Covergirl Super Sizer by Lash Blast Waterproof Mascara Review

Hello, hello!

Today I have a review of the Super Sizer by Lash Blast Waterproof Mascara from Covergirl [info in italics taken from the Covergirl Canada website].

Covergirl Super Sizer by Lashblast Waterproof Mascara

The Super Sizer by Lash Blast Mascara gives you 400% more corner-to-corner volume for full, fanned out lashes. Our amazing Lash Styler transforms even small lashes— just twirl as you apply it to your lashes for an instantly Super Sized lash look. Opthalmologically tested, suitable for those who wear contact lenses.

I am so picky when it comes to my mascara because I have long, stick straight lashes, light in colour despite being a natural dark brunette. I need to curl my lashes before I apply mascara or else it looks like I barely have any lashes. I have sensitive eyes. And my eyes water easily, so any mascara that I use must be smudge-proof and water-resistant (or waterproof) or else I’ll be in hot mess!

The brush is super tiny, which made it easier to get into the corners, but I usually prefer a larger brush for my mascara as I find that it works better volume-wise for my lashes.

I have seven requirements for a mascara, and I’ll comment on each requirement and score each point. So how did Covergirl’s Super Sizer Waterproof Mascara measure up?

1. waterproof +1 point

2. smudge-proof +1 point, no smudging!

3. non-flaking / non-clumping +1/2 This mascara can get clumpy if you don’t clean the excess of the brush before applying.

4. must be DARK black (not blackish, not brown black, and definitely not grey black) +1 point, this mascara is super mega black (yay!)

5. volumizing +1/2,  I got some volume but not amazing volume with one coat, two coats gives better volume (but at increased clump risk), but for daily wear, I tend to stick to one coat. Definitely not a 400% increase in volume.

6. must hold a curl +3/4 point, it held a curl for me pretty well (but not awesomely well), and no droopy lashes.

7. non-irritating to my sensitive eyes +1 point

Overall, this one was good, but not great for me with 5.75 out of 7 (based on my rating scale).

And, my eyes are quite sensitive. Add to that the fact that my eyes water easily, so any mascara that I use must be smudge-proof and water-resistant (or waterproof) or else I’ll be in a huge mess!

Essence Volume Hero Waterproof Mascara Review

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing a fairly new waterproof mascara from Essence Cosmetics, makers of some of my favourite mascaras – the Volume Hero Waterproof formulation. [info in italics taken from the European Essence website as I couldn’t find the waterproof version on the Canadian site]

Essence Hero Mascara - Waterproof

The popular “volume hero” mascara for maximum lashes is getting some reinforcement: in combination with a waterproof texture, the new version creates endless lash-volume that can handle anything! The plastic volume brush absorbs a lot of bulk to reach each individual lash.

  • Waterproof mascara for endless volume
  • Plastic volume brush
  • Long-lasting, dramatic look

If you’ve been following me awhile, you will be familiar with my criteria for mascaras. But I’ll repeat them here:

I am very picky when it comes to my mascara because I have long, stick straight lashes, that are fairly light in colour despite being a natural brunette so I have to curl my lashes before I apply mascara or else it looks like I don’t have any eyelashes. AND my eyes are quite sensitive, and a lot of mascaras irritate my eyes. Add to that the fact that my eyes water easily, so my mascara must be smudge-proof and water-resistant (or waterproof).

To summarize, I have seven requirements for mascara:

1. waterproof, 2. smudge-proof, 3. non-flaking / non-clumping, 4. must be DARK black (not blackish, not brown black, and definitely not grey black), 5. volumizing, 6. must hold a curl and 7. non-irritating to my sensitive eyes.

So how does it measure up? The first time that I tried this mascara, I didn’t love it. But by the third use, my opinion started to change. It ticks all the boxes for me, and I would give it a 6.5 out of 7, with half a point taken off as it can get clumpy if you aren’t careful. I find that cleaning the brush end off before using does help to reduce the clumping risk.

This mascara is super black and adds volume to my lashes and holds a curl for my stick straight lashes. All in all, I like this one.

Have you tried this one?

Covergirl LashBlast Volume Mascara Review

Covergirl LashBlast Volume Mascara Waterproof

Hello, hello!

Covergirl has recently become cruelty free, earning their Leaping Bunny certification! This leads me to hope that more brands will start to do the same! I needed a new mascara, as I’m fairly vigilant about replacing them regularly, so I decided to try out the LashBlast Volume in the Waterproof formulation in the shade Very Black [info in italics taken from the Canadian Covergirl website]

Covergirl LashBlast Volume Mascara Waterproof

I am pretty picky when it comes to my mascara because I have long, stick straight lashes, that are fairly light in colour despite being a natural brunette so I basically have to curl my lashes before I apply mascara or else it looks like I barely have any lashes. To make it even more complicated, my eyes are quite sensitive, and lots of mascaras irritate my eyes. Add to that the fact that my eyes water easily, so any mascara that I use must be smudge-proof and water-resistant (or waterproof).

Covergirl LashBlast Volume Mascara Waterproof

I have seven requirements for a mascara:

1. waterproof

2. smudge-proof

3. non-flaking / non-clumping

4. must be DARK black (not blackish, not brown black, and definitely not grey black)

5. volumizing

6. must hold a curl

7. non-irritating to my sensitive eyes

Get a blast of bold, volumizing mascara – rain or shine! LashBlast’s patented volume-boosting hypoallergenic mascara formula and patent-pending brush are designed to max out each and every lash, leaving you with the ultimate big-lash look. In original, non-waterproof, too!

It claims to give 10X the volume, which is much more reasonable the claims than some of mascaras have for 500X the volume.

The wand has rubber needle type bristles, which I’m generally not a big fan of. I prefer the chubbier or curved bristle style wands normally.

Covergirl LashBlast Volume Mascara Waterproof

Ok. so how does it measure up? It checks the boxes in terms of being waterproof, smudgeproof, non-flaky / non-clumpy, and it a nice deep dark black, and it doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes. I do find it to be a little less awesome in terms of volume and holding a curl. My lashes have some volume and some curl. Overall I’d give this mascara a 6 out of 7, with 1/2 a point taken off for volume, and 1/2 a point for curl factor. It is a good mascara, but it isn’t a great mascara for me.

Do you have a fave Covergirl mascara?

Annabelle BigShow Waterproof Mascara

Hello, hello!

Today I’m reviewing the BigShow Waterproof Mascara from Annabelle Cosmetics, a Canadian brand!  Here’s what it says about the BigShow WP Mascara:

Dare to get the max volume effect with the new BigShow Waterproof mascara! Its volume-boosting waterproof formula, enriched with carnauba extract for a softening effect, delivers instant volume. Plus, its clump-free brush helps you avoid heavy lashes.

It also says that three coats will give 11X the volume.

Onto the review:

Annabella BigShow Waterproof Mascara

My lashes are long and stick straight. My eyes are sensitive so many mascaras tend irritate my eyes. That being said, I have seven requirements for a mascara:

1. waterproof

2. smudge-proof

3. non-flaking / non-clumping

4. must be DARK black (not blackish, not brown black, and definitely not grey black)

5. volumizing

6. must hold a curl

7. non-irritating to my sensitive eyes

Annabella BigShow Waterproof Mascara

So how does this mascara measure up to my seven requirements? I would say that this mascara is on par with my holy grail mascaras (Essence Cosmetics I ❤ Volume and Get Big Lashes Waterproof)! It meets all seven of my requirements! I just don’t think that it gives 11X the volume, but it does add a nice bit of volume to my lashes, even with just one or two coats. I never wear three coats of mascara, so maybe it really is the third coat that does it volume-wise.

I was hoping to do some swatching and photographing today, but thus far it is a dark and rainy day. Hope the sun comes out later!

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day!
