over the past month, and found that it only smudged a little bit if my eyes watered when out in the cold. It is a deep dark black which I love, and did give my lashes volume (not the crazy percentage claimed though, haha). I did not experience any flaking, which was nice. BUT I found that two coats of mascara made my lashes clumpy and SO heavy, which meant that the curl did not hold up all day.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

I’m just not in love with this mascara, sorry Too Faced! I would like to try some of the other mascaras to see if any of them will work for me.

Is the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara your Holy Grail, or it is your Holy Fail?

Best of 2016 – The Makeup Edit

Hello, hello! Today I’m showing my picks for my “Best of 2016 Makeup” picks, a few are faves from last year, and most are new for this year.

Best BB/ CC Cream:

it cosmetics1

This one made my faves list again this year – the Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF50 from IT Cosmetics. I only use it in the warmer months because the shade Light is too dark for me this time of year. I want to try it in shade Fair, but I have some things to use up first.

Best Liquid Foundation / Best Powder Foundation:

My fave liquid foundation is the Nars Sheer Glow yet again this year. But I have a tie for best powder foundation – the Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Pressed Finishing Powder (that I recently panned) and the Too Faced Cocoa Powder Foundation (that I’m close to panning). I’m trying to decide whether or not to re-buy, or to try something new.

Best Concealer:

One of the concealers is a fave from last year, the Nyx HD Concealer in Porcelain, and the other one is the Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector, both of which I use daily!

Best Lipstick:

This was a tough one to pick since I have so many faves, but I’ll go with my two most worn lipsticks – both are ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in shades Dopey and Frick n Frack.

Best Highlighter:

ColourPop SuperShock Cheek - Butterfly Beach

Another ColourPop Super Shock Cheek, this time in the shade Butterfly Beach – the PERFECT rose gold highlighter.

Best Blush:

Nyx Ombre Blush

My most reached for blush is from Nyx Ombre Blush in shade Mauve Me, with an honourable mention going to the Essence Silky Touch blushes.

Best Brow Product:

Nyx Tinted Brow Mascara - Espresso

This year I have two picks that I’ve been using sometimes on their own, sometimes together – the Nyx Tinted Brow Mascara and the classic Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil.

Best Palette:

I only purchased one palette in 2016 because I own so many single shadows. I use the Tarte Tartelette Matte palette more than any other shadows in my collection!

Best Mascara:

This year I have a tie between the Essence I ❤ Extreme Volume and the Annabelle Big Show Mascaras – both in the Waterproof versions. Both give my lashes volume, are super black, hold a curl, and don’t clump or flake on me.

So there you have it, my picks for the Best of 2016 Makeup! Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Ipsy Glam Bag November 2016 Unboxing & First Impressions

Hello, hello!

This month’s Glam Bag theme was Rockstarlette, and the bag design this month is pretty cute – with constellations in the shape of makeup products, available in silver and in gold. The outer fabric is neoprene (aka scuba) with the inside lined with a metallic fabric. I especially like the star zipper pull.

First up is the Adesse New York Brightening Base Coat (description from the Ipsy page):

  • Protect and serve. Antioxidants keep nails safe from damage caused by the environment and any heavy colors or glitters applied on top.

  • White tea and bamboo extracts help give tips natural-looking shine and luster

  • Tough love. Keratin proteins and vitamin E make nails stronger.
I was happy to get this, as it is 5 Free (free of the nasties – toluene, DBP, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin and camphor) AND cruelty free.
Second up is the Elizabeth Mott Color is Bae Lip Lacquer in Moxie Mauve (description from Ipsy):
the formula dries as a satin finish, but doesn’t leave lips parched.

Despite the unfortunate name, I was initially excited about this liquid lipstick as it is a satin finish. The colour is great, but it applies streaky and when the liquid lipstick dries down, it feels tacky / sticky on my lips. This is a cruelty free brand!

Third up is the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (description from Ipsy):

Big. Bigger. Biggest. The hourglass-shaped wand grabs onto every single lash while the collagen-infused formula gives us a dramatic va-va-va volume effect.

  • Back in black. Unique peptides produce the deepest noir-worthy shade.

  • One-swipe wonder. A single coat creates both length and curl.

  • Long-distance winner. Film-forming polymers ensure smudge-proof, all-day wear.
I was happy to finally try this mascara. It is a nice deep dark mascara and does give pretty good but not amazing volume to my lashes. ANd definitely not 1944% more volume – where do they come up with these numbers? However, it does smudge on me after a few hours. I’d like to try out the waterproof version of this mascara at some point. Too Faced is cruelty free – and will supposedly remain so after being purchased by Estée Lauder.
Fourthly is the pur~lisse Blue Lotus Balancing Moisturizer (description from Ipsy):
  • The anti-inflammatory properties of the Blue Lotus date back to Ancient Greece and Homer’s Lotus Eaters (who lived off of the tranquil plants).

  • White tea and vitamin E help prevent fine lines and wrinkles

  • Absorbs and hydrates quickly, so we look dewy in an instant
I haven’t gotten around to trying this one out yet, but I’ve tried the eye cream and sheet mask from the Blue Lotus line and both agreed with my skin, so I’m looking to trying this one out in a few weeks. Another cruelty-free brand!
The fifth and final product is the Luxie Beauty Luxie Rose Gold Small Duo Fiber Brush 524T (description from Ipsy):
  • Double down. Duo fibers give us greater control over how we apply.

  • Lighten up. Synthetic white fibers on the end of the brush lay down pigments more gently than a denser brush would (which means zero risk of overdoing it).

  • Friends with everyone. Plays well with powders, creams and liquids.

I really like Luxie’s brushes AND they are vegan and cruelty free. I haven’t had a chance to play with this brush yet, but it is super soft to the touch.

All in all, I thought that this this month’s Ipsy Glam Bag was way better than last month! Were you happy with what you got?

Hello, hello!

Today I’m going to show you what is on my Sephora wishlist. Surprisingly, it is a small list of things that I need to go swatch at my local store. *All photos are taken from the Sephora Canada website*

Eyeshadow Palettes:

Anastasia Beverly Hills

Tarte

I’m torn between the Anastasia Modern Renaissance Palette and the Tartelette In Bloom Palette.

Lips:

Bite Beauty

Oh my, there are so many of the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipsticks that I need to go swatch! So far on my list are: Thistle, Taro, Sugarcane, Molasses, Chai, Verbena, Rhubarb, Sake, Fig and Pepper.

Face:

Tarte

Too Faced

Once again, I’m torn between two products, the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer, and the Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer (which was just reviewed by the lovely Stash Matters).

So there you have it, my current Sephora wishlist. Are you wishing for any of these products? What is on your current wishlist?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Disclosure: Nothing to disclose, this is a wishlist, silly.

Eye Shadow Primers – Essence and Too Faced

Hello, hello!

Today I’ll be reviewing two eye shadow primers that I have been testing out. Perfect timing to get new primers as I was nearly out of my usual one from Concrete Minerals.

The first one is the I Love Colour Intensifying Eyeshadow Base from Essence Cosmetics *Purchased at the Essence booth at Generation Beauty*

Here’s what it says on the website:

colour push. used as a primer, the eyeshadow base makes every eyeshadow even brighter, more colour-intensive and longer-lasting. the creamy texture in soft rosé can also be worn alone and won’t settle in the crease.

Essence I Love Colour Intensifing eyeshadow base

My Experience: I really like this eye shadow primer, it does make shadows brighter and longer-lasting. I haven’t experienced any creasing when wearing it. Plus Essence products are super affordable with most things costing less than $5 CAD.

The second shadow primer is Glitter Glue from Too Faced. *Generation Beauty Gift Bag Swag*

Glitter Glue is your full-coverage insurance policy against glitter fallout. Lock down glitter, shimmer, or metallic shadows and enhance their reflective quality. Tap a small amount onto bare lids to lock glitter down. Sparkle fallout is history!

TooFacedPrimer4

My Experience: This shadow primer is perfect for my loose shadow collection as I have many glittery / shimmery / metallic shades. It really does help to keep the loose shadows in place and prevents them from falling out. Shadows do keep their colour intensity with this stuff. It is pricier than that of the Essence primer at $28 CAD, but worth it if you wear lots of glittery, shimmery or metallic shadows.

Too Faced Glitter Glue

Have you tried either of these eye shadow primers? What shadow primers do you use?

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Disclosure: Post contains products that were free, and products that were purchased by me. I am under no obligation to review these things.

Blush and Bronzer – GenBeauty & Toronto Haul Edit

Hello, hello!

Today I’m going to swatch and review the blushes and bronzers that I received for free at the Generation Beauty event, or purchased while in Toronto.

First up is the gorgeous Too Faced Sweethearts Bronzer in Sweet Tea. *Generation Beauty freebie from the Too Faced booth*

Blend both swatches together for one universal shade or use each swatch individually for a custom color.

MORE TO LOVE:

  • With two perfect swatches, you can just swirl the colors together and apply, or use more of one shade for a custom glow or highlight.
  • Blend both swatches together for one universal shade or use each swatch individually for custom color.
  • Baked color formula allows the bronzer to be applied as a beautiful buildable finish.
  • Works on all skin tones.
  • Color Descriptions: Golden Beige, Brewed Tea Bronze

My Experience:

Ok first off I have to say that Too Faced has such beautiful packaging!

I was a little scared by this bronzer at first, but the shade can work for all skin tones. Lighter skin tones like mine just have to be careful not to apply too heavy handed.

I swatched the bronzer heavily just to show the difference between the two different sides of the bronzer. Aren’t they gorgeous?

Up next is the Essence Silky Touch Blush in shade 02 Babydoll. *I purchased this at the Essence Booth at the Generation Beauty event with their five products for $15 CAD promotion*

silk skin: a fresh complexion is essential for perfect style! you can set gorgeous, natural-looking highlights in soft as well as brighter shades on your cheeks with this silky-soft blush.

My Experience:

This blush really is silky soft. It applies like a dream and gives a natural looking flush to the skin.

And last but not least we have the Nyx Cosmetics Ombre Blush in Mauve Me. *I purchased this at the Nyx store after the Generation Beauty event*

Nyx Ombre Blush

Treat your cheeks to a radiant flush of color with our Ombré Blush, a new gradient blush inspired by the ombré trend. This must-have formula features two silky colors blended into one perfectly coordinated shade combo. (It’s like they were meant for each other.)

My Experience:

This blush is so pretty. It really does give my skin a radiant glow when I wear it.

I’m super happy with all three of these cheek products and have been using them pretty much non-stop since I returned home from Toronto.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Lip Products – Generation Beauty Edit

Hello, hello!

Today I’m swatching and reviewing the lip products that I got at the Generation Beauty event.

First up we have a Melted Chocolate Liquified Long Wearing Lipstick from Too Faced in Chocolate Honey. *Generation Beauty Freebie at the Too Faced booth*

Our bestselling Melted and Melted Metal Liquified Lipsticks went through the candy factory for a delectable makeover in six new cocoa-powder-infused shades. Each mouth-watering tube comfortably coats lips in bursts of intense, high-impact, saturated color, while an innovative, angled velvet tip allows for precise application. Exclusive technology inspired by the molten form of lipstick during lab production keeps lipsticks melted for the most high impact color and rich shine possible.

My Experience:

This liquid lipstick is fairly long wearing and keeps it shine, very comfortable on the lips, but does not feel like a goopy lip gloss. (In case you didn’t know, I’m not a big fan of most lip glosses). It is a nice brown toned neutral on me since I’m still pretty pale from winter. On darker skins it would probably be a gorgeous nude shade.

Too Faced Melted Chocolate

Up next we have the Prettifying Lip Oil from Essence Cosmetics. *I purchased this as part of the “pick any five items for $15 CAD” deal that they had at the Essence booth*

oil you want. enriched with jojoba oil to provide the lips with intensive moisture. the light, non-sticky texture offers a subtle-colour shine.

It is available in three different tints: 01 i care for you, honey, 02 first help, pinky and 03 SOS, my heart.

My Experience:

I did not think that I was going to like this because it looks a lot like a sticky lip gloss, but I’ve been using it non-stop all weekend! It does a good job keeping my lips moisturized. It has a faint fruity scent which fades quickly after applying. It is a very faint tint that shows on the lips, but does not show in a skin swatch.

Up next is the Longlasting Lipstick from Essence Cosmetics in shade 14 Adorable Matt!. *Generation Beauty Freebie from the Essence booth*

longlasting love… you simply have to fall in love with the longlasting lipsticks by essence. the lipsticks provide your lips with intensive color for several hours without drying them out. you’re sure to find whatever you’re looking for – from bright pink to intensive red and chilled-out berry to subtle nude shades. the essence logo on the texture and the matt, black packaging with a ring of color to match the actual color of the lipstick are true eye-catchers!

My Experience:

This is my first lipstick from Essence. I don’t find it to be drying and the colour is fairly long wearing. A fun colour for spring and summer!

Last but not least we have the Nudestix Gel Color Lip and Cheek Balm in shade Pulse (pretty plum nude). *Generation Beauty Freebie from the Nudestix booth*

What it is: An super-moisturizing lip balm with rich color and gel shine.
What it does:  Bring ultimate shine, smooth coverage, and a pop of color to lips with Gel Color Lip + Cheek Balm. It’s formulated with over 30 percent ultra-hydrating, lip-protecting plant lipids that are sourced from rapeseed, sunflower, cotton seed, and soybean—plus, vitamin E as an antioxidant. It provides vibrant color with smooth coverage, while the gel polymers impart a fresh, wet gloss without stickiness.

My Experience:

This lip and cheek balm has all the shine of a lip gloss without the dreaded goop effect that I dislike. It is super moisturizing and smooth. I’m definitely going to be wearing this one a lot this summer! It is a beautiful pinky plum toned nude shade that will work well on a wide range of skin tones from light to dark. I have not worn it on my cheeks yet though.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! ❤

Disclosure: I received some of these items from the Generation Beauty by IPSY event. I paid for my ticket to the event with my own money and am under no obligation to review any of these things. I also purchased some of these items.
